Always extremely happy with their customer service. I have used Sal's twice and have referred to friends. Thought I needed a new furnace (my furnace is pretty old) but was informed that it was just a part and that my old furnace still had some life left... Very honest!!! 5 Stars!!

This repair was for a re-installation of a kitchen sink and minor damage to the pvc pipes under sink. The price for this job was fair and the same as the final price. Yuriy Kononets from KYT Properties is completely professional, on time, and does quality work at a fair price.. I will be calling on him for future jobs.

From the first meeting with Dave Rogers to the last day he was personally on the job along with his crew members. We knew we were in good hands. We had our house painted, our back patio replaced and a pad poured in front of our shed. Everything about the work was explained to us in detail; he walked us through the entire process and helped with ideas making everything seamless. Safe Guard Renovations took the time to ensure the drainage and other pertinent facets of the patio installation were taken into account before laying the concrete, which is critical. Part of this line of work is how the contractor treats the customer, Dave and his crew, Shane and Jamie did not forget that. They made this a great experience, with high quality craftsmanship in the end product. We cannot be happier with the service, advice, timeliness, and overall work completed to give us a better outdoor living space! Thank you Safe Guard Renovation, thank you Dave, Shane and Jamie! We would recommend Safe Guard Renovation for any work in the future.

Eric was honestly the best thing that could've happened to our family and house. I am 7 months pregnant with a 15 month old and two dogs and Eric saved the day. He was responsive, professional, nice, and did the job all by himself. Eric got our new furnace and AC unit installed in one day... all by himself. He was impressive to say the least. He came to do an estimate Sunday and installed today and our house is already 6 degrees cooler!! I honestly cannot recommend him any higher. Thanks for everything, Eric! Go Shoreman ;)

Bob was on time, super friendly, very knowledgeable, and extremely patient with all my questions! I would hire him again in a heartbeat. He was more than willing to stop at Home Depot to pick up items needed for our gas dryer installation, and he made sure to explain the hookup when it was finished. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!

Daniels installed a new air conditioner in my home. The installer was polite and very professional throughout the entire process. After the installation was complete, he left my home clean - that means a lot to me as a homeowner! The office manager even called a week later to make sure that everything went well! I would recommend Daniels to everyone!

Great looking, professional installation of a pioneer 3 ton, 3 indoor unit mini split system in an old 1915 house. Price seemed reasonable. I had attempted to self install, but hired Air Serv of mentor after kinking a refrigerant line and giving up. I would rehire them again.

My first time using Viktor, he came and checked out the furnace at my rental the day I called him and with it giving off high carbon monoxide I decided to get a new furnace. Viktor quoted me a great fair price and did the job within two days. Took the old furnace away and cleaned up all mess and debri. Furnace install looks awesome and is working great !! Will definatley use him again.

We were unsure what to put in our home. My wife was been looking at Lowes and Home Depot, but there prices seemed to high for installation. We also just had Empire com out and they seemed a little High. Kdev came out at our request in the am. They recommended an Vinyl for our kitchen and Bathrooms. We went with the Barnwood Luxury Vinyl because it can be mopped wet. Came out very Beautiful. It was also half the price of Empire.. We are very satisfied. Some Friends and family have come over and have complimented us on our decision because Rustic seems to be in and the floor seems like it will last for a long time.. There is a manufacture warranty for years ahead.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to have your furnace serviced?

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

      • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
      • The temperature cannot be regulated.
      • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
      • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
      • The thermostat isn’t working.
      • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

      • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
        • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
      • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
      • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
      • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

      • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
      • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
      • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
      • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
      • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
      • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
      • Cleaning and oiling the blower
      • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
      • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
      • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
