Dr. Judkins is an excellent teacher. Only after a few lessons with him, my son had a significant improvement in ACT reading, from 19 questions wrong to 2 questions wrong in official practice tests. We are looking forward to seeing other big improvements in his future college level lessons with Dr. Judkins.
Allan is my go-to source for any language questions. He's also been a collaborator on many editing and writing projects, and his work is impeccable. He's taught me different skills related to editing and computer music software, and I'd highly recommend him as a tutor.
I used the services of Sean Talbot for research and writing for a presentation. This involved a printed brochure as well as a script. I found his work to be polished, professional and insightful. The work was delivered on time and required a minimum amount of editing to fit the project. The presentation was successful. I look forward to working with him again. There are no photos.
Brigid tutored my oldest daughter for almost 3 years. She is now a very strong reader, well above grade average. What's more, she loves to read, it is one of her favorite pastimes. I can confidently say that Brigid's tutoring contributed greatly to this!
Heather is by far more than I could've asked for in a tutor. I look forward to working with her over the next couple of months. Dawn
I have employed Carol on several occasions to help edit a book of mine, plus to write and edit blogs and to proof read other writings of mine. I've kept returning to use her services because she is professional, very good with words, with wide experience in different fields, easy to work with - and most of all, because I can completely trust her to always deliver on time.
Alex is the most imaginative writer I have ever read. If you want something unique--turn to Alex. He wrote the "back of the book blurb" for my book and I will have him write any others I need.
Best tutor around. He is creative, resourceful, and amazingly helpful. Thanks to Tristan, I am a college grad on my way to a great job.
I'm so glad I reached out to Guide on the Side for help with my two teens! I'll admit up front that I'm a rather "picky" mom--I have high expectations and I'm careful about who I allow my kids to spend time with. Ms. Karmiller did not disappoint! All of our interactions were professional and so, so supportive. Ms. Karmiller is a compassionate, patient teacher, Her developmental and educational expertise is evident. After spending a little time with each child, she seemed to have an intuitive feel for how to best tackle each child's unique needs. She clearly has a knack for developing supportive and instructional relationships with children. Both of my children felt cared for and respected. Their time with her was "fun" and did not seem like work, even though they got a lot done. One teen was struggling with a high school AP class, and over a period of several months, Ms. Karmiller provided direct tutoring as well as instruction on specific study strategies tailored to my child's learning style. That child raised her class grade by two letter grades! It is such a joy to see her feeling more independent and confident now. I think she's even got the courage to try other AP classes in the future. My other child needed assistance during the transition between high school and college. Ms. Karmiller provided life skills training (guidance on financial budgeting and developing routines) and job search assistance (resume building, job applications, and networking/interview coaching). These are things I'd normally try to help my child with myself, but as is typical of this age, the child wanted to be independent and do these things by himself. It was a great comfort to me as a parent to know that he had another trusted, knowledgeable adult to turn to with questions. He got to feel independent, and I got the security of knowing my child was adapting well during the transition. In addition to meeting with him as scheduled, Ms. Karmiller went above and beyond, checking in with him regularly to inquire about his progress. She also updated me so I stayed "in the loop." I highly recommend Guide on the Side to other parents who want to help their children with school or emerging adult skills.
Elissa is excellent with my 14-year-old granddaughter who had become discouraged with her online high school French class. Elissa is encouraging, tells interesting stories, is very attentive, is firm and helps move along with the lessons. I see the excitement in my granddaughter, she looks forward to going to the tutoring sessions.
We were told my son was profoundly dyslexic and the news destroyed me. After looking for someone who offered LIPS tutoring on the Eastside of town, I stumbled upon Tammy at Blueberry House Tutoring. She was able to calm me down and put my mind at ease after just one visit. She didn't see the signs of dyslexia in my son and felt she could help us. We have been seeing her and her staff for just over two years now. It was the best decision I could make for my son. It's hard to say were my son would be academically without Tammy and her staff, but can honestly say he has come a long way over the past two years. We have had a couple different tutors and everyone seems to work well with my son. I would highly recommend Blueberry House Tutoring to anyone!

I'm a former journalist who loves working with children of all ages, whether eight or 58. I've been working as a tutor and teacher doing SAT and ACT test prep for national organizations like Kaplan, as well as local private schools. I'm equally proficient in SAT-level math, reading and writing, and have experience working with children with learning differences like dyslexia. My experience as a journalist also makes me an excellent writing tutor for anyone who wants to improve their expository, persuasive and/or creative writing talents. I've taught SAT-level math since 2012, with a particular fondness for geometry. I'm familiar and comfortable with everything below that level, from basic addition and multiplication to Algebra 1. Contact me to learn more about what I have to offer your prospective student and to schedule a lesson!
