"I accessed Thumbtack last week in search of a contractor that could replace the existing tile around my fireplace. My wife and I purchased some marble tiles a few weeks back to replace the existing tile with. We were struggling to find a contractor in our area that could complete the work with any level of confidence. The first few contractors we contacted were concerned about breaking the marble pieces while trying to cut them to fit the space. Thumbtack seemed like our last hope. After filling out the short questionnaire about the type of work that I was requesting, Rodney replied almost instantly. Not only did he reply, but he sent a very personalized response to me, addressing specific concerns about the job and even posing a few questions for me. Of course I replied right away and we were soon on the phone making plans for an in-home visit for an accurate quote. Rodney was very accommodating to my schedule. He offered to visit with me and my wife in the evening to give us his quote for the work. He was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and very polite. Rodney quoted us at a very competitive price - below most other quotes we had received. With a combination of his persone and his competitive price, we knew instantly that we wanted Rodney to complete this work for us. Rodney immediately made room for us in his busy schedule in order to complete the work "as soon as possible" as my original request stated. He quoted us on a Thursday night and started the work the next morning. I'm not sure that this is something that Rodney will always be able to do for his customers, but it was surely appreciated by my wife and I in this case. Rodney did a complete tear out and reinstallation project for my wife and over the course of three days. He completed the tear out and preparation on Friday, cut and placed all of the marble on the fireplace on Saturday, and finished grout and cleanup on Sunday. Rodney worked late into the day on Saturday, ensuring customer satisfaction and job completion by Sunday as originally planned. All the while, Rodney was very polite, very respectful of our time and space, and very tidy and thorough at the completion of the project. He made sure that there were no loose ends before leaving and ensured that my wife and I were happy with his work. He even offered to go above and beyond and complete further small services for us at no cost if we felt they were necessary to make the project more perfect than it already was. I would recommend Rodney to anyone in the Indy area that is looking for an efficient, knowledgeable, polite contractor that will surely get your job done the way YOU want it done. Rodney is not looking to rush through a job - he is working for his customers trust and a lasting relationship. He has certainly earned that with my wife and i. We've got several project ideas that we will be contacting Rodney about in the coming years. Thanks Rodney! "

"We needed a new fan installed in our guest bathroom and contacted Premier Resources. Chris Plevniack and his father came out to the house the next day to assess our situation. After going into the attic, they found a number of issues that needed to be addressed. Chris showed us photos he’d taken with his phone in the attic---neither of the two bathroom fans were actually discharging outside—they were spewing humidity into the attic! In addition, there was an area of mold brewing. Needless to say this became a bigger project than we’d intended but we are very happy with the results. Chris was super responsive (by email and texting, which I really appreciated). And they were able to accommodate our need to get this work done prior to a guest coming to visit. Chris and his dad were really careful not to track any dirt into the house—they put plastic and tarps on all the carpeted and hard floor areas they would be traveling. And they cleaned up so that it was hard to tell they’d even been here! Chris kept us regularly informed of the progress during the 2+ days of work. He also gave us some good advice about other areas we might need to attend to in the future. It was easy to tell that these two guys were perfectionists and did things the right way—metal ducts instead of the flexible kind (with double insulation), venting directly out of the roof instead of through the soffits, repositioning of the fans, cleaning off the mold and sealing the wood, etc. We were also impressed with the final patching job on the textured ceiling of both bathrooms—Chris’ dad did a fantastic job. We would highly recommend Premier to anyone considering any remodeling—they are pleasant, responsive, reliable and they’ll do the job right!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who wall mounts TVs?

Electricians, handymen and TV installation specialists may all provide television mounting services. The person who does the mounting should be qualified and knowledgeable about basic construction concepts as well as working with audiovisual cables. In general, no specialized certificates are required to provide television mounting services, but as always do your diligence and make smart hiring decisions.

It’s important to find an experienced professional who will ensure the TV wall mount meets building code. Most regions have fire codes that don’t permit high-voltage power cords behind walls (low-voltage wires like HDMI and video cables are generally acceptable). A basic wall mount on drywall may take approximately one to two hours, while more complex mounts on brick or stone with hidden cables can take three or more hours. If you need more electrical outlets installed near your entertainment system, you may want to hire an electrician. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to mount a TV?

Elevate your home style with television mounting services. The national average price for television mounting services ranges between $100 and $130. Factors that can affect cost are the material of the wall you want the TV mounted on, whether you want the wires hidden, and any additional entertainment system connection you desire. It probably costs more to mount a TV on brick, stone or concrete than on drywall or plaster due to the added labor required to drill holes. For example, a company may charge an additional $99 to mount a TV on a brick wall. Here are some examples of average costs for television mounting services:

  • Basic TV wall mount: $40. Does not include bracket, device connection or strip management.
  • TV wall mount: $119. Includes bracket, mounting services, strip management system (for concealing external wires), and connection of all entertainment devices.
  • TV wall mount with wires hidden inside wall: $139.
  • Installation of additional electrical outlet: $65.
  • TV wall mount over fireplace with wires hidden: $179-$249.
  • TV wall mount and up to 5 speakers wall-mounted with hidden wires: $399.

Can a TV be mounted above a fireplace?

You may be able to mount your flat screen TV above your fireplace for a more streamlined look in your living room. In fact, TV mounting professionals can hang your flat screen TV flush with a wall or from a tilting or full-motion bracket mount in any room in your home. A tilting or full-motion mount may be the best option above a fireplace so you can tilt the TV down for the best viewing angle. Whether the wall above your fireplace is brick, drywall, concrete, stone or plaster, most television mounting services can accommodate your needs. Hardier wall surfaces like concrete or brick will require more labor and expertise to mount, and will likely have a higher price range.

If you want your AV and cable wires hidden in the wall, you will also pay a higher price due to the added time and skill to properly drill the holes and run wires. Before mounting your TV above your fireplace, consult with the manufacturer about necessary distance from heat sources. If the space above your fireplace gets too warm, another location could be better for the longevity of your TV. Your television mounting services may take between one and two hours, or more depending on your home theater setup.
