We needed a kitchen cabinet removed and a new dishwasher installed. His work was fantastic! He came by on the evening and worked quickly. I would recommend him to anyone looking to have a similar job done. I know we will be using him again for other projects!

Jonathan just finished installing an IKEA kitchen for me. New base cabinet, wall cabinets, a built in microwave, and countertop. He had to work with difficult sloping walls (brick and terrible dry wall) and it looks fantastic. He even added a backboard to the counter when we asked. Jonathan replied to all my texts and emails quickly. He was very professional and skilled.

Walter is a true professional, very skillful and precise to detail, as well as a gentleman. I hired Walter for a smaller project of reseating an exterior back door. He met me at my home to look at the task and give me a price which was competitive to the other professionals on this site. He was able to confirm right away that we needed to reinstall the door with the proper support. He told me what materials were needed and I went to Home Depot that evening to pick them up. 10 minutes at HD and I see Walter loading a couple sleds with material for another big job. I say hello and he stops everything he's doing to help me run around the store to gather the material needed for my project. Two things should stand out to someone hiring someone for a job. 1. This guy works and he must be good to get a project this size and 2. His selfishness in taking the time to help a client gather the right stuff. He shows up on time for our appointment after first calling me 30 minutes prior to meeting and says he's on his way. He was very prepared and put down proper drop clothes to protect everything from debris and dust. I'm that annoying homeowner that likes to watch what's going on and Walter didn't mind at all. He informed me of every step along the way. We ran into a slight issue which took a little more time than we both expected but understandably that what usually happens when you're fixing someone else's mistake. At the end of a full day he had removed the pre hung door, inserted the proper headers, replaced the footers with pressure treated wood, patched the concrete meeting the footer, waterproofed the footer, reseated the door, and trimmed out the finishing with the casings I bought to match our windows and a saddle. My wife and I are very happy with the outcome and as I told Walter, we will be calling him for other projects. As a homeowner you only wish that someone will take the time and not cut corners, as if the work they were doing was on their own home. We feel that way after working with Walter. Thanks again!

If you need an IKEA hacker, G&M is for you!! Hired Greivin to retrofit IKEA cabinet systems for my quirky Manhattan apartment with uneven wall and floors. The project got complicated, with lots of troubleshooting required. The job was done as I expected. Greivin is professional, flexible and kind. Sean spray lacquered my custom kitchen cabinet doors. Not only did Sean deliver an excellent result, he was also able to turn the job around quickly. When we ran into a minor obstacle prior to installation, Sean was available same day and resolved the issue in a very fast, professional and friendly way. His shop in Orange is conveniently close to my house and I will certainly work with Sean again. I can highly recommend him for refinishing your furniture/cabinets or for custom builds.

Tom's team did an outstanding job at painting very high contemporary ceiling rooms. Patched ceiling cracks and smoothed out ceiling issues from previous non-TNS work. He did creative carpentry work to fix problems with a hall corner wall, hole in bath wall and deck board that had rot. Fixed kitchen cabinet drawer that did not work. Great communication and execution. Hard workers, that were very accommodating of my schedule and my dogs. Great experience

Bernard repaired an broken stool form Africa. He did a great job. The repair is almost unnoticeable and he took great care to match the coloring of the wood grain. It came out great. He's nice, professional and patient. I can't wait to see what he does with my old toy chest and multi colored wood animals from Oaxaca , Mexico! Thanks so much Bernard.

The pocket door of my main floor powder room had been pushed in too far. Tom Marotta explained that it happened due to the fact that the door was installed without a piece of wood to keep it from sinking in. Tom had to make a hole in the interior wall in order to reach the problem. He got the door on track and added the piece of wood necessary to keep the door from sinking in. He patched the hole with sheetrock and taped it. Tom found the perfect color of paint to match the rest of the walls. You would never know there had ever been a hole in that wall. I cannot express how happy I am with Tom Marotta. He was prompt, professional, efficient, and very polite. I highly recommend him and so grateful for Thumbtack!

Waldy did a great job on my total renovation, everything from floors to wall repair, kitchen cabinets, appliances, molding, electrical, plumbing, you name it. He maintains high standards and is very understanding, always working with a customer to make changes and achieve the desired result. Couldn't give a higher recommendation, have already and will continue to refer friends and family to him.

Luca is a gem of a human and I’m so grateful I found him. I had a very obscure idea to build bookshelves for my nursery into a non working fireplace in my apartment. He was very responsive, patient with me while I tried to describe what I wanted, and built exactly what I wanted in about a week — sending me photos of various wood color options and style of brackets to make sure it was exactly right. He even made them so they pop in and out easily in case I want to paint or need to take them out because I’m renting. The price he gave me was an amazing deal. Since then, he has fixed a latch on a vintage hutch (found the matching vintage latch online himself, purchased and installed in a few minutes) and also came by last minute to fix a leg on another vintage piece that I thought for sure would require a completely new piece. He of course was able to completely repair it in about ten minutes with a replica bolt he had and saved me so much heartache. He’s delightful to be around, kind, punctual and incredibly talented. I will continue to hire him for basically anything I need done in the future. Highly recommend!

Glenn built a beautiful deck for our family. The wood is Ipe and Cedar, difficult material to work with, but Glenn knew what he was doing. A real pro. He takes his work very seriously and always asked us for our opinions before doing something. He was totally great about making sure we were happy with the final results and made any change we requested. He also showed up every day and early to get a head start on the work and finished on time. I would hire Glenn again to do any other carpentry or home project I have.

Our wood pergola had collasped on one side in our back yard. We had a plan a large outdoor party for around 100 people and needed the perguola to be repaired quickly. We called Molina's Construction corp and they showed up two hours later to assess the damage. The following day they were onsite and started the repair. They finished the job in three days and it looks great. We really appreciate the responsiveness and craftmanship Molina's Construction provided and would use them again in the future.

Kiko was amazing. He assembled 24 cabinets perfectly in a single day. He very graciously accepted several date changes due to construction delays. He arrived early, was extremely pleasant and worked quickly and quietly to get the job done. We cannot recommend him more highly. A job that would have taken my husband and I two weeks of after work evenings (&too many arguments!) to complete was done in a day. Phenomenal. Worth EVERY penny. Hire him!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
