Installed a large new vanity with top and hooked up the plumbing to it. Sounds like a simple job but for one the drain location in the wall was in a very awkward position in relation to the sink and Glenn used all of the right fittings to make a strong and lifelong connection. Second the vanity top was about 1" too large for the opening meaning he had to remove a cabinet in order to get it in place. A lot of extra work was put in and I didnt hear one complaint. I have flipped multiple houses and worked in commercial construction for 10 years and he has been one of the easiest people to deal with, especially if something unexpected comes up (which it always will). Thanks Glenn!

Great independent contractor to get the small stuff done. Searched out re-use items as options and communicated status progress. Be sure to discuss hauling away debris prior to starting though.

Edward was the only one to respond to my request on a Sunday. He did not charge an extra fee for coming on a Sunday. He fixed what I needed fixing and even looked at a different issue. I had called two other company's which both wanted to charge $229 to $300 just for coming on a Sunday PLUS expenses for hourly and parts. Edward charged me $45. I gave him $95 because he was prompt in responding to my request for service during snow storm, prompt in coming to my house (30 minutes later), didn't charge extra for a Sunday, respectable, nice, honest and a hard worker. I would recommend him to anyone needing help on a weekend especially!

Fantastic!! On time, polite, affordable and know what he is doing. Hired him to install new kitchen & bathroom faucets & bedroom door knob. Then, re-hired to buy/install new storm door and hauled the old one. He even fixed the gutter obstracting the storm door. Next week, He will replace my 8x8 deck and I'm sure it will be great once he is done. I have few more projects and definitely hire him again. Thank you so much Corey!

I asked Chris Wilhelm of Compass Home Repair and Renovation to install a utility sink in my basement. I had recently done a renovation restoring a bedroom, bathroom suite along with adding a washer and dryer for a a tenant. I didn't think about a utility sink, as part of that renovation which is a useful thing to have for larger and dirty clean-up projects. I only had a sink. There was no drain, no spigot or faucets. He dropped by my home to get an idea of the job's specifics and returned a week later. Chris installed the sink with a few hiccups along the way (such as trying to figure out how to turn off the water--not his fault--the recent plumbing was unlike anything he'd ever encountered. The sink works beautifully, and he integrated it next to the washer/dryer without taking up any additional space in this storage area. Best of all is the hose attachment, which insures that hard-to-reach spaces can be reached without effort. I've already hired Chris to do some restoration of my porch steps, which is due to be done this Saturday.

We hired Osvaldo to help install our new faucets (five of them) and hook 'em up to the drain pipes. Osvaldo was extremely flexible with our timeline and showed up a few minutes earlier than the agreed upon time. We had a couple of faucets that turned out to be a bit challenging because of the way the sink hole was positioned and wouldn't align with a drain pipe. Osvaldo took the time to explain what the problem was and how he was going to fix it. In the course of installing the faucets, he had to make three trips to Ace Hardware, which he never once complained about. He is very knowledgeable in his area of expertise and was able to overcome the issues through some smart thinking. He did not rush through the project and performed his job to our expectations. We would hire him again in a heartbeat for all of our future plumbing needs. It would be very hard to go wrong with this guy!

It was a little spendy, but worth every penny to see the sink drain quickly and the dishwasher not backing up into the sink.

Matt just finished installing water and drain pipes in our kitchen, and extended our gas line for our cook top. He was fast and friendly, and got the job done sooner and for a lot less than we were expecting! I'd absolutely recommend him.

Lino did an excellent job of cleaning up and preparing my rental house for occupancy after it was vacated without being properly cleaned or cared for. He did major cleaning in the kitchen, painting and wall touch-up in the living room, minor cupboard and storm window repair; and cleaning of gutters and debris left behind by previous tenants. He came to the job exactly at the time promised, worked diligently, and completed the work on time. He asked me about a couple of things I had overlooked--and agreed to take care of them. I was completely satisfied with the quality, time required, and cost of the work Lino completed. I will definitely use him again and have no reservations in commending him for the good work he did on my house.

Rise was the first to respond the weekend I sent out my request, and they came out the next day. They were very friendly, and showed up right when they said they would. The job (Clogged underground drain pipe) ended up being much more problematic than originally expected. They stayed well past the appointment time and got it done! They also did a great job cleaning up when they left.

They were very responsive I contacted them on Sunday night they were there on time Monday a.m. They had to replace my main drain and that was done by Wednesday at Noon. Very conscientious and polite, cleaned up my bathroom. They made an upsetting issue as painless as possible. They kept me totally informed with the process. I would recommend them to any one😄

We have been living in this house for 10+ years. Today a few days ago we noticed that non of our drains were flowing properly. Not knowing what to do we checked google to see if we could find someone. Cornel's answered the phone and were at our house within an hour! They opened up our outside drain and there was water pouring out. They asked if there was anything I had been doing out of the ordinary with the drain system. Sadly I had indeed been putting baby wipes down the drain. Well. It's safe to say I won't be doing that anymore! Cornel's used their machine to clear the whole line and even inspected it with a camera so I could see what was going on! Great service, great timing & customer service.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
