Phoenix Habitats is one of those exceptionally rare companies that excels in pretty much every aspect in our experience with them. Ian and the staff are tackling our .76 acre heavily wooded property in SW Portland that was overrun with English Ivy, Himalayan Blackberries, Holly and other invasive plant species. They've eradicated all of these and we're now in the process of restoring the property by planting native trees, bushes and groundcovers - all carefully chosen to compliment the existing plants/trees and matched with the soil, sun exposure and water needs. Every aspect of working with Ian and Phoenix Habitats has exceeded our expectations. The planning, scheduling and coordinating with us on plant material choices/preferences has been really fun and instructive. Ian is an excellent communicator, is tremendously reliable, always on time and has removed all the worry that too often occurs when working with contractors. Phoenix Habitats' commitment to green and environmentally-friendly practices is important to us too, as a small tributary that eventually flows into Tryon Creek passes through our property. It's really hard to find companies with this level of environmental awareness and such a soft approach. Phoenix Habitats is not the least expensive of the contractors for this project that we initially considered, but has proved many times is well worth the investment. We couldn't be happier with Phoenix Habitats and know that you would be too. So, just hire them!

We just finished our first phase with Ian and Abigail from Phoenix Habitats. After interviewing 4+ other firms, we were initially intrigued by their long-term, sustainable approach. They both showed up on time, clearly having researched the local native plants and landscapes where we live (Eagle, Idaho) despite not being their regular area of operations. Following introductions, Ian promptly launched a drone to map out our 5 acre property. The next day, he had a high resolution 3D map of the entire property. He is relaxed, unbelievable knowledgeable, and I enjoyed walking around the property talking about ideas which he clearly documented. The master plan is beautiful, natural, and blends in with the environment around us while including native plants around more conventional things like a volleyball court, pool, shop, etc. The plan also uses a combination of starts and trees to make a big difference quickly while extending our investment. Abigail is equally competent and professional, and ridiculously talented. We are planning to frame her sketches in our living room. The entire team at Phoenix has proven to be exceptional, organized, and creative without compromise. Based on our experience, we believed this to be an impossible combination. Can't recommend them highly enough.

We have been working with Ian from Phoenix Habitats for the past year and it's been a great experience! The work on our property (restoration work of riparian and forest habitats backing up to Johnson Creek) has been paid for through a grant with the EMCSWD and Ian has taken care of setting up that grant as well as helping us schedule and prioritize work that fits within the grant parameters. He writes his bids to the grant, and recommends parts of the plan that can be done as volunteer hours to help us with our match. As someone who is not great with details, it's been so super helpful to trust that all of that is taken care of, and to know what to focus my own work on and what's best left to the pros. He has been both very professional and also very relatable. Whenever we've had questions or ideas we've felt comfortable reaching out and he always gets right back to us with quality responses. His crews have been super pleasant and done great work both removing invasive species (especially Holly and Ivy) as well as planting new native species to take back the land. We're moving forward this year with a new phase of the project and without us even asking Ian offered to get the grant renewed for us. Looking forward to seeing it all move forward! Photos attached are Before (June 2020) and After (August 2020) the ivy removal and installation of jute netting to help with erosion while new plantings take root.

My husband and I began working with Ian and his team to replant and manage 2-acres that had been logged. Throughout the process, our goals for this site were taken into consideration. There was a high level of communication regarding choice of plant materials, planting schedule, and timing of site visits. Ian was easy to contact via email or cell phone and always replied promptly. The plant materials have been of high quality. We were so impressed with the work done on the 2-acres that we hired them to plant native shrubs and flowers in three other areas on our property. We highly recommend Phoenix Habitats.

Phoenix Habitats brings a level of passion, technical expertise, and personal involvement to projects that you won't find anywhere else. Ian and Abigail were clearly put on this earth to bring native ecosystems back to human habitats. I 150% recommend them after they helped me implement a major backyard ecological restoration project.
