I had a window that had been installed without a lintel and exterior cap by my home's previous owner. The team at ADAD Construction came out to view the space and worked up a quote that fit my budget. The job was done in half a day and looks great. William and his team are very professional and courteous.

I posted my job on Thumbtack on a Sunday and Sherman not only replied the same day, the job was completed the following Wesnesday. Although he has a very busy business, he is responsive and truly cares about the job, and that comes through in his execution. Sherman's attention to detail and the focus on my main concerns was truly comforting. I had a very poor roof installation that had caused leaks in my roof and I lost all faith in the previous company. Sherman was able to pinpoint the exact problem and he assured me that he could fix it. He clearly has experience and knowledge of his craft, he uses high quality materials, and the results are proof of that. He takes detailed pictures and the communication was exactly what a homeowner wants from someone performing such important work. Sherman also diagnosed and repaired all the gutters around the house, once again with attention to detail and high quality products. I asked him to quote a family members work as well, and he went over the same day. I cannot express my satisfaction enough with his professionalism. Great response, communication, punctuality, execution and follow up. I only wish I had hired him originally to do the entire roof. You will not be disappointed when you chose Sherman Construction.

James was great. He gave me honest feedback about repairing our skylight/surrounding area, which saved me thousands of dollars compared to repair options I was given by other contractors. It hasn't leaked since. Couldn't be happier. Thanks again!

Sorry, I thought my review was left long ago! I have to leave a comment because this was the BEST experience I've ever had with a contractor. I had my basement windows installed and it was A LOT of work. Now the basement windows are the best windows in my house! Not because of the windows I selected, but because of the professional and impeccable work performed. I will be calling again for this year's project. Thank you so much, and I'm sorry this review is coming so late.

Glen and his crew did an excellent job laying my natural stone floors. From the first conversation, I knew they were knowledgeable and professional. The installers worked with my family so that we could maintain our normal routines as much as possible during the installation. The flooring installation exceeded my expectations. Glen worked with my budget and provided helpful suggestions to save money. I look forward to a long relationship with JR Custom Builders as they are coming back to renovate my kitchen.

Sewell was great to work with. He was quick to respond, fairly priced incredibly friendly and professional. He even made a Home Depot run to get extra parts required to complete the faucet installation. I highly recommend him.

Ardmoor was the first to return my call and the first to get onsite to provide an estimate. Their price was very competitive. The window was ready and installed several days earlier than they said it would be and the quality of the window and installation were great! I would certainly call them for future repairs.

Needed to install 50' of 6' privacy fence. Inquired on Thumbtack. Rita phone me next day, which I really appreciated, I prefer to speak to someone. Very accommodating to schedule a free estimate. Met with Mike and Rita, rec'd a fair quote. They installed 3days later while we were on vacation! We came home to a beautiful yard. They did quality work, it just looks beautiful. They took wonderful care of our property in our absence. Would definitely use again and recommend to everyone. Thank you Mike and Rita!! Great Job😄

They refused to give me a quote because my wife is not here for appointment. They never mentioned she would need to be here. My wife is not involved in the decision to purchase new windows and is not on the deed of the house. I'm in charge of making the window purchase decision and they wont let me do that.

Very professional, I was very pleased from the beginning. I was not pressured to hire them. They gave me time to look over the quote and ask questions. I had 7 windows installed and it took about 3 weeks from the day I ordered until it was installed. Prices are great and Installation took only 1 day. the installation team was very professional and clean. Already requested another quote for more windows. I would definitely recommend them and would do more business with them again.

So i had a total of 6 people come and quote me for this project. 4/6 were cheaper than Paul (not by much) but what made me choose Paul was his attention to detail. Most folks came over, looked at the project, left and sent me the quote later. Paul came over, took measurements, and made sure he was able to find siding that closely matches what I have BEFORE he gave me a quote. This way there were no surprises when it came time to do the project. When the siding and windows came in Paul and I believe his Father In Law came over and worked thoroughly making sure everything was done correct. When there were concerns I had (nothing major) he was quick to acknowledge and resolve them. He was very responsive the entire time and kept me in the loop with things as it were happening. I appreciate all the hard work and effort he put in removing my door and putting in the window and I look forward to working with him on further projects I have.

Got a brand new roof installed, it looks very nice and was done quickly (took just 2 days). The workers who did the roof were nice guys and worked very hard in tremendous heat. I have no complaints about the work done. However, the manager Edison... that is a different story. I am not going to leave a bad review ONLY because I feel bad for the workers and don't want them to lose their source of income by not being hired again. It is not their fault that they have a horrible boss. Edison truly needs to re-think his interaction with customers and maybe take some courses on effective communication, responsiveness, anger management, and honesty. When I originally wrote this review in Word, it was about 2.5 pages, but I decided to be the bigger person and just let it go. Edison - I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you can treat future customers better than you treated me.

Renoviso is replacing a couple of windows and installing a skylight in my South Philly rowhouse. We looked into other companies for the job but our experience with Renoviso was the best by far -- fair, upfront pricing, no high pressure sales, and a helpful and knowledgeable team. Looking forward to having Joe and his team complete the install in the next few weeks. Happy to welcome Renoviso to the Philly area, I will definitely use them for future projects!

Patrick did an amazing job with our basement. Our basement was totally a useless space. and my husband and I had a vision and Patrick made that vision come to life; we absolutely LOVE our basement. He turned our boring unfinished basement into a beautiful area where we can entertain guest, he added an extra room which we use as a art studio, a laundry room was also added, he created a utility closet , brand new floors, beautiful recess lightings he went above and beyond to make our basement beautiful. The best part is Patrick is very nice and a pleasure to work with.... he is very professional, and polite, he will also educate you by breaking down what he is doing and why he is doing it. I will definitely refer Patrick to family and friends. Thank you again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
