cynthia was a fantastic trainer for our 2 year old labradoodle who had come from an environment of neglect which manifested in very rowdy behavior; he was a thief of anything not nailed down, walked you rather than allowed himself to be walked and did not listen to any commands, although he knew them. after 3 weeks of being boarded and trained by cynthia he came home a completely different dog; he now heels and listens to commands and only steals things if he's bored (he is still a teenager). i highly recommend cynthia for boarding/training, she was gentle but firm w/ our Walden. it was clear she really enjoys what she does.

Rebecca is a natural with dogs my mini Aussie just loves her and is excited when we get to her place. She is very professional and her pricing reasonable. I hired her for obedience classes, and was very impressed with her knowledge and understanding of my Aussie. She is excellent at grooming! I have no worries leaving my dog with her when we go out of town as she gets lots of love and attention! I am so thankful that I was put in touch with her I think she is the best! I highly recommend Yappy to Happy.

"Sweet Dog Daze" should be their name because the owners and other employees are so personable and nice to their clients and their pets. Our dog visited them for the first time to stay the night while we were out of town. Since our pup was a rescue 4 years ago, we were very nervous to leave her somewhere because we felt our doggy would have pound flashbacks. Not the case. We were able to watch her on the doggy camera running around and enjoying herself with others dogs. When we picked her up, she seemed happy and beautifully groomed since we asked for the grooming service. I will be boarding her again in the future with this facility and recommend that everyone with a dog that needs to board their pet, so the same:)

Really love working with Nicole. You can tell she really cares about your pet and will give him what he needs even when you are not there. I was really worried about handing over my dog for a 2 week training and missed him a ton, but he was in great hands. We are still working on some things, but the walks with him are so totally different I am shocked. He is a huge puller and now, not at all. We are still working with her, but already the changes that have been made in 2 weeks have really made our lives better. Would recommend her to anyone that needs help setting a good training foundation with their dogs.

Brenda helped us with our new puppy. We used the 5 lessons to train him in the basic cues, inside and outside. She also helped us in better understanding his cues to us and how to work with him on issues we had been experiencing with a new puppy, including puppy crazies. She was always available in person and over phone/email, which was really nice. She also has very helpful lessons and personalized recommendations - much more useful and valuable than the classes we tried at Petsmart. She was very helpful and our puppy is doing great!

I have 2 very large Newfoundlands that Tami has boarded several times over the past years. I have found their home away from home when I travel. Leonidas and Leilani have a wonderful time with Tami and her dogs. She is a true dog lover that truly cares about her "guests" and that pet owners can rest easy to have a safe and reliable place to board their babies. Tami has even taken the time to work with Leo on his training while I'm away. Tami provides a crate free environment with a sofa policy that Leo and Leilani love and prefer over the crates she has availabile.

I feel I need to chime in on Kendra's innate ability with boarding animals. To say Kendra is good with pets is an understatement. Kendra goes the extra mile with each creature she comes in contact with; she has an animal rescue kit in her van just in case she comes across an animal in need! A few summers ago, I had a temporary job take me out of state for a month and couldn't take my cat with me. Frantically, I tried to think of a caregiver who would put up with my temperamental feline friend. My cat is not really a "people cat" and prefers not to be touched by anyone other than me; I was truly panicked about finding a place for her. Somehow my kitty was relaxed and at ease while purring and sitting on Kendra's lap only within a few short minutes of reaching the house (not something I have ever seen). Needless to say, all of my worries were put at ease immediately. If your loved one needs a place to stay, look no further! Kendra's compassion, openness and knowledge of dogs, cats, and other furry or feathered friends will amaze you.

Heidi has been walking my 2 year old Chocolate lab for over 6 months now. She does an amzing job! She is always keeping me updated on how she is doing throughout the day and how their walk went. I would never think about using another dog walker again. Heidi is also able to take her for the night if i am ever out of town. She loves going over there and just playing all day long.

Laura took great care of our cat while we were away from home multiple times in 2015. She has been a reliable pet sitter for us and we highly recommend her to others. I especially like her insistence that we call her no matter how late when we get home so she knows to stop visiting our pet.

