The job consisted of painting all of the trim, window sills, four bedrooms, living room, dinning room and kitchen and some of the ceilings and kitchen cabinets. They did an excellent job. During the estimate we walked through the entire house and discussed was needed to be done and the best way to accomplish it. Michael and his team was very professional and nice. I would hire them again for any job.

Adam and his team did a wonderful job. They completely demolished my rental property bathroom and completely redid it in a week. Very impressive. They also tiled 3 rooms (one of which was a large room) in the same week. Adam is very personable and shows up on time. He bought all the supplies for the bathroom remodel and charged me a very fair price for the remodel and tiling. I highly recommend him. Several of my friends have already asked for his name and number. Companies that keep their promises and are timely are so hard to find. Thank you Adam.

We had our living room floor installed by the guys! It turned out great. Pulled the carpet up myself to save on money and he cut me a killer deal. Undercut my fireplace and everything. I had forgot to purchase my t molding, so they even came back and installed it when I got some. Definitely recommend.

Gina and 1 assistant painted my entire house in 6 days. This includes 7 rooms, 2 bathrooms, a mud room, laundry room, hallways and closet! We used 7 different colors for this job and Gina was a trooper! They did a fantastic job on prep and end job is wonderful. Improvement could be made with regard to clean-up but otherwise I am extremely satisfied. The very best part was the price! Gina and her crew were very affordable!! I would not have been able to afford such a large endeavor otherwise. I would readily recommend Gina for your interior painting job!

I had Cody with Elite Custom Surfaces tile my living room almost a year ago and could not have been happier. So when we decided to go with new flooring in our dining room, the choice was obvious! He did an amazing job. I was very happy with the results. Makes us want to find other projects! Highly recommended by us!

iQuality custom installed a door at the top of my stairs leading to a bonus room. There was no door there previously and they had to frame in a door as the opening was 41". Joe worked with me to pick out a solid core door for the install and matched the trim, paint, and hardware perfectly. He came by to provide a custom quote within a day and began construction within 4 days. The construction process was done in the evening to fit my schedule and the construction was top notch. I love the new door and it looks like it was built with the house. If you are looking for a company to work with pick this one. iQuality lives up to the name and I will use them again in the future.

I have worked with Ted and his crew on several remodel projects both for homes I owned and my design clients' homes. The work, which included remodel of baths, closets, kitchen, master bedroom, tiling, drywall, demolition to studs and rebuild, was of high quality and timely completed. The things I appreciate most about working with Ted are: (1) he provides a detailed bid and progress/final invoices, which are thoroughly discussed and explained. No surprises and no changes that aren't agreed upon prior to work; (2) the job is always a priority and timely completed under his routine on-sight supervision; and (3) his commitment to honesty, ethical business practices and customer satisfaction. I consider Mickyler Construction a great resource for me personally and my design business!

We hired Tyler to paint our living and dining room areas. We just bought a craftsman style home, and these two rooms had very nice, extensive wood work which we did not trust ourselves to paint around. Tyler did an excellent job with the edges next to the trim which was our main concern. Very neat and clean. It looks great! Would definitely hire him again for any future painting projects.

Michael and his team did an amazing job on our project. It was a large one: install french drains, replace mulch with stone in front and back flowerbeds, extend the back flowerbeds, build a custom pergola and design and install a custom waterfall on our new pool. He and his crew were professional, meticulous in their work and answered all of our questions along the way. They were even good with our dogs! They worked hard to help us create the backyard oasis we were looking for, and it is more than a job well done.

MDM built a soundproof massage room for our salon. The project had a small timeframe to be done, Keith and his crew knocked it out. The room is very nice, soundproof, and built just how we had designed. MDM was excellent and we will be hiring them for any future projects

        About

My brother John and I took over the family business in 2002, after our mother suffered from a stroke. John has been on the job since 1999. While I basically grew up on the job site, I was never afraid to learn and ask questions about how things were done. So, I was blessed to be around highly skilled tradesmen who were more than willing to train me in their respective trades. I have a lot of respect for the people who have taught me over the years, and I try to honor them by performing my jobs with a high-quality craftsmanship, and integrity. Our company has started as a painting contracting firm, and it has since evolved into much more. We are now a painting and remodeling firm that can assist you with the design process. With not only our experience, but also we have a great network of subs, architects, and designers. We use high-quality materials, and we have a large amount of pride in our work. We want all of our projects to last and to satisfy the client's needs. We look at our responsibility a little different from most construction firms, in that we want to do what is best for the client, their project, and the environment. Our clients are often impressed with our work and our attention to detail. In fact, a few years back, we were hired to paint a house in Guthrie. This house was close to a hundred years old and had needed to be repainted ten years sooner. I mean this thing looked like a mangy dog (it was peeling so bad). We pressure washed, scraped and sanded, primed and painted the house like we always do in these cases. When we were finished, we received calls from people wanting our services, which is cool; that is what you want. The thing is, many of these people thought we had sided the house with vinyl siding; the job looked so good. But to me, the greatest part was the owner's response; he said that he was truly impressed. Because he said that he hired us to paint his house, and it felt as though we had given him a new house. That is the kind of response I hope to have on each and every job.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

        What do general contractors charge?

If you’re doing a home remodel, building a new home or embarking on a commercial building project, you’ll hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to oversee and execute construction projects. Each construction project is unique; even two duplicate homes built on lots next door to each other could have different construction costs due to factors like different excavation costs when building the foundation. Since each project is unique, many general contractors make bids on potential construction projects. These bids can then break down to a per square foot cost that encompasses the labor of all the workers needed for the job, materials, the scope of work, and any equipment needed. Materials and finishes make a major difference in your cost per square foot. For example, choosing standard kitchen tiles at $3 per square foot will result in a lower total project cost than imported marble tiles that cost $63 per square foot. Where you live will also affect how much general contractors charge, as labor and the cost to do business can cost less in many regions than in high-cost areas like New York or San Francisco. Here are some examples of average costs general contractors typically charge in various regions:

        • Home addition in San Francisco: $250-$270 per square foot.
        • New home construction in Knoxville, Tennessee: $100-$200 per square foot.
        • Kitchen remodel in Tennessee: $40-$80 per square foot, depending on finishes.
        • Bathroom remodel in Vancouver, Washington: $110-$170 per square foot.
