My wife and I loved working with Harry. He took his time and help walk us through the process of a first time photo shoot. We had a blast and the photos just viewing from his camera was amazing!

We had Mark's Photo and Video do a photobooth at our wedding this past May 2014. As a bride, I absolutely LOVED how easy it was to communicate and work with Mark from all the planning and preparation to the big event. Our guests truly enjoyed the fun activity of the photobooth and of course taking home the pictures! We were thrilled to have a beautiful album at the end of the night full of all the photos our friends and families had taken! Definitely recommend - wonderful experience and great value! Thank you so much for making our wedding spectacular!

From day 1 of wedding planning making sure I chose the right photographer was very high on my priority list. I searched all over until I came across Every Atom photography. Wow! So happy I found Jordan and Sarah! These two made sure that our day was perfect! They are very professional and knew exactly what to do to ensure a great photo! They went above and beyond for us and I could not be more thankful for that. They even offered to shoot video for us on the house. I was beyond excited when they said that! I cannot say enough great things about Every Atom Photography! If you want quality photos taken by professionals, I highly recommend Every Atom Photography.

I can't say enough wonderful things about the video that Tommie made for us. I am so glad that I found him. From start to finish he was so easy to work with, so professional and our video is wonderful! I have watched the highlight reel 5 times and sobbed each time. Some of the best money spent on the entire wedding!

I hired Jim and Starfire for my daughters 12th Birthday Party and I was very happy with the evening. He was there before the kids arrived, had music going all night for them and was amazing with the kids and very patient - and for anyone with a room full of 12 & 13 years olds, you know how difficult that can be sometimes! He let them use the microphone to make announcements, sing a little karaoke and sing Happy Birthday to my daughter. He even let the kids run the video camera for a little bit taping the nights festivities. Jim played all the songs my daughter had requested and let the kids put requests in throughout the party. He facilitated the entire evening perfectly and my daughter and her friends had a blast. He was very personable and professional. All our guests were very pleased and the parents had many great compliments that came from their children on the evening. I wanted a fun, relaxing evening for my daughter where she could just dance the night away with her friends and thats exactly what she got! I would defintely use Starfire again.

Aaron at Paradigm Multimedia Marketing did an excellent job taking stock style/quality photos of our Academy's new website. He was easy to work with, extremely responsive, and went above and beyond our expectations with the finished product. All of the photos were polished and edited to perfection. I would strongly recommend Paradigm Multimedia Marketing for any professional photo shoot needs - you will not find better quality or service anywhere else.

Jake did a video shoot for us for one of our clients whose product (a flashlight) required very specific camera and lighting expertise. Jake definitely knows his stuff, and even provided a test clip of his camera's low-light abilities before we even hired him (unprompted!). Because our client is located in a different state, we were not able to send anyone from our team to the shoot, so Jake was there representing our company on his own. The client loved working with Jake, saying he was "wonderful!" Jake got the footage to us in a timely manner and it was fantastic. Exactly what we needed and expected. Not only did he get the shots we asked for, he got some great B roll, and the quality was stellar. While reviewing the footage, our (normally critical) video editor said, "I LOVE this guy." Overall, a great experience. We'll definitely use DF Production Services for future shoots in the area.

I just received my short film from Flack Productions and I just keep watching it over and over again! I love it! I really like how it doesn't have music in the background and it actually has our preacher talking throughout the ceremony. Can't wait to get to watch the whole video when it comes in the mail!

Heather is truly amazing. She knows how to get on your level and make you feel incredibly comfortable. With her fun props and personality she definitely captures your light. She does a wide range of work from creative, fun shoots embracing texture and shapes to portraits and product work. Her videography is quite impressive as well. After shooting - she edited photos timely and edits photos beautifully! During our photoshoot she ensured I was taken care of and makes you feel right at home. If anyone was looking for a space to work in especially other photographers, her space is very bright and unique. Heather’s studio has so much to offer and located in a convenient area. She’s a must to work with! Thank you again for working with me Heather!

I contacted Drew with Opulent Creations for a photo shoot. He was quite prompt and thorough when responding to my inquiry. He really makes sure that you understand the value you are getting by choosing to do business with him. Prior to the shoot he will even provide some tips to make sure that your photos turn out perfectly. When it comes to shooting with him, he is absolutely the best! His level of confidence and professionalism is unparalleled and he is also very entertaining. He will keep you laughing and smiling throughout the shoot, and I think it really makes a difference. The smiles you see in his photos are truly genuine. Post shoot, is where he really won me over. He kept me up to date on the progress of my images and was prompt with their delivery. I did not have to wait weeks for my images. I was able to share them with the world within a day or two. The final product was amazing!! I could hardly believe that it was me in some of those images. I will most definitely be a repeat customer and send all of my family and friends his way.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
