My colleague and I wanted editing help with a journal manuscript in need of substantial revisions. We were also within a month of a deadline. As educators ourselves, we selected Dr. Deb based on her education and extensive experience. We were not disappointed. She possesses a keen understanding of the editorial protocols and politics of journal publishing. She knew exactly how to reorganize and focus our writing; she knew how to research quickly and efficiently; she knew how to package up our manuscript for journal review. Dr. Deb completed all of her work well within our tight deadline. We appreciated her prompt responses to our frequent emails. We highly recommend Dr. Deb for anyone looking for serious, academic editorial services designed to help ensure professional success.

I hired Simon to do 5 illustrations for a young adult readers book. With limited information to go on and a very tight schedule over the holidays - he knocked it out of the park. Simon brings an unusual balance of energy, creativity and an efficient professionalism. I highly recommend him and RevelRouser.

Well I was not the direct customer, I located Studio Q for a friend who did use their services. Michael responded quickly to the few messages we exchanged and from my understanding was fantastic to work with in person. I saw the finished photos and they are exceptional, the book is beyond words! Such a great experience and I wasn't even the customer!!!

Tony is my new best friend!!! He designed the logo for two of my events. He also designed my website www.educareunlimited.com. He will forever be my graphic designer. He got many of the jobs done in a timely manner. He is truly a professional, and great conversationalist. His work is just impeccable! So much so, he's creating a logo for my new company, and artwork for my book cover. I've been referring everyone I know own to him. Yeaaaa AR Design!!!

After Jimm kidnapped my family he said I could get them back if I published a review. You know what? I don't want them back. Do yer worst! I have large life insurance policies on all of them! I have affixed the picture he had to prove he had my wife and child. Never liked either of them. Despite this, I still like Jimm's stuff and would get more of it despite his tactics.

Nancy Montagna was the inspirational speaker at a women's brunch that I attended. Her topic of dealing with bipolar disorder from her own history and experience was a testimony of hope and assurance that it can be overcome. Her message was encouraging, and her book, "What's Behind the Smile", is available to tell the rest of the story.

He is organized, efficient, and professional and always turns things around quickly. I cannot recommend him enough.

Holly was an excellent editor and my book has performed well. She met all of her agreed upon deadlines. The reception on the book has been incredible. I achieved 'hot new trending' on amazon and had a #1 release across two categories. With over 3,000 copies sold, I have received positive feedback about how well the book was written and edited. Nickollette was superior in everything she did. She booked me on average 5 appointments a day and was so professional and upbeat on the phone. I love how she provided end of day reports and posted all my files on a drive for easy access. Her research skills are on point and her writing is flawless. A Must have VA for any business.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

        • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
        • Strong writing skills.
        • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
        • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
        • Expertise in your target area.
        • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

        • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
        • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
