At the last minute, I decided to hire a videographer for my 40th birthday party. Chris was available on that date, and I am so glad I went with him. Right from the beginning, he's been patient, respectful, humble, and very professional. It has been a great experience working with him, and I was very pleased with the quality of work he delivered. I am so glad I went with him. Chris, it's been a pleasure working with you, I love the videos. You did an amazing job. I wish you continued success in all you do, and I look forward to working with you again. Thank you.

I hired Pauly & Cool World to create a 3-4 minute branding/company video for my real estate client. He delivered an OUTSTANDING product! His team arrived early on both days of the shoot, he was responsive and accessible at all points along the way (from quote to final delivery), was collaborative and took our suggestions to heart, and yet also provided his expert advice on how to approach the project, always in a positive manner. His prices are fair and his quality is exceptional. He is a gifted videographer and a talented director. We were very fortunate to get the chance to work with him. I highly recommend Cool World Photography. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Heather Taylor is the proprietor of Studio Kin and has volunteered her time and talents as the longtime Lead Photographer/Videographer for 934 Gallery, a volunteer-operated arts space in the Milo-Grogan neighborhood in Columbus. 934 has utilized Heather's photo and video work in many aspects of our marketing, for promotion of specific exhibits, documenting artwork for archival purposes and showcasing 934 as an event venue. She is professional on site and has a great rapport with guests. Her turnaround on delivering photos is always prompt and often ahead of schedule. I would highly recommend Studio Kin for anyone seeking reliable and high quality photo or video documentation. - Abigail Hartung, Executive Director, 934 Gallery weww.934gallery.org

There are so many videographers out there that it gets overwhelming and the costs can skyrocket. We had a budget in mind and found byBloom on Thumbtack. I compared their website videos to a few others and narrowed it down to two. I asked others for their input between the works and everyone voted for byBloom. I don't have the best eye for photography and all, but our final product was just like the example works on their website in the quality of the cinematography in the final products. The music they choose synced up perfectly. Our turnaround was less than 2 months and everyone hat has seen the video has said how great it looks. On the wedding day, the team of two was there for our first look, the ceremony, and reception- they were able to work alongside the photographer and remain there but not there. Overall it was a great experience and great final product! I do wish a DVD or USB had come included with it as I am not the most tech savvy to download from the Dropbox file but I will want to get that later.

About a month before our wedding, my parents suggested that we get a videographer to capture our day. Little did I know that a flash mob was brewing to be performed during the reception by the wedding party and guests. Everyone except me (the bride) knew! Hence, we needed a videographer at the last minute to catch the flash mob on film. Curt was so flexible and we were so grateful! My parents worked with Curt to ensure that he had two cameras, one on me and one on the mob so we could see a split screen of the flash mob, which is very fun to watch! We were also grateful that he offered to stay the whole night, so he was able to capture our send off! Curt quickly turned around a video of the ceremony Mass and a 30-minute highlight video, including the flash mob. In addition, Curt made a video of just my Dad and I dancing so I could give it to my Dad for Father's Day. He also made a 5-minute highlight video and a video of just the flash mob for us so that we could share them with friends and family. We were very grateful for Curt's flexibility and his sincere desire to ensure that he captured every important moment for us. We also loved that he was not intrusive, and sometimes we wondered where he was (in a good way!). I have been to weddings where videographers are so annoying and are in everyone's faces. Curt never did that and still filmed what we wanted! For the price Curt offers, he can't be beat!

Working with Nikhil was an awesome experience for my husband and I. He and his team were the videographers for our wedding at Grand Oaks Event and Business Center in Grove City, OH. From the moment they showed up until the end of the night, they were on point, capturing so many special and funny moments. However, it was so easy to forget that they were even there. They were never in the way but somehow managed to be right where the action was. Within a week they had put our video together and the quality was amazing. The editing, their choice of what to include and the music they used was all perfect and reflected who we are and what the day meant to us. They truly captured an 8 hour day perfectly in an 8 minute video. Family and friends that were not able to attend our wedding saw the video and said that they felt as if they were there with us the day of. As the bride and groom, we felt like much of the day was a big blur but the videography helped us to reflect on our day in a way that we never would have been able to. Foundation Lab Studios are such a talented group and truly a pleasure to work with! We have and will continue to recommend Nikhil to all of our friends in need of video services!

Rich videotaped the inventory of my parents' house. He then posted it online for my family to review prior to making their selections. Everyone commented on how easy it was to see everything. Rich was prepared for all the lighting issues that came up. He was very organized and took time to cover everything. He also had the videos ready for viewing that same evening. If I ever have to do something like this again, I would make sure the audio was better (I spoke too softly) and make sure the camera angle was better for the jewelry (needed to be directly above)

Eldon Films was the absolute best to work and I can't say enough good things about him! In the beginning of our wedding planning we went back and forth on having a wedding video, with my now husband needing some convincing. I was also a little hesitant with the Thumbtack website as I had never heard of anyone using it but I hired my engagement photographer who was out of state and then Eldon Films as our videographer. Both were AMAZING. I am super thankful I came across this website and I'm so glad I went with my gut and hired Ted, I would 100% have regretted it had we not. Immediately following the wedding you want to relive the day, so knowing you will have the wedding video eventually is so worth it!! Eldon Films are professional, super easy to work with and worth every dollar you will spend and is honestly worth a whole lot more for the quality of work and the amazing memories you will have for years to come!

My wife and I hired Rory to be our wedding videographer and cannot express how amazed we are with the final product! Rory took the time to meet with us up front to really understand our vision for the video. He took notes on specific shots we wanted, important family we wanted to capture in the video, and which songs we wanted for the video. Every time we watch the video, we remind ourselves that having a wedding video done and hiring Rory to do it were some of the best decisions we made during the wedding planning. We put the video on our Facebook pages and have seen amazing feedback from our friends and family - both from those who were there and those who could not attend. We truly have a wedding video that we will enjoy and be proud to share with others for years to come!

When deciding on a videographer for my wedding, at first I was very hesitant to hire someone online, but after seeing Markus' work I was reassured that this was the person for us! Markus captioned our entire wedding day on April 25, 2015 at Rivercrest Farm in Dover, Ohio. He is very professional and friendly! He was able to capture all the little details of the day and let our personalities show in our wedding day video. Thank you so much Markus, this will be something we cherish for our entire life!

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

          • Package 1: $1,400
            • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
            • Two cameras with audio equipment.
            • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
            • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
          • Package 2: $1,800
            • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
