Introduction: Though my face was totally obscured, Director Gisela Cardenas was at the theatre and knew I was on stage, simply by the sound of my voice. It has been described as a "guy's guy voice" by a NY agent, "that voice" (Kathy Cortez) and "the voice of God" (Ari Taub, Hit and Run Productions). In some ways, it is the voice of every man: the subway conductor in "The Orphans," the screen test giver in "A Toast to Ava Gardner," or the astronaut in Zhu Yi's "I am a Moon" (all recorded for NY stage productions). Yet, it is also the voice of the absolute, the commander giving instructions (Silent Hill, RushNAttack - video games), the narrator of a series of WWII videos by Hit and Run. My take on voice over copy is that it should sound as natural and as honest as conversation overheard at an adjoining table in a restaurant, and it should be as compelling. I work hard to make copy "my own." I have an in-home, 8-track recording system with stereo input and ProTools. I can generally provide as finished a voice product as a client needs at any time, day or night, in pretty much any format. I usually provide multiple demo takes, so the client gets to choose among various options. Most clients who've had me in studio are stunned at how quickly the takes are done. I have a penchant for creating letter perfect, glitch-free recordings. If the studio is booked for an hour, and we have a perfect copy in eight minutes, there are 52 minutes to explore alternative takes.
