About
When you sign up with PPT you are hiring a team of trainers. James Camastra, Founder and Program Coordinator, has over 20 years of experience and a MS in exercise science. He, co-owner Antonio Sini and his Training Team will take good care of you. All Progressive Personal Trainers are full-time career trainers, no actors or models here, with advanced education and experiences. We communicate with each other through a detailed and custom data base where your workouts and notes are logged. Additionally, PPT's Training Team meet regularly to discuss new clients and changes to existing client's programs. I love training, period. I feel lucky having so many clients trust their physical well-being with my staff and me.

Hired on Thumbtack

PPT is an all-around excellent gym. The trainers could not be more helpful or knowledgeable....a great team, a great gym, and I had a great experience.

After posting on Thumbtack for a personal trainer, I received a number of replies. The one that impressed me most came from James from Progressive Personal Training because he asked me many specific questions about my medical history and workout goals. After a short trial period, I signed up for a year of private sessions. I like the fact that I have three rotating trainers: James, David and John who are clearly professionals in the field. Never do I feel they’re “winging” my workouts as I have felt with other trainers, but have a specific plan for me each time I come. They keep computerized records of each workout, and frequently refer back to them. They’re very exacting in explaining how each exercise should be done and work patiently with me until I get it right. I have to say PPT’s facilities are on the modest side; they don’t have the latest high-tech equipment. But the place is kept clean and very good, inventive use is made of their equipment. For instance, I particularly like that I’m always learning new variations of standard exercises, including squats and crunches. After about 3 months, I’m quite sure I made the right decision in going with PPT. I see a definite difference: my body is stronger and more toned, and my core feels much more solid. I highly recommend PPT!

I've worked with Progressive Personal Training for a little over 3 months, usually twice or 3 times a week. And I've worked with all 3 of the trainers there: James, David, and John. They are all very professional, easy to work with, and knowledgeable about anatomy and what parts of the body I need to work on. I'm retired and they all knew how to work with me on issues important to my health and fitness. But I've also witnessed them working with younger clients and the rapport seems to be equally good. I can definitely recommend this fitness studio without qualification, especially if you like the kind of privacy, focus, and attentiveness that's hard to find in a bigger gym. Whether you're looking for a hard core workout or only need to remain limber, balanced, and healthy, James and his crew seem like a good choice.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Let us create a customized exercise program where your goals, level of fitness and postural needs are addressed. Our personal training system uses traditional strength training exercises with a functional approach and is based on 3 principles: 1) Building Functional Strength and Endurance: With progressive functional resistance training you will increase upper body, lower body and core strength. All of this is accomplished through the use of medicine balls, physioballs, balance boards, stability pads, etc. 2) Perfect Posture and Corrective Exercise: We are always working to improve muscular, functional, static and dynamic balance. Proper form is a major focus. Clients have been able to reduce or eliminate chronic conditions such as lower back and shoulder pain. 3) Goal Setting and Progress Tracking: All workouts are logged using our unique and custom tracking system. We carefully chart your progress so you know exactly where you are in your program.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

My list of credentials is long and impressive: • California University of Pennsylvania: MS In Exercise Science, Human Performance and Injury Prevention • SUNY Cortland: BS in Exercise Science; graduated Cum Laude, was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi (an international honor society in education) and won the National Physical Education and Health Award. • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM): Health/Fitness Instructor (H/FI) • National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM): Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) • National Academy of Speed and Explosion (NASE): Certified Speed and Explosion Specialist (CSES) • IDEA: Elite Personal Fitness Trainer

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure the trainer has the availability you need first. If they can not see you when you need, it doesn't make sense to consider that trainer.
