About
Patrick Dugan is part teacher, part musical guide, part studio monk with a guitar. He teaches guitar, bass, ukulele, and voice across pop, rock, jazz, blues, funk, bluegrass, reggae, and heavy metal—because soul and awesomeness show up in many styles. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music and has been teaching and performing professionally since before 2006. His training spans music theory, recording, production, song writing, artist development, live performance, and music technology, all wrapped in a relaxed, human way of teaching that aims to keep creativity, inspiration, and motivation alive and well. Patrick’s high student retention comes from a rare mix of deep knowledge and real-world wisdom mixed with rare intuition. He welcomes students of every age and background and builds lessons around who they are and who they want to become, not who they’re “supposed” to be. Every session is tailored to the student’s unique voice, strengths, direction, and level of commitment. Many of his students have gone on to pursue successful music careers. Others just want to play with confidence. Patrick believes both are sacred. His goal isn’t perfection—it’s expression, confidence, excellence, and a lifelong relationship with music that one can be proud of. I'm a 51 YO professional and music lover who was introduced to guitar at an early age, but who put down any serious practice or study for decades. Over the last 2-3 years, I was motived to pick up the guitar again, but like we all do - I hit a wall. Patrick is able to help me fill in the knowledge and skill gaps I have, develop effective and efficient practice routines, apply music theory in an excitable way, as well as advance my playing overall. I look forward to my lessons and I find them to be exponentially helpful to my guitar playing. Patrick is accommodating, knowledgeable, professional, punctual, as well as flexible (which has helped me in be able to maintain a solid practice routine despite a very intense work schedule). He shares a HUGE amount of material and is versed in it all. His lesson material and notes are very organized and easily accessible. It is not only easy to access, but makes it fun to learn and also fun to tech to my teenage son following my lessons. I would STRONGLY encourage anyone who is even slightly on the fence abut taking lessons to reach out to Patrick for some level of instruction - it will pay-off tenfold to create a solid foundation for many decades of enjoyment!!! If I had any regrets, it would be that I didn't do it ten-or-more years ago :-) Rock On!!!

I was a little anxious about taking guitar lessons online, however, Patrick completely re-framed my view on remote guitar lessons. He’s taught me more than I’ve ever learned previously — such as tips that would of taken weeks to realize. He’s great!

Details: 18 - 25 years old • No formal training; some self-taught experience • No, cannot read music • Acoustic • Rock • Blues • Yes, the student has an instrument • 45 minutes • Remotely (phone or internet)

I've been taking lessons with Patrick for a month at this point and am very happy I chose him. I was skeptical about online lessons at first but after trying them I can't imagine a better way to learn at this point. All of the lessons are recorded so you can go over anything you did in the lesson while practicing which I find really useful. He also has a lesson folder with all the material we go over that will have notations based on questions I asked during the lesson. I really enjoy having a set lesson plan so that I am not guessing what to work on to improve, like when I was trying to learn on my own. When we start a lesson he will ask how practice went during the week and he is extremely good at helping me work out any issues I may have had. I would recommend Patrick to anyone looking to improve their guitar playing and musical knowledge.
