Alan provided perfect entertainment to the kids at our son's birthday party. He couldn't stop talking about it for days. Alan had great tricks for the kids and was very age appropriate.

Phil did an exceptional job at our wedding. He played the steel drum at our outdoor wedding before the ceremony began. He played beautiful music of our choosing on the grand piano during our cocktail hour. Then D J'd the reception while playing a variety of live music on his keyboard and the steel drum. He played music of our choosing as well as requests from our guests. Phil knew exactly what to do and when to do it and performed with little or no direction. Our guests loved Phil and commented on how great he was. He provided and set up all his own professional quality sound and lighting equipment and even video taped his performance and the dancing. Thank you Phil for making our wedding so memorable.

Fantastic experience! Our wedding was perfect thanks to them. Kurt was on-time, professional, and set up everything perfectly. He is a great MC and DJ, knows how to set the mood, and all his equipments/lights are top notch. The entire process from start to finish was so easy. I will recommend Big Adventure Entertainment to everyone!

I started taking his piano lessons only about a month ago, but it''s been such a great joy to work with him. He constantly assesses my weaknesses and strengths, and plans my lessons accordingly. He also listens carefully to what I like and what I want to do, too. I live a bit far from his studio, but it's totally worth it. I highly recommend him!

Erika came to my grand opening party and did a great job! She handled a lot of kids very well, and was willing to stay an extra hour to accommodate the live of kiddos.

I located Andrea through the Thumbtack site for our corporate function/BBQ at the Oregon Zoo. We had about 250 guests total. She arrived on time with her whole face paint setup (painting chair, equipment, etc). She is VERY friendly, approachable, outgoing and even had her own face painted! We had dozens of children attend and Andrea was efficient without compromising the quality of her work. She provided a wide variety of designs for our guests. Everyone was very impressed. We will be contacting her for the next event. Great price. Great work!

What do you want out of your DJ? If you are after a professional who contacts you before your event enough to thoroughly understand all of your requirements, Melvin is your man. If you want someone who will show up and keep your party moving from start to finish, Melvin can handle it. If you need someone who is a master on the mic (when the time is right), Melvin will meet your needs! He kept everyone at our wedding dancing all night long (even in the summer heat!). He played all of the walking music at the perfect times and was so focused on keeping the music going, he didn't even sit down to eat during cocktail hour (he stood up to eat while keeping the music going!). We couldn't have asked for a better DJ! Thanks again Melvin.

Oh my gosh, what fun was had by all. We hired a balloon artist and two face painters but these were not just any artists. This was Peter Pan and Tinker Bell and they brought Jasmine (princess in Aladdin) along too. I also had Ariel the Mermaid at a private event a week ago and was so impressed with her performance and these folks I can't say enough. They all stayed in character, they were wonderful with the kids (about 50 of them at the firm picnic) and such a pleasure to watch. At both events they were the center of the fun for the kids. Even the older kids (25-60) got painted and enjoyed the humor of the artists. The private event was an hour the firm event was 4 hours and these artists were "on" the entire time. They were on time (even early) to set up and they were ready to go when the first children arrived. I was totally charmed and will definitely use the Dragon Theater again for children's events.

Hiring UpFront Band was the absolute BEST decision I made for our event! Though many guests didn’t dance, I received several compliments from our guests throughout the evening who really enjoyed the experience of listening to this band live. These musicians are very professional and were easy to work with. Their music was enjoyable for all ages. Take your event up a notch - hire UpFront Band! You won’t regret it!

We recently hired Trone Productions to DJ a sweet sixteen birthday party for us. From the very beginning of our interactions with Trevor, the owner of Trone Productions, we were treated with the utmost respect and professionalism. Trevor met with us to go over our plans for the party and really helped us meet every one of the birthday girl’s wishes for the party. Trevor is simply very good at what he does. His knowledge of how to prepare for and put on music and entertainment at a party is outstanding. I actually work at a venue that does many of these types of events, and I must say Trevor is easily the most flexible and prepared DJ I’ve ever worked with. As for the party itself, Trevor was outstanding. He had an excellent rapport with the guests of the party and kept the party moving. At one point, we asked him to put on a simple game of musical chairs. The simple children’s game turned into a true highlight of the party mostly because of the thought he put into it and how he presented it to the teens. His music choices were spot on and he had literally an infinite amount of songs to choose from. Simply put, I would definitely hire Trone Productions and Trevor again if I ever need to have a DJ for a party. I will be recommending him to clients that come into my venue as well. Give him a shot – you will not be disappointed!

I used to work alongside Heidi at a dance and music education studio. She teaches with knowledge, professionalism, and enthusiasm. Heidi has a real passion for music and theater, and works hard to share and express that passion with her students. Not only is she able to share her expertise in music theory and performance, but she does so in a fun, innovative way. I have seen first-hand how beloved she is by her students and their parents!

