Thompson Renovation
Just looking out for my fellow man. Avoid Thompson Renovation at all cost if you want quality work and someone to stand by their work. I spoke with Tom and he gave me some assurance that two small bathrooms could be completed in a couple days. The upstairs bathroom need a simple shower surround, toilet set, a vanity top, and flooring laid down. The downstairs bathroom needed some flooring repair, flange, toilet set, and vanity installed. Where do I start:
* Employees are not experienced. They were touted as "installation experts." One employee said "I have never installed a shower surround. Did it come with directions." The other employee played on his phone while I hauled demolition debris out. It's very frustrating to have so called bathroom installation experts who have never installed a shower surround." I was given an excuse "he never installed that particular surround." I said "It's one of the nicer ones at Lowes. Not a lot of moving parts."
* Received a texted picture and a phone call from Thompson that stated that the shower surround is a poor design and the shower door wont close flush with the surround. I called back and said "you installed it upside down and backwards." See picture.
* $650 shower door was difficult to install because the shower surround was installed upside down and parts were stripped out. This substandard workmanship caused delays. Thompson did fix this... However, they will say over and over, you pay me for my time. Really?
* The shower faucet mixer was drilled and installed too low. The height of a shower mixer should be 48". I know that and I'm not a "professional installer."
* The downstairs bathroom is a simple toilet and small vanity. I sent Thompson a picture of the bad wood under the toilet and obvious bad flange (which caused the rotten wood).. Thompson said "I'll check that flange out."
* After Thompson completed the work, It looked OK at a glance. I paid him $2,250.00. Subsequent to that, I had a guest who sat on the toilet downstairs and it rocked. I had a contractor look at it. He said "I removed those toilet bolts with two fingers. I noticed the bad flange right away once I took the toilet off. I removed the flange and found horribly rotten wood under it." There is no physical way to tighten that toilet to the flange. See pictures. I had to pay a contractor to fix what I paid Thompson to install.
*Flooring was installed on a surface that is uneven. The tiles were physically moving when you step on them. No floor leveler was used and not one ounce of effort was expended to get the subfloor surface ready for the new flooring. If they say "we are flooring installation experts too... don't believe them."
* The faucet that was installed on the sink downstairs didn't have the plunger installed. They didn't even leave the plunger part behind for me to fix it. They also tightened the pop-up piece down to the point of breaking it. They tried to disguise it with some plumbers putty. I need to buy a new faucet and pay a contractor to install it correctly.
*The Crew Leader was completely absent the first day. He chose to golf while his employees fumbled horribly.
When I approached Thompson to ask them to "make it right." I was given a lot of excuses. He has a "you get what you pay for" attitude. I paid for professional installation services that should have taken two days. What I got was a cob job and a whole line of excuses such as "That flange was ok, (see picture). That wood was fine to set the toilet (see picture). My business is based on day labor. You got what you paid for." I can continue.... You get the idea.
