Awesome! Joe switched the panel box in my house to increase the capacity of breakers, (the older house was maxed out with the setup in which I bought it). He then installed a dishwasher in a location where a cabinet existed, installing the electric and plumbing. He noticed that the drain from the kitchen to the basement was not vented, so he installed vents and reconfigured the plumbing. Also, the lateral pipe under the basement was blocked so he contacted a plumber which he knows and he was able to come snake out the pipes to make sure that everything would flow properly. Lastly, he suggested that washing machine in the basement which ties into the same drain line as the kitchen sink and dishwasher most likely was contributing to the blockage. While he was out getting parts, he included lint traps for the washer. The quote he gave me from the start never changed. No hidden fees. A great experience. Will use him again in the future.

I have nothing but good things to say about Rod and his office girl Lisa. Both were honest, helpful, very knowlegeable, and courteous. I have a 13 year old Kenmore washing machine with an agitator, and these older, top loader agitator machines are the only type Rod works on. My problem was a simple a lid switch and he fixed without a part and was in and out in 15 minutes, charging me only for the basic house call, $69.95 plus tax.

Steven did a phenomenal job power washing my house that hadn't been washed in at least the 8 years we've been here and also cleaned our gutters for a nominal fee. He did a really nice job cleaning up after such a messy job as well. I will definitely hire Steven in the future for any handyman needs!

I had a problem with the cooler/fan of my laptop, Williams ordered the spare part and came to my place to replace it. It turned out that a slightly different part had been delivered (probably due to the fact that I purchased the laptop in Europe so the same model can be slightly different). However when he put the laptop together again it didn't work as a part had been broken during dismantling. He took my laptop to fix the broken part and gave me a spare one in between. He couldn't fix my old laptop though, so he ordered a brand new one (same model). He gave me the new laptop free of charge and I didn't have to pay for the service as well. He helped me set up the new computer's software and changed the keypad so I can use my old European on the new machine. He was honest and helpful throughout the 2 week process and I really appreciate his dedication. I would definitely hire him again and can only recommend his services.

Mark was extremely helpful and conscientious. I was very impressed with him coming early to repair my Frigidaire front loader washing machine. Unfortunately, I wasn't home. He offered to wait until I got home. After carefully looking at all options, he determined that my machine needed a part for the locking device. He also picked up the part and fixed my washing machine that day. Mark waited for the spinning cycle to finish tools sure that indeed the machine was fixed! It was very nice to find someone who wanted to make sure that he did a good job!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
