FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$85/mo. for weekly half-hour lessons, or $160/mo. for weekly one-hour lessons. This includes months with five lessons, based on your regular day of the week! Additional lessons can be had at the rate of $20 per additional half-hour. If I have to drive outside of Norman to meet you, then there will be a modest fee to cover my gas and time spent driving. Payment is typically due at the beginning of the month, but I'm flexible and will work with you however I can.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I got into music largely by accident. As a bassist, I've always received many performance opportunities. Eventually, I decided to try to make a career out of it. Early in college, I tried some teaching. I LOVED IT, and decided to always teach a bit on the side, in addition to whatever else I might be doing full-time. Recently, I've realized that teaching is far more fulfilling than any of the regular day jobs I've worked, and is actually more fun than some of the playing gigs out there!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Typically, I teach weekly lessons that last 30-60 minutes. I recommend 45 minutes. I meet the student at McMichael Music in Norman, or at the student's home. We start with a simple warm-up to engage the mind and muscles. Then we get into the meat of the lesson, which typically involves ear training, left and right hand technique, whatever song/piece of music we're focusing on at the time, some music theory, and improvisation. We always pay particular attention to rhythm, posture, and the breath. As our time together comes to a close, we discuss what we'd like to work on and prepare for the next lesson.
