Individualized test prep is provided for the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, PSAT/NMSQT, ACT, AP Exams, SSAT, HSPT, CBEST, and GRE.
Our services:
* Test preparation
There are no sure-fire gimmicks or tricks in test preparation. Successful prep requires extensive exposure to test material and committed time to skills building and practice. Furthermore, unlike nationwide companies which manufacture their own test booklets and study guides to sell you, we use only materials from the actual test makers. This means that come test day, your student is prepared for the real thing.
We offer comprehensive test prep sessions for most admissions tests, including SAT, ACT, SSAT, HSPT, CBEST, and GRE, using only official materials from the test makers. We also provide test prep for achievement tests such as the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT Subject Tests, and the AP Exams. All college admissions test prep begins with a consultation wherein our head tutor devises a program tailored to the individual student.
Test prep is provided for $125-$150/ per hour.
* Academic Coaching
In addition to test prep, we offer sessions in remedial or advanced study stills, which may either incorporate tasks assigned by the student's teacher or those specially designed by a North Avenue tutor. Whether your student suffers from ADD or another learning disability, academic coaching aims to develop meta-level academic strengths necessary for success.
All North Avenue tutoring employs a case management model of tracking, whereby specific student's needs are observed and recorded, ensuring an experience tailored to each individual.
Academic coaching is provided by appointment only for $100-$125 per hour.
* Writing coaching
Writing is not only painstaking, but intensely personal. Showing your writing to another set of eyes requires courage, yet it's a pivotal step toward improvement.
North Avenue offers writing coaching for general academic tasks, college application essays, and personal statements. All of our coaches are published writers, with ample experience in research and creative output. Feel free to bring in a draft for revision, or come with just an assignment prompt; either way, you'll receive sympathetic, constructive advice and one-on-one assistance to fit your needs.
Writing coaching is provided by appointment for $75-$100 per hour.
* Subject tutoring
Struggling with geometry? Need to pass that history exam? North Avenue offers private, individualized tutoring for most subjects, including those at an elementary, middle school, or college level. We also provide enrichment programs for reading comprehension and vocabulary building, as well as foreign language tutoring for Latin, German, French, and Spanish. All our tutors have completed undergraduate or graduate coursework in the subject they tutor.
Subject tutoring is offered for $75-$100 per hour.
