Introduction: I am a Pittsburgh-based Massage Therapist. My practice (and goals) are keyed to using touch therapies (i.e., Massage Therapy) to prevent, reduce and manage stress (physical, mental and emotional) . . to reduce the tensions from work and everyday living . . to improve my clients' quality of life. Essentially, I help my clients to manage and eliminate pain and discomfort, thereby making them happier. I enjoy helping my clients resolve their issues. It is gratifying to help relieve client stress and tensions. Every client presents with unique and individual symptoms. I challenge myself each time with new clients to create a strategy that resolves their issues. My interest in Massage Therapy stems from curiosity. I have always been curious about the gulf between Western medicine and Eastern medicine. I decided to study the touch (i.e., hands on) modalities of Eastern medicines. Massage therapy is a touch modality. Touch modalities manipulate the body to produce beneficial effects. Massage Therapy is best at releasing stress. Recent studies have proven that stress is a contributing factor to 90% of all illnesses. Stress inhibits the immune system. This in turn opens the body to a multitude of illnesses. Massage manages stress by providing pain relief and tension release. When stress is taken out of the equation, healing can proceed at an accelerated rate. Recent studies have proven this repeatedly.

Continuing education is a constant for me as a Massage therapist. By law, I must keep my CPR AED card up-to-date. Recently, I completed the following courses: ETHICS FOR THE MASSAGE PROFESSIONAL (certificate of completion); THE TOP TEN PAIN RELEASERS (Certificate of Attendance); Last year, I became a Certified Geriatric Massage Therapist. My professional organization is the American Massage Therapist Assn (AMTA). They provide abundant resources to help massage therapists build, maintain and improve our practices. I also maintain subscriptions to AMTA Massage Therapy Journal, as well as Massage Magazine. Also, I regularly do research online. This enables me to maitain an eye on the latest developments and research.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

As a martial artist, I have a practical knowledge and intimate hands-on experience with the physiology of our bodies. Our bodies have the ability to sustain our life, provide us locomotion and make possible a quality of life. This is simply the miracle of life and living. It is also something we tend to take for granted until something seems to go wrong. I use Massage to help maintain client physiology in an optimal state to provide greater quality of life.
