Susie is a fantastic healer and teacher. Susie has done Reiki on me to help heal and eliminate pain and issues in my life. Her work has helped me continue my day to day life. I've had past life regressions with Susie which identified relationships and issues that I've carried from one life to the next. Susie's work with me has enabled me to release many emotional blocks. In addition, I've taken Reiki and crystalogy classes from Susie. I've found her to be a knowledgeable dedicated teacher who is very caring of her students and their learning process. I highly recommend Susie for any service she offers. I'll definitely continue utilizing her vast knowledge and services!

I have been working with Dan almost every week for the past 5 years and can (and have) recommend him without hesitation. I say “working with” because I view Dan as a partner in an ongoing process to maintain a healthy lifestyle. While Dan is very capable of “fixing” a trouble spot here and there, his provides a very real benefit when you work with him over time to maintain good health. After a few sessions, Dan becomes familiar with your muscle structure and the areas that need maintenance or direct focus. This knowledge allows him to zero in on the areas that need attention and make the most of the session. I also recommend Dan because quite frankly – he is a good person. Dan is an empathetic soul, and accents his great massage technique with an authentic compassion for his clients.

Anne Marie is a wonderfully caring and insightful person. She is very compassionate and easy to talk to. After getting to know her, I began to view her as a trusted grandmother - both wise and kind. She may not describe herself as a Shaman exactly, but to me her work follows that tradition more or less. She is an inspired healer - gentle and confident with what she does. She uses crystals and other metaphysical tools in her practice, and her faith in that ancient and powerful method is inspiring. She has a close connection with each of her tools. I would recommend her to anyone who is interested in the spiritual/metaphysical/mystical side of health and healing.

I have been going to The Reiki Room and seeing Tamara for over a year now. I previously had done reiki and it helped me to sleep well. This experience is far above just good sleep! My previous experience was with a more junior practitioner. Tamara is a reiki master and has a great knowledge of the practice which makes her able to go even further in her work. She is patient and kind. She is very down-to-earth. She is willing to sit and talk through any issues and explain her reiki work. And yes, this is an alternative and holistic practice, but she is not an eccentric, hippie dippie person and neither is the atmosphere. There is no magic, evil or non-Christian activity. She is a Christian and very positive. The experience is very calming and soothing. And you will leave calm and balanced yet invigorated -- all at the same ! For those that do not know - reiki is a practice that balances our energies so that everything "flows" better. You have probably heard that everything is made up of energy and the idea that we all have chakras or energy centers. She helps to balance that energy flow through those energy centers so that they all work well together. When you are in balance, you will notice that you will not only sleep better but you will find a bit of extra energy. You will be happier and able to find joy easier. I highly recommend her and her work. You will not be disappointed. She is like a therapist and a healer -- all wrapped in one. And try the Reiki Tea! It is incredible and keeps the feeling going between sessions!

Grace and I worked together on a personal issue in finding ways to overcome any blockage or hurdle that was holding me back from achieving my goals. She offered unique insight and inspiration through understanding and motivation. We met once a week to discuss and implement an action plan that ultimately enabled me to succeed – all the while, she maintained contact with me showing genuine interest in my thoughts and actions. Graces charisma, background, insight, and talents work together as a seamless force able to help anyone who is willing to make changes in their life and embrace the journey in finding their true potential. She was a great help to me on my personal journey forward and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to have her work her “special magic” on me.

I am a novice when it comes to working out and have a pretty sedentary lifestyle (I am also intimidated by bigger gym settings). Tomek is very knowledgeable and explains all processes and training very well. While at the gym and working with Tomek I definitely get the impression he is interested and engaged in helping me improve on my health. As for the facilities - the Correct Fitness gym is not overwhelming or intimidating at all. Excellent personal trainer and overall experience so far.

The doctor explained things to me instead of just adjusting me and kicking me out the door. I really appreciated that, I felt like my health really meant something to him/his staff. I didnt have to wait long at all to get in the room with Dr.Donay, and his staff was very friendly!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

    • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
    • Nutritional medicine
    • Botanical medicine
    • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
    • Hygiene
    • Counseling
    • Minor surgery
    • Homeopathy
    • Acupuncture
    • Intravenous and injection therapy
    • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

    Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

    • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
      • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
    • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
      • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
      • Do I need a referral?
      • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
      • What will the co-pay be?
      • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
    • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

    Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.
