Paul did a fantastic job of finishing up a kitchen backsplash project that I started and did not have the skill to complete. He also assisted with some repair to my bathroom wall tile and kitchen floor tiling. I was very impressed with the results.

Brent was very quick to contact me once I submitted my information. He was professional right from the beginning and very flexible. I had ordered my carpet from Lowe's and he picked it up on his way to my house. He knew I was on a budget and offered a less expensive padding through his business than what Lowe's had. He and his helper were able to carpet four bedrooms, hallway, stairs, and living room in about 6 hours (to save cost, I had already removed the old carpet and padding). I had to work, but he sent me updates throughout the day letting me know how things were going. He's very good at communicating and making sure everything was right. I am very satisfied with the installation and it looks perfect. He even offered to help me move some furniture when he was done. I would highly recommend Brent for any carpet or flooring installation.

I needed someone to install kitchen backsplash that would look nice with my new granite countertops. Thumbtack sent me 3 professionals that they were recommending for the job. I went with Dave Peters of Diamond Contracting LLC based on many positive reviews and a Top Pro classification from Thumbtack. It turned out to be the perfect choice as Dave Peters is a perfectionist and works on your home as if it is his. He has a keen attention to detail and is excellent at suggesting ideas for the perfect materials and color matches. I love his installation of my backsplash using spacers to assure straight lines and working adeptly around the many outlets and light switches. The backsplash and grout go perfectly with my ceramic tile floor, wooden cupboards, and granite counters. He also installed some stone veneer panels to replace ugly fake wood paneling that is a 100% improvement – looks beautiful. I also needed some power washing on the roof and vinyl siding of my house where algae, mildew, mold or moss began growing in the moist shaded areas. Dave did an amazing job with this knowing the perfect cleaning additives for the power wash to kill and clean this nasty stuff. If it is quality workmanship that you are looking for, then you need to get ahold of Dave Peters at Diamond Contracting LLC to discuss your job and provide a free estimate.

I recently hired Manny from Pegasus Tile to do tile work in my bathroom. I found Manny through Thumbtack. Manny responded quickly, asked appropriate questions about the job and charged a fair and honest price. Manny was prompt and reliable and extremely neat. I have other flooring and tile work to be done and will definitely be contacting Manny to do the job!

True Blue did a great job installing our porcelain tiles in a ~20 sq ft half bath, a project just outside our DIY comfort zone. Jason was very responsive and answered all of our questions, even taking extra time on his initial visit to give his opinion on a couple other projects around the house that we're thinking about taking on at some point. The work itself needed a second day to finish up a few things, and was completed for a reasonable price. We supplied the tiles but forgot to also get grout, though Jason was kind enough to supply it for us anyway, along with some simple baseboards. We would recommend True Blue and may very well hire them again for future projects!

I had a great experience with Darrin of Xclusive Home. He was very responsive, friendly and most importantly did great work! He installed seamless gutters on the house and detached garage, a mosaic tile kitchen back splash, quarter rounding throughout the house and caulked and sealed the bath and exteriors...all within a week! Darrin is a pleasure to work with and offers competitive pricing, I highly recommend Xclusive Home!

Craig’s awesome. Hired to re-tile around our fireplace as house was built 20 years ago. He came in and explained all that needed done, including materials that needed purchased. He did a wonderful job and we ”volunteerly” paid more than what he quoted. He is truly a professional in his trade! (Also, had a name brand window company in working at the same time, he pointed out bad things they did, thank goodness)! Anyway, kudos Craig for taking your skills to the next level and beyond!!!

I met Darrell on a job site we were both subcontracting. He impressed me with his knowledge and his good work! After working with him and seeing his abilities in drywall, framing, interior/exterior painting, cabinet installation and flooring, I know this guy learned from someone who took the time to show him the right way to build things. Stand-up guy, respectful, take charge-attitude, hard-worker.

Daniel West Masonry & Construction Services has been VERY professional so far. I have tried several flooring installers and I’ve had trouble with each. They even recommended a place to look for our flooring called Floor & Decor. When we went shopping at this retailer, we were extremely impressed with the quality of the wood-look tile and engineered hardwood. You cannot get that type of quality at Lowe’s or Home Depot. Floor & Decor blows them out of the water with the thickness of their flooring. There is literally no bad option there, and they have very low prices that impressed us! I have not yet used them to lay the flooring down yet, but I have so much faith in them that I know they’ll do a wonderful job as they know what they’re talking about, and through other reviews I’ve read they do a wonderful job. This is how much confidence I have in this company. I would highly recommend using them for your next flooring project, and as a bonus they are very affordable!

Mr Favret responded to my request immediately and I was able to get a hold of him for a deck inspection and recommendation in a reasonable time. He could have up-sold installation of deck flashing on the ledger board, but recognized that siding was in place as well as wall flashing making the deck flashing redundant and unnecessary. He saved me time and money. I highly recommend him.

Nathan did a very good job on installing a new tub, tile, faucet, and built a cubby hole in tub area. He also overlayed the bathroom ceiling, finished, and painted. Very nice job. I would recommend Precision, Remodeling & Design to all my friends. Thank you, Nathan.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
