Our daughter takes private cello lessons at OCM. Her teacher provides carefully crafted and rigorous instruction while motivating indolent teenagers. She additionally teaches a thorough musicianship course that covers music theory, including ear training and occasionally researching composers. Both challenging and flexible, she supports our student in recitals, auditions for honor orchestras, and competitions with help securing accompanists, locating sheet music, and other coaching aspects. OCM also offers summer camp chamber music workshops that facilitates the opportunity to play with other students. Exposure to other students at different levels of achievement (i.e. from tiny tots through high school, beginners through advanced), especially at recitals, highlights how much the instructors are patient, encouraging, and effective.

    About

We have our own concert hall called the "Big Room" where our students have the chance to perform at the monthly Student Showcases. Our teachers learn all the songs each month so the students get to play with live musicians instead of prerecorded tracks.

I've worked with Dr. Blecha-Wells for four years now, and she has made me a far better celllist than I ever imagined I could be. She is a phenomenal teacher! Ms. Kerns is also a very strong instructor and fun to work with. I highly recommend Oklahoma Cello Academy to learners of all ages.

    About

I use my training in music education and my knowledge of the public school systems to create a lesson that not only aligns with the student's interests, but also with those of the school system. I am willing to help with audition prep and orchestra repertoire outside of regular lesson materials, and I can tailor lessons to compliment the students school orchestra materials.

How hard is it to learn to play the cello?

Taking cello lessons can be a rewarding experience for students young and old. The rich sound of the cello is well-loved in classical music and is found in all genres of contemporary music from modern folk to rock. As with any instrument, how hard it is to learn to play cello depends on the practice and dedication you put into it. It’s true that some people are naturally more adept at learning instruments than others, but with lessons and a daily commitment, you too can learn to play the cello.

Cello lessons can be a smart investment, especially for new players. Even professional cellists benefit greatly from ongoing training, but for those new to cello it’s especially important for forming a strong foundation for playing. From the proper posture to understanding finger positions, regular cello lessons give you a benchmark to measure your daily practice against. With a professional cello teacher guiding you, the sky’s the limit.
