    Reverb Lessons - Portland

    (18 reviews)

I took lessons with Kyle for about a year. My goal was develop a solid foundation so that I could learn on my own without picking up any bad habits. Matt definitely helped me reach that goal and then some. I feel pretty confident that I can learn new, challenging songs on my own now. If guitar lessons weren't so expensive, I would definitely have kept going. Kyle is an awesome teacher!

    Don't Give Up Guitar Lessons

    (16 reviews)

I am a 75 y/o individual with very limited musical skills and arthritis in my left hand. Who would take on such a challenging project.....Tim Bischof. Very patient, very knowledgeable, very skilled guitarist. I was having difficulty with the classical guitar when Tim put me in touch with Hawaiian slack key tuning which has re-energized my approach to learning the guitar. I can recommend Tim enthusiastically.

Aaron Wolf, guitar lessons & music science

    (11 reviews)

I had guitar lessons with Aaron for several years, and I highly recommend him as a teacher. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and very encouraging; he motivates you to do your best and takes a more creative, interesting approach to teach music (for example, I learned a lot about musical improvisation and composition, in addition to classical and spanish guitar techniques). He is one of the best teachers I have ever had—if you take lessons with him and are reasonably motivated, he will absolutely help you succeed in your musical goals.

    Gene Greer

    (8 reviews)

I've been taking guitar lessons for about 7 years with various instructors- this was my second vocal coach. After being with Gene, I know the first one was awful. Gene is absolutely fantastic. Very knowledgeable, super patient and supportive. He's teaching me much more than just singing and I could not possibly recommend him more. Incredibly generous with his time. It's hard work, but gene makes it very rewarding. Good luck!

  • Child & Adult Guitar Lessons

    Alex Tomaino

    (8 reviews)

I offer guitar and bass lessons to all ages and all styles. Whether you're picking up your instrument for the first time, or you're a working professional, I'll help you advance as far as your ambition and talent will take you while keeping it fresh, fun, and interesting. My name is Alex Tomaino. I've been performing and teaching music for over 20 years, helping everyone from adults with years of performance experience to kids as young as 5 reach their full musical potentials. Every student is different, so every lesson is different: tailored to your interests, needs, pace, skill level, and desires. When you study with me, you focus on what you want to do, not a one-size-fits-all lesson plan. Many of my students are now playing in clubs in Portland, Madison, Florida, New York and beyond, often playing their own tunes. Thanks to lessons that included instruction in songwriting, music theory, and composition. I recently returned to Portland, my favorite city, after a couple of detours, to attend the University of Texas at Austin on a full scholarship in the master's degree program in jazz performance, and to play guitar with the critically acclaimed gypsy jazz band, Harmonious Wail in Madison, Wisconsin. While at UT Austin, I taught guitar (including songwriting and theory) at the Austin Live Music Academy (ALMA) founded by Jerry Jeff Walker, and played lead guitar for the popular rock band, Monarchs and other top Austin bands. I've played SXSW (South by Southwest) and other top venues in Austin, New York, Madison, Denver, Florida and Portland. I have taught virtually every style of music, including rock, jazz, blues, bluegrass, classical, experimental, and more. I also play bass with two local bands, and teach bass for beginning to intermediate students. Take lessons where and when you want them, at my Portland studio or your location. My rates are just $25 per lesson, and lessons are tailored to your needs, desires and skill levels. I teach guitar lessons, from beginner to pro. For bass lessons, from beginner to intermediate. There are no registration fees. There is no long-term commitment. A recording studio is available to track your progress. Call me today. Start playing right away.

  • Guitar Training

    Montavilla Guitar Studio

    (4 reviews)

Found Neil and the Montavilla Guitar Studio through a neighborhood Facebook page. He has been giving our 8 year old daughter private guitar lessons for 3 months now, with great patience and so many fun, innovative teaching techniques! His studio/teaching space is cozy and welcoming, he clearly enjoys teaching lessons, and has a natural knack for working with children (which is no small feat). We have been incredibly pleased with the caliber of teacher we've found in Neil. (If you are just beginning lessons - he also offers a complimentary "find a guitar" session where he meets you at a local guitar shop to pick an instrument that'll work well. Great way get a newbie musician excited about what's to come!)

  • Guitar Instructor

    Guitar Lessons with Dylan

I am a Portland based guitar instructor. My teaching career began in NY, where I am originally from. I have had students from ages 6-60. I specialize in classical guitar, but I have plenty of experience in teaching and performing various styles, including rock, jazz, and folk. I believe that a good technique is essential, and an understanding of music theory is essential. However, these things are only one side of the coin. In addition to teaching you what to practice, I will teach you how to practice and how it ties in to what you love.

My 12 year old has taken lessons after school individually and in a group, but didn't like the instruction, which I think was classical. He has a 3/4 size guitar he would like to learn to play, perhaps less classically and more casually?

I've had various acoustic guitars off and on over the years, no lessons just learned some chords. Haven't played regularly in many years. Seem to just play basic 3-4 chord songs. ready to learn something new. Not sure if my fingering is even right for easy chord changes. Just strum chords no real note picking, looking to get to another level. Could probably find lessons on line, but need a little more hands on instruction.
