READING & WRITING &VOCABULARY HELP
Is your child still struggling to read and write even though he or she has worked with a reading specialist? Have you been told that your child might be dyslexic.
I was trained at the Blosser Center in Portland, Oregon to teach reading to children who are dyslexic, are suspected of being dyslexic, or are just having a hard time learning to read. I have a screening I use, so I can tell you if I can help your child.
The Orton-Gillingham method of teaching reading, writing, and spelling to children and adults who struggle to read has been around many years, and it works beautifully.
In addition to my training at the Blosser Center, I have a BA in Journalism from the University of Oregon.
I have been tutoring children from 1st grade to 12th grade in reading and writing for nine years. I have also worked with adults who want to improve their reading and writing. In addition to reading and writing, I also work with children on grammar and handwriting as time allows.
I home schooled my own dyslexic son through middle school until he was reading and writing above grade level. He is now an upper classman pursuing a STEM major at Washington State University. Furthermore, I have worked in two different public schools as an Orton-Gillingham reading specialist. Currently, I have an up-to-date background check through Evergreen School District for reading and writing tutoring services contracted through the school.
How it works - I meet with your child two to three times a week for 50 minutes per session. I tutor most of my children at the Salmon Creek Library in Salmon Creek in Vancouver, Washington. In some cases, I can come to your home if you live close to the library. I have excellent references from parents and teachers. I would love to talk to you about your child and your options. Helping children learn to read is my passion and life work.