Dulce comes daily to take our dog for a walk mid-day. She is very responsible, noticed when our dog was limping and texted me right away, and gives me regular updates. We are working on proper leash walking and she is open to be consistent with our training approach. I feel quite comfortable having my puppy in her care.

Jeanie has given us so much help with our golden retriever. She really understood the impact our dog's behavior had on the household and how much we needed the tools to achieve good citizenship. His behavior is more complex than we had previously encountered as pet owners. Jeanie has been extremely patient and thorough in her assessments and plans. She has been ultra flexible and has gone the extra mile to help us, even checking in when it wasn't expected. We are so glad to have her in our corner!

Kristin has been my dog walker on two separate occasions each for a period of 2-3 months, she has very special way with dogs having them obey her with a gentle hand. My dog goes absolutely ballistic joy when Kristin arrives, Kristin is on time and often stays longer to help with a specific behavior we are trying to teach. She carries water and all sorts of things she made me during the walk. You could have a better person to trust with your pet.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does boarding a horse cost?

Finding the right horse boarding location is a big step in a horse owner’s life. This will be the place your horse will live and where you will visit multiple times per week or even daily. The cost of horse boarding will depend on the level of service you desire, the location of the stables, and the luxury level of the property. Here are some examples of average horse boarding costs:

      • Overnight stabling: $30 per horse per night.
      • Partial boarding (owner feeds and mucks): $220 per horse per month, with a three-month commitment.
        • Administration of oral medication: $10 per dose.
        • Bandaging: $20 per event, plus cost of materials.
        • Trailering to vet if owner is unable: $25, plus $25 per hour to wait with horse.
      • Basic full boarding: $325-$350 per month per horse. Includes twice daily hay and daily stall cleaning.
        • Horse training: $20 per session.
        • Pasture turn out: $20 per session.
        • Blanketing: $1 per day/$30 per month.
        • Vet or farrier hold: $20. This means haltering the horse and standing with it as it receives treatment or shoeing.

Where can I board my horse?

You can board your horse at any barn or stable that provides horse boarding services. To find horse boarding near you, read reviews of area locations and speak with equestrian friends to find one with a solid reputation. Ideally, the location will be within a reasonable drive from your home or office. This is especially important if you are paying for partial boarding services and are responsible for feeding your horse and cleaning its stall each day. You may choose your boarding barn or stables based on the services they provide. Some offer more extensive amenities — at an added price — that reduce the amount of work you need to do to keep your horse comfortable. Consider whether you want training, blanketing, exercise and other perks in addition to standard offerings like hay and stable mucking. Your stable may have temperament requirements and proof that your horse has the proper vaccinations required by your state. This protects both your horse and the other horses in the stable. Many states require that locations offering horse boarding services have stable licenses that are renewed each year. Always be sure to enter into a clearly written boarding contract that will cover your horse and belongings in case of accident, and remember our tips for smart hiring.

      What is horse boarding?

Horse boarding is like rental housing for your horse. Horse boarding is helpful for people who don’t have the space or the resources to install and maintain a stable on their property. A horse can be housed in a barn with other horses and receive the care they need. Owners can visit their horse for riding, grooming, training, etc. Horse boarding services may vary based on the company and the price. Some horse boarders may offer short-term boarding of 24 hours to several nights for people passing through an area, while most offer boarding by the month for horses whose owners live in the area. There is partial- and full-service boarding, which indicates how much of the work of feeding the horse and cleaning the stall is the responsibility of the owner rather than the boarding barn. For an added fee, horse boarding can also include grooming services, riding and training, medication administration, and more.

To find the right boarding fit for you and your horse, make a list of your top priorities. These might include immediate access to riding trails, round-the-clock supervision, or a nearby or affiliated veterinarian. Always visit the site to learn exactly where your horse will be kept and whether the barn and grounds are in good condition. Read reviews, and always practice smart hiring. It’s also critical to sign the proper legal documents that protect both you and your horse, such as boarding agreements. Above all, make sure it seems like a place your horse will be comfortable between your visits.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
