THE STORY DiskTopia promotes itself as a data recovery service.. I entrusted them with a corrupted master DVD for analysis and a repair quote. If you refuse their services, at the price they quote, you may never see your property again. They have received an “F” rating from the Cleveland, OH BBB. Beware and be warned. In December 2012, the BBB contacted this firm concerning statements on its Web site including "We guarantee our price and our data recovery service," and "93% data recovery success rate." The BBB Code of Advertising states that when representations are made in advertising concerning warranties or guarantees, details of the guarantee should be made clearly and prominently along with any material limitations. The BBB also requested substantiation from the company concerning its data recovery success rate claim. The BBB did not receive a response from the company. “ This is a chronology of my experience with “Adam Smith” at DiskTopia, 1054 Belwood Rd., Cleveland, OH 44143. The US Post Office (USPS) identifies a second, possible, Ohio address for DiskTopia; 5510 Wildwood Pkwy, Suite A, Willoughby, OH 44094. This address does not appear on the DiskTopia WEB site. These 2 Ohio addresses appear to be residential. So, how does DiskTopia maintain, “professional class 100 clean rooms” as stated on WEB site in someone’s home? August 22, 2014: I mail, by USPS, a DVD to DiskTopia for review and a quote to salvage the contents of the disc. I pay $6.95 to mail the disc. 11 days later DiskTopia will want $20.00 to ship the same disc back to me. The return of my property, however, does not take place. August 25, 2014/3:03pm: USPS Tracking confirms that DiskTopia received my DVD. I ask that DiskTopia return my property after they quote $375.00 for the repair. DiskTopia requires $20.00 to return my DVD by United Parcel Servic. Confirmed by email records. September 2, 2014 I mail, by USPS, to DiskTopia, a $20.00 check for shipping. Confirmed by USPS Tracking. September 5, 2014/12:54pm DiskTopia receives my check for the return of my property. Confirmed by USPS Tracking. September 16, 2014/11:06am 11 days after DiskTopia receives my $20.00 check, DiskTopia emails me this message; “It’s going out tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.” Confirmed by email records. That is the last I ever hear from DiskTopia. All calls from my phone number are routed to an automated service that asks me to leave a message for a return call. No return call…ever. Confirmed by call records. September 17, 2014: DiscTopia cashes the $20.00 check received from me on September 5, 2014 at 12:54pm. Confirmed by USPS Tracking and my bank statement. October 13, 2014: I submit this complaint to DiskTopia for comment before I publish it on the Internet. Confirmed by email records. I have not received an email, a phone call or my irreplaceable property

Was hoping to use this company long term (own a small IT company) and had the exact same experience as Dan R. They said it would be free, I paid them $250 dollars to get started, they couldn't recover anything, and still charged me... I'm beginning to this this company is hog wash.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

If you are experiencing data loss the most important thing to keep in mind is that you really only have one shot to recovery the data. Make sure you do not attempt to recover it on your own by running recovery programs or by opening the drive. Take your drive to a professional such as DiskTopia to have it looked at.
