I just bought a large house that had lots of dark red, green, gold, taupe, and blue interior paint (it all needed to go). I wanted to paint the entire interior a warm white with some areas in soft light greens. There was also quite a few significant cracks in the wall to be fixed. It was going to be a big job and a challenge to cover such dark strong colors with much lighter paint. I chose A&C Innovative Contractors and I am so happy with their work! It looks so amazing and turned out exactly how I wanted. A&C Innovative Contractors gave me a great deal and I cannot recommend them enough.

Interior painting - walls looked great. Had to call back for a few minor items and cleanup was less than preferred. But Tim was quick to respond and dispatch people for the follow up work. Would use him again.

Damas painting went above and beyond in the care and quality job they did painting the exterior of our 100 year old home. Damas was not the cheapest bid we received but from our first meeting Fernando showed an understanding of the prep work that our home needed that others did not. We would hire them again and recommend them to anyone looking for a quality paint job!

This review has been a long time coming. My wife and I bought a dump and slowly remodeled it over a few years. Then, I found out I got my dream job in Austin TX, and we had to sell our house FAST. Only one tiny problem - it wasn't finished! That's where Eric with Fresh Painting and Remodeling came in. Eric gave me a very reasonable estimate for installation/painting of baseboards throughout the entire house and installation/painting of a few interior doors. I'm far too exhausted to post pics, but suffice it to say the baseboards looked fantastic. Our house had 5 offers, all above asking price, within 60 hours of going on the market. I would say others thought Eric's work was good to say the least. In addition to fantastic finish carpentry work at a very reasonable price, Eric was especially courteous considering our 2 month old baby. Several times he went out of his way to help. For example, he completely finished the baseboards in our master bedroom first so that we would have a place to let our baby sleep. At one point, he even took 3 trips to the garage to recharge his air compressor just so that he wouldn't wake up the baby. I can only hope I find a contractor in TX that I trust this much to do good work at a reasonable price!

Lino is very agreeable to work with and he did a great job on my interior painting and handyman tasks. He is a little less responsive than I'd prefer but eventually you hear from him

We could not be happier to have chosen Diaz Professional Painting for our large interior painting project. We needed our entire 1,500 sq. ft. home painted, which required so much detail and patience. Vicky and her team were able to get the job done beyond my expectations. They were very professional, detail-oriented and extremely dedicated to quality. Vicky led us through the step-by-step process, made helpful recommendations, and was also attentive to details we would not had thought of. The entire team is also very friendly, reliable, and easy to communicate with. I could not believe how fast they got the paint job completed and the number of hours they put in each day. They are truly hard workers that are serious about providing the best service. I will not hesitate to hire them in the future for similar projects.

Miguel has done multiple projects for me since I first hired him on thumbtack. He has redone two bathrooms, painted the interior of our house, laid floor in the kitchen, put up a wall, the list is endless. He can do anything. His work is high quality, he is a perfectionist and detailed. He leaves the job site tidy while doing the project and cleans it well when he leaves. He is trustworthy - had entrance to our house for months asI kept giving him new projects. I highly recommend him and would give personal references.

They showed up at 7am on a Saturday at my request. It was an interior painting job and the quality was A+. When they were done there weren't any traces that they had been in my home and everything was put back exactly as it should have. I recommend LGD to anyone.

Paul did a great job patching drywall and painting where a heat pump had been removed, another place where there had been water damage, and a small seam separation in a soffit. He made it all disappear and blend in with the rest of the room. He was very professional and pleasant to work with. He came out the day after Clearview Painting was selected for the job and was finished within two days. We recommend him highly. Some before and after photos attached.

Tells Painting did a great job painting my living area (kitchen, dining room & living room) & master bedroom. I requested that the ceilings, walls, doors & trim be painted along with some wall repairs. The work was done very quickly & turned out excellent. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. I would not hesitate to hire Telles Painting again in the future. John & Michelle were wonderful to work with!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
