Absolutely top notch. And I'm picky. I got top quality. Honest, respectful, reliable. Fair price, delivered exactly as promised. Cleaned a huge tri level home, including cabinets & drawers inside and out, 31/2 bathrooms, tile, laminate, mirrors, appliances, windows inside and out, deck and hard scape. He said it would be perfect and it is. Best carpet cleaning I've ever had, wished he had been cleaning my carpets all along. Highest recommendation. Many thanks, Alexander

Chris removed a window and installed a door in its place. He was prompt and worked efficiently to complete the job. He is responsive to texts and always let me know what was happening. He will be returning to do another project for me in January. Highly recommended!

I hired Stacey to install a Ceiling fan in my "Dining Room" and a Chandelier in the entryway to my Condo. Stacey was super friendly, efficient, creative and the fee for his service was reasonable. I will hire him again very soon to replace a Window in my bedroom and a sliding glass door in my Kitchen. Thanks for everything Stacey.

I was selling my home and needed one of my windows repaired. The seal had broken in between the panes of glass. I got the run around from several companies, including some of the big name companies, on why they wouldn't come fix my one window. Westcoast Windows and Doors not only took the job but they were fast, professional, and a pleasure to work with.

Daniel replaced a window at my house that had been broken into. It was a 1950s window with weights and sashes, so it was a little involved getting the old window out, and the new window framed correctly and put in. He installed a nice Pella vinyl window! I love it! He worked in the freezing cold to finish the job, which took longer than anticipated, without as much as a single complaint about any of the circumstances (or my dogs!) I've dealt with several unreliable, poor-communicating contractors over the past year, and Daniel was head and shoulders above them in terms of responsibility, punctuality and work well done, just as he said it would be. I am very pleased with his work, and I would highly recommend this very nice, self-sufficient, and reasonably priced contractor to my friends and family. Thank you, Daniel!

Quoted me a great price for the windows I wanted. Other companies quoted me double the price for the same windows. They came on time and finished 12 windows in 1 day. They were clean and professional. Communication with them was fantastic. I would highly recommend. You should read reviews and shop around before you make a decision on a major window project.

there isn't going to be room for all the great things we have to say about Eric Fowler. Quick to respond by both phone and email. Came to the house a gave a quote the next day. send a text apologizing that he was going to be 10 minutes late - who is that courteous anymore? a very reasonable quote, made sure we signed a contract to protect us both. He started the next day !!! He asked lots of questions to make sure he understood what we wanted and inquired at several intervals wondering if the work completed to date was to our satisfaction. we now have excellent storage shelves in the garage and 2 other locations, doors and windows that work, new and freshly painted linen drawers and many other upgrades. Eric is polite, a hard worker, and honest. He is knowledgeable regarding how to do the job the right way but also has tips to help save you $$. He and his crew cleaned up after themselves and were a pleasure to have in our home We now have an "Eric list" for all of our next projects we are lining up. He has so many great reviews, we'll be lucky to get him back. Hiring Fresh Painting and Remodeling for your next project is a no brainer.

Good crew of strong young men tore out my old kitchen walls and popcorn ceiling. Provided extra help to lift and place a big new support beam in attic. Cleaned up well afterwards. They came back to install new sheetrock for ceiling and walls. Excellent work! Then the mudding and finish work was done by a VERY experienced, high quality pro who did a beautiful job! So nice. Hardly any sanding, so less dust. He is like a "secret weapon" to finish a great job! Leftcoast hauled away our debris pile too!

I really appreciate Duane's work on this project. It was a smaller job but an important one to get done before the rains began. He retrimmed the outside of two weather-facing windows. He used quality materials and was prompt in his estimate and his work. The work site was left very clean. He was very communicative as to the status of the project and when he would return to finish (painting). His fees are very fair--in fact, FAR less than the other two quotes I received through Thumbtack. Because of his quality work on this project, I've already given him another small project to do next month!

Professional and able to handle any extra issues uncovered after removing flooring from a toilet leak. Fixed a drain pipe in crawl space, connected dryer vent and unclogged it in crawl space, installed better support for bathroom floor, leveled out bathroom floor, fixed the toilet leak, replaced flooring with new vinyl, and textured parts of exposed bare drywall due to the floor being leveled out.

Javier responded minutes after I posted, showed up the next morning and did fantastic work. He hung exterior window shutters on the front of our house. I will procure his services again for any construction, plumbing, electrical or handyman needs. Oh, and in addition to his work, he's a really good person. Highest of character.

Start to Finish Construction remodeled our daylight basement after a very bad flood situation. They removed and hauled away all the damaged carpet and drywall. All new drywall was installed along with all new wood trim, carpeting and vinyl flooring. We were very happy with the end result and Chad added some very nice touches to the trim work at no extra charge. We had one small issue that was resolved very promptly. I would use them again without hesitation!

We had Matt come out from AllPhase come out and give us a quote on replacing our basement windows, making an egress point in our basement and laying some walkways. Throughout the consulting phase Matt was very professional and he set realistic expectations on time and price. At the end of the project the work completed was exceptional and done quicker than expected. I've already had two of my neighbors come by and ask me for Matt's number. I highly recommend Matt and AllPhase Construction and tell my friends and family to go with them if they want an great experience.

Matt responded right away. We traded information on email. He came to my house to look at the project I needed done. We agreed on a fare price (digging 4 well holes for basement windows). He was able to bring a small crew and begin work the very next day. They worked very fast, cleaned up after and I was very satisfied.

We had a small job (with a 14' wall) that we could not paint. We received an estimate within 24 hours of submitting a request via Thumbtack. Joran started/finished the job on the same day. Work was well done and he even cleaned a window that we couldn't reach. We will definitely use him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
