Do not go to local agents trying to save money you will get a 20 year old handling your furniture damaging your home. Not packing your china/glass/stemware properly and carelessly. I have been doing this for 365 days a year for the least 5 years that is how I know how the moving industry works. You get what you pay for and I am easy to negotiate with, truly just want to help. Building my brand and showing my skill will come with due time. Saving somebody hundreds of dollars on a move when time were a little rough. I want to preface this review by stating I don't give bad reviews for small businesses as a personal philosophy unless my experience was particularly egregious.
This experience met that standard. 1. Pricing/cost lacked transparency: I agreed to pay $500 for a 2 man crew to move a 3 bedroom home (for my sister). This was after he insisted that he could do it all on his own and attempted to bring his "wife and kids"(I told him I wasn't comfortable with that arrangement). The 2nd guy never came. My nephews were helping him move furniture. You'll notice his posted pricing says $85/hr. The math didn't add up but this was a same day move so I went with it. 2) shady practices: When it was clear that I was upset about the lack of a second person, he attempted to extort more money from me saying the move was bigger than I originally stated and wanted to weigh the truck. Mind you, we made no agreements on pricing adjustments based on weight. This was simply ludicrous and desperate. Later he called (3hrs into the job which started at 1230pm) and said he only needed another 45mins and would be taking the truck to the final destination and unloading but before he did so he wanted all the money upfront. He said he didn't believe I would pay him despite the fact that I gave no indication that I wouldn't. So he basically threatened to take my sister's belongings hostage (in a uhaul truck he rented and needed to return no less). Suffice it to say, he didn't think that threat through. I paid him the full 500, like I said I would and with no resistance. However, he turned a moving day which typically aren't the best days anyway into a nightmare for my sister and her family. They didn't deserve that. And neither does any prospective customer who reads this. I won't tell you not to hire this kid, but if you want reliability, professionalism, efficiency and transparency, and more than a 1 man band. you may want to keep looking.
