From start to finish it was a fantastic experience. In just under a month, Clere Enterprise Group built and installed a 3-shelf microwave cabinet that matched the style and color of existing cabinets for me. Michael consulted with me on the best place for the cabinet considering my future renovation plans. There were a couple of delays, but they were totally understandable and caused me no issues. He more than made up for it by keeping me informed and delivering a high quality product. He even fixed a couple other hinges on existing cabinet doors. I am extremely pleased with the professional, quality craftsmanship. I highly recommend this business and will be using them again!

Bridget and Labadie Construction Company did a complete home restoration to my mother's home I inherited after she passed away. We completely tore out all the old wood work and carpet and old floors and Had Labadie Construction add all new hardwoods to our existing home and added upgraded wood trim and cabinets as well as all new internal doors, lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, hardware, carpet, exterior siding and repainted all the inside and out. Bridget paid close attention to the details and did so in a timely and conscientious manner. The crews were very neat and kept the construction area very tidy on a daily basis so we could co-exist at our home. The project got finished ahead of schedule and we sold the house within one week after all the renovations were completed. I could not be more pleased with working with her and their crews. I would highly recommend them for this type of work.

He was super flexible with our schedule and careful to keep our home as functional as possible during the renovation. He is very clean and left his work area clean each day. I felt comfortable having him in our home. Our new floors are beautiful and our tub area is perfect. He fixed several things that he noticed needed a little work. Great attention to detail. He will make sure you are satisfied. We will be working with him in the future.

I would highly recommend Reed's Remodel & Repair for your home improvement projects. They have recently completed several projects for my Mom, including renovating the kitchen - they repainted the room and installed new cabinets, backsplash, counter tops, flooring, lighting, blinds, ceiling fan and put in a new kitchen sink. In the living room, they installed new flooring, a new front door and took out the sliding glass door to the patio and replaced it with beautiful french doors. Finally, they installed new a toilet fixture in the bathroom. They performed the renovations in a highly efficient, professional manner at a very reasonable rate. Great job and I will definitely use them again and refer them to friends/family!!!

Brandan is awesome! We moved to Bartlesville in April 2015 after buying a foreclosed home built in the 50's. Brandan helped us from day one with a complete demo and rebuild from the studs, rafters and joists. It was a huge project. He replaced all our plumbing with new PEX piping, and installed new drainpipes in the entire house. He installed fresh drywall on walls and ceilings and completed the mudding, taping, and sanding. He put in new subfloors, added 2 new walls, closed off a doorway and created a walk thru from the kitchen. He helped us install all new cabinets and also built several custom cabinets that saved us money. He installed all new ducting for our new HVAC and a new whole house fan in the attic. He installed a complete new bathroom for us. The list of what he did is endless! I can't remember it all! We have purchased a second property and plan to build a rental home on it. Brandan will be totally involved in the entire project from start to finish. He also is going to help us put on a new roof on our large detached garage and build a deck off the bedroom and install french doors leading to it. Hire Brandan, you will be happy! Jeff and Karla - January 2017

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.
