Professional, flexible, creative, artistic, punctual, and gentle. That's how we describe our wonderful cinematographer. Three weeks before the ceremony we hired Rom to be our wedding cinematographer. The final wedding excerpt video proves that we've made the right decision. Everyone that has watched it is touched by the romantic details and smooth transitions. The background music resonates with the video. Highly recommend!

Marcelo was very professional! He definetly knew what he was doing and helped me with details such as deciding on the background for the photos and figuring out my best angle and posture. He took many photos and sent me all of them so I could chose my favorite for my Linkedin profile! I absolutely loved the result! Would definetly recommend him!

I highly recommend Karen Withem and her company Canyon Diamond Media for projects – including message development, audience identification, content creation and branded entertainment. Karen and her company produced a series of training videos for my firm Talbot & Associates and the City of Raleigh. She provided building maintenance staff with convenient learning solutions, accessible via phones and other devices, while enhancing safety practices which are crucial to the operation of complex equipment. Her extensive media experience includes media training, script development; recording and production (such as location scouting and lighting), still photography, editing and all other facets of production. As a bonus she has done on-camera and voiceover work, so she skillfully directs sometimes-nervous clients and spokespeople or actors as part of a seamless process of video content creation. Karen also has a network of colleagues with specialized skills in all aspects of media production for larger and more complex projects, including an Emmy-award winning cinematographer and operators of drones, jibs and the gamut. I would not hesitate to hire her again for future projects! Michael Talbot Talbot & Associates

I've worked with a lot of photographers and cinematographers for our film production company. The thing Helen brings to any production is that she's just cut above the rest in terms of intelligence. That means a lot on a film set - intelligent people who can articulate clearly and be articulated to clearly is a huge benefit. The end result is that she has a great eye for composition, and is a pleasure to have on any production. The smarter the better and she's a smart cookie, you get what you pay for.!

''Although it's very easy for people to just click 5 stars, and even everything on the list of "things I like," I can't stress enough how fervently I feel about those choices. Branden is a special person, in that he truly does have an extremely advanced work ethic. Branden cares most about the work and getting it right, which, as a producer, is everything. I never have to worry that he will cut corners or phone it in. If anything I have to talk him into moving on sometimes because he needs to feel it's right. He takes the work very seriously, but he's also fun to have on a set. He never complains, and I've seen him carry a giant rig for hours without a peep. He prepares thoroughly, is always on time or early, communicates in a timely way, and is a steal frankly (given the incredible quality, which I'll outline separately). Branden's work stands apart from his professionalism. Yes, it's nice to work with someone who is so competent and reliable, but his work is also phenomenal. Again, Branden cares about the work he does and sees everything as a reflection of himself. Because this work is his passion he spends every moment that he's not on a job researching, learning, and finding ways to make the work even better. Branden is a quiet guy, like many people behind the camera, but his ability to tell a story through his work is remarkable. Many of my clients are very moved by his work every time they watch or show it. It compels the viewer to consider the subject matter more deeply because he sheds light on it in ways that make people see it from a different and at times very unique perspective. He just has such great insight and a refined pair of eyes. He can make the most banal events (weddings, conferences, etc.) look thrilling; he knows exactly what shots to get to make that happen, and is diligent about getting them. I met Branden five years ago, and have not worked with another DP/cinematographer since.

    About

Jason Thomas is a cinematographer and photographer who is based in NYC and with over 25 years of experience. His expertise ranges from serving as director of photography for drama documentary films, media cameraman, wedding event and fashion videographer/photographer. When asked to comment on his work, Jason says, “I try to capture a moment of visceral truth in people. I believe it's the purest form of photography. All that exists between myself and the sitter is the lens, the light and the location. Inexperienced people (at being photographed) are often the best subjects. Photography should go beyond appearance, beyond lighting and composition, to a language without words, to personality, to empathy, to philosophy, and to whatever it is you are trying to say.”

    About

Raised in South Brunswick, New Jersey, Isaiah McNeill has made it his goal to simply inspire those who come in contact with him and his work. If it's on a Sunday morning at a church, playing the drums before listening to his father give a sermon, or whether it be through the music he creates with his band or the films that he shoots, Isaiah evidently makes it clear that through inspiration, one can change the world. Traversing the balancing act of pursuing his education, musicians and film career, he is a recent graduate of Rutgers University, just signed his first recording contract with well-known independent record label, Radikal Records, and has produced numerous award-winning short films and documentaries. In under three years, he has managed to create a following as one-half of the music group I.O.U., an acronym for Inside Our Universe, that has landed him on stages and music festivals with countless acts such as Big Sean and Far East Movement, Mac Miller and Bon Jovi. After releasing, their debut album entitled 'The Soul & The Intellect', I.O.U. is now piecing together their nationwide promotional tour. As with film, Isaiah has teamed up with ROAGFilms as their director of photography and composer. Many of the films he has been the cinematographer or the composer of have gone on to be premiered at numerous film festivals in New Jersey, Los Angeles as well as selected to be screened at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival in France.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