Pressure Point Band was a true highlight for our daughters wedding. So many guests complimented us on hiring a live band for the party. Even the other vendors were impressed and delighted with the music. We would do it again in a heartbeat. Just need another wedding in the family :)

We were familiar with Liams taste in music from his show on Xray.fm so it was an easy choice to pick him for our wedding dj. He was prompt with responses and helpful with suggestions, meeting with us a few times and I loved it that hes mostly vinyl. His music was ambient when needed and got everyone dancing as the night went on. Definitely going to call him for my parents anniversary partt next year!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a bounce house?

Bounce houses, inflatable castles, moon bounces, inflatable slides and jumpy castles are all large-scale inflatable houses made for interactive entertainment. Commonly intended for children, bounces houses are made of PVC or other durable materials such as nylon or vinyl that when look like a house or castle when inflated. Rental companies deliver bounce houses to birthday parties, festivals, fairs and other events. The companies have industrial-grade blowers that fill the large structures with air to make them bounceable. A common size for a bounce house might be 15 feet by 15 feet by 13 feet. Bounce houses often have a flat, inflatable bottom pad and inflatable walls so that kids can jump and bounce without being hurt, along with a netting door and windows so that kids can see out and adults can see in. Bounce houses are suitable for both indoor or outdoor events, depending on the venue. For large events, rental companies often have a staff member who stays with the structure to monitor safety and keep it properly inflated. There are also wet/dry bounce houses with slides that you can hook up to a hose on hot summer days. A bounce house can be a fantastic addition to a party with kids, keeping them both entertained and contained.

Are bounce houses safe?

Bounce houses can be safe if operators and parents take proper precautions. Before renting from a company, confirm they are a legitimate company and hold any licenses and insurance required by your state. Ask to see reports of bounce house safety inspections provided by third parties, to make sure the equipment is in good operating condition to prevent injuries. If the rental company does not provide a staff member to oversee the bounce house for the duration of the rental, make sure you are properly trained on how to oversee the equipment. The American Academy of Pediatrics offers these guidelines for parents to help keep their kids safe when using a bounce house:

  • Follow guidelines for safe installation including anchoring. Position away from fences, greenhouses, branches, etc., which would be dangerous should a child fall onto them.
  • Consider limiting use to children 6 years of age and older.
  • Have kids take off footwear, eyeglasses and jewelry before playing.
  • Take sharp objects (pens, keys) that could cause puncture injuries out of their pockets and hands before playing.
  • Don’t let kids of significantly different sizes into the bounce house at the same time. Smaller kids can get hurt by colliding with or falling under an older child.
  • Heed the height and weight regulations of the inflatable.
  • Food, drink, bottles, glasses, etc., should not be taken onto the bounce house.
  • Supervision should be maintained all the time. Supervision means watching constantly, not just being in the area.
  • Do not allow children to push other children off the inflatable. If it is a flatbed, this is especially important to avoid broken arms and legs. If the bounce house is walled, don’t let kids bounce against the walls and crash into one another — this can result in collision injuries.
  • Don’t exceed the maximum number of children at one time in the bounce house.
  • Don’t let kids climb onto the outside walls. Flips and rough play should also not be allowed.

How much does bounce a house cost to rent?

Bounce houses are a fun way to keep kids entertained during birthday parties and other events. The national average cost for renting a bounce house ranges between $160 and $200. Cost will be affected by the size, design and functions of the bounce house you rent as well as the length of the rental. A three-hour rental will likely cost less than an eight-hour rental. Many rental companies offer fun additions like popcorn machines or cotton candy makers, and provide packages with discounts on multiple items. Another item that you may want to rent with your inflatable is a generator to keep the bounce house inflated. Here are some examples of average inflatable rental costs, packages, and common add-ons that many companies provide:

  • Bounce house, 10x10x13-foot: $95.
  • Bounce house, 15x15x13.5-foot: $125.
  • Wet/dry slide, 14-foot: $150.
  • Wet/dry slide, 20-foot: $250.
  • Combo bouncer and slide, 24x10x13-foot: $140.
  • Combo bouncer and wet/dry slide, $175.
  • Folding chairs: $1.50 per chair.
  • 6-foot folding table: $8.
  • Snow cone machine: $45.
  • Popcorn machine: $55.
  • Cotton candy machine: $55.
  • 2300-watt generator: $75.
  • 3000-watt generator: $100.
  • $299.95 package: includes a 20-foot dual slide ($250), table ($8), 10 chairs ($15), and a popcorn machine ($55) — $29 savings.
  • $450 package: includes a double water slide ($350) and bounce castle ($130) — $30 savings.
