FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Tuition is a flat rate paid every month. 30-minute lessons: $80/month (about $20/lesson) (most popular) 45-minute lessons: $140/month (about $30/lesson) hour lessons: are $160/month (about $40/lesson). Payments are to be made at the first lesson of each month. I also require my students (or parents of students) to buy their own books and materials.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always tailor my teaching style to each individual. Knowing the age of the student or any learning differences they may have helps me make them feel at ease and allows me to present concepts in a way that makes the most sense to them. For me, the first lesson serves as an assessment and I can quickly gauge the student’s skills and abilities without making them feel uncomfortable.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Before establishing my own studio, I worked in a local piano teacher’s studio for three years. This experience was a safe way for me to go "behind the scenes" in a piano studio and observe and tag-team with an established, effective teacher. I learned how to teach music theory and repertoire to intermediate and advanced-level students. I also prepared them for competitions and college auditions. Part of my college education included a pedagogy course. The course included observing and teaching children and teenagers, a compare and contrast of method books, a study of piano repertoire, and business aspects of running a studio. I am a member of Oklahoma Music Teacher's Association (OMTA) member through MTNA (Music Teachers’ National Association). They provide webinars, articles, and workshops so that I am always honing my skills.
