FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My fee may seem higher than others you see on Thumbtack but I am dedicated to each student I take on, and do lots of work besides the lesson on your behalf such as buying sheet music for you and making specific guide & instrumental tracks so that you are sure of your pitch and rhythm choices when you practice and can therefore improve quickly!!! I also will design specific vocal exercises which address your particular issues.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First I give the student an extra half hour for the first lesson (at no added charge) to chat with me about their background and vocal experience. That way I can decide how best to proceed. I access what the student's learning style is..... visual, auditory, image based etc. and then I design a teaching approach which will serve that individual student best. We do some vocal warm ups and then start singing a song - preferably a song the student is already familiar with. Once I hear their voice then I can make suggestions and give instruction on how to make improvements. I can also suggest new songs for the student to work on that will help them to reinforce their new vocal technique. I give them sheet music, guide tracks and instrumental tracks to practice with. I also design vocal exercises to strengthen their voice and expand their range etc. I will also send them vocal exercise tracks to work out with!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was a Voice Major at the University of Illinois where I got my vocal foundation. Then I transferred to the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where I studied Musical Theater and all the various vocal styles that that entails. I moved to New York right after college and began my professional performance career which has included 5 Broadway shows - including the original company of "The Phantom of the Opera" where I covered/performed both the roles of Christine & Carlotta. I went on to do 20 years of performing as a Vocal Soloist with Symphony Orchestras around the world singing the best songs of Broadway. During that time I began teaching privately and also taught for 6 years at NYU Tisch ( New York University). I've worked with many of the most accomplished singers and musicians in the Broadway world singing all styles of music!
