Magic Mark Cook rolled up to my house with a confident swagger. Dressed in jeans and a blazer, there was a classy yet ready-to-work vibe. His tricks were very impressive, yet that was only a portion of his entertaining repertoire. Not only did he amaze those at the graduation party with his dumbfounding magic, but he induced smiles and laugher during his tricks with witty jokes and quick quips. He charmed the diverse party of all ages and worked the crowd so that all were equally able to experience his fine skill. He engaged his audience, usually smaller groups of about five at a time, with a vast variety of tricks and a charming personality, both making the people craving for more. What made his performance, in part, so lively was his enthusiasm and love for magic. You could tell he very much enjoyed his work. Mark voluntarily worked longer than what I asked of him, and he even finished the night's entertainment with a telling of his thrilling and comedic tale of "Horsman," complete with an accompanying soundtrack to enhance the experience. Overall, he is a talented and lively entertainer who will certainly turn an event from good to unforgettable.

Monte has been my son's guitar teacher for six years. He taught him to play his first chord and is now working on intricate pieces. My son loves working with Monte. Number one reason is that Monte allows his students to play the kind of music that most interests them. Monte has also given him opportunities to play with his peers and in a couple live performances. My son really looks forward to every lesson and with Monte's guidance has become an awesome guitar player!

Bob came in Christmas Day to entertain about 20 children. He arrived in time and ready to go and left with a lot of happy faces around the house. His balloon creations are amazing. Thanks Bob.

Clint performed some of his magic for my spring piano recital (our theme was "The Magic Of Music"), and the audience loved it!! He was funny, energetic, and got the audience to participate! He also did some really amazing magic! He has a large repertoire of tricks, and he adapted his program perfectly for my students. I definitely recommend him!

Ryan Was our DJ November 5, 2016. He was amazing, I can't speak highly enough of what a great experience working with him and our wedding day was!! He helped with music selection and the flow of our ceremony and reception. He picked perfect music though out the evening and had everyone dancing the entire time! Sorry this review is so late. I have had so many performers over the years. But Bob is outstanding. He was on time, drsssed so well and had a sound system. He is a true entertainer. His high end balloon sculptures facisnated children and even the adults so much, he was the talk of the party. In addition to that he performed ventriloquism for our event that captivated everyone. Have to say I will use him again and highly recommend his talents to all.

DJ Josh formerly ran the Saturday Nights at a bar I used to run. He provided a VideoMix with his songs, adding music videos to enhance my patrons experience. Josh is a professional, always listening to requests from patrons, and taking direction from myself and other managers at the bar. He even made some suggestions to help us make the bar a better place.

About

It's your day to shine, so why not select a DJ that will tailor the reception to what you want? At Smokin' Entertainment, Pittsburgh's premier wedding DJ company, we let you pick the music, take requests from your guests, and most importantly, listen to what you want. After all, it is one of the most important days of your life! When planning the wedding and reception, much thought will go into your big day — from the flowers to the selection of the menu — but what about the entertainment? Clearly, you are the center and the stars of the day, but the person you pick to be the musical emcee, whether a band or a DJ, certainly make the day not only more memorable, but also more enjoyable. Think of the last wedding that you attended. What made it fun? What do you remember most about the evening? When the DJ/emcee is good, people most often remember the fun that they had; however, when the DJ is not so good, people tend to zero in on that fact most often, citing it as the reason they didn't have fun. At Smokin' Entertainment, we work with you to ensure that your reception is tailored to your wants and needs. We believe that each reception is unique, and we rely on your input for each detail of the reception. After all, if you are having a good time, then it's a good bet that your guests are as well. Of course, we will always offer suggestions and advice to help you decide — after ten years of providing quality entertainment, we have seen and done a lot, but the final decisions always remain yours.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a bounce house?

Bounce houses, inflatable castles, moon bounces, inflatable slides and jumpy castles are all large-scale inflatable houses made for interactive entertainment. Commonly intended for children, bounces houses are made of PVC or other durable materials such as nylon or vinyl that when look like a house or castle when inflated. Rental companies deliver bounce houses to birthday parties, festivals, fairs and other events. The companies have industrial-grade blowers that fill the large structures with air to make them bounceable. A common size for a bounce house might be 15 feet by 15 feet by 13 feet. Bounce houses often have a flat, inflatable bottom pad and inflatable walls so that kids can jump and bounce without being hurt, along with a netting door and windows so that kids can see out and adults can see in. Bounce houses are suitable for both indoor or outdoor events, depending on the venue. For large events, rental companies often have a staff member who stays with the structure to monitor safety and keep it properly inflated. There are also wet/dry bounce houses with slides that you can hook up to a hose on hot summer days. A bounce house can be a fantastic addition to a party with kids, keeping them both entertained and contained.

Are bounce houses safe?

Bounce houses can be safe if operators and parents take proper precautions. Before renting from a company, confirm they are a legitimate company and hold any licenses and insurance required by your state. Ask to see reports of bounce house safety inspections provided by third parties, to make sure the equipment is in good operating condition to prevent injuries. If the rental company does not provide a staff member to oversee the bounce house for the duration of the rental, make sure you are properly trained on how to oversee the equipment. The American Academy of Pediatrics offers these guidelines for parents to help keep their kids safe when using a bounce house:

  • Follow guidelines for safe installation including anchoring. Position away from fences, greenhouses, branches, etc., which would be dangerous should a child fall onto them.
  • Consider limiting use to children 6 years of age and older.
  • Have kids take off footwear, eyeglasses and jewelry before playing.
  • Take sharp objects (pens, keys) that could cause puncture injuries out of their pockets and hands before playing.
  • Don’t let kids of significantly different sizes into the bounce house at the same time. Smaller kids can get hurt by colliding with or falling under an older child.
  • Heed the height and weight regulations of the inflatable.
  • Food, drink, bottles, glasses, etc., should not be taken onto the bounce house.
  • Supervision should be maintained all the time. Supervision means watching constantly, not just being in the area.
  • Do not allow children to push other children off the inflatable. If it is a flatbed, this is especially important to avoid broken arms and legs. If the bounce house is walled, don’t let kids bounce against the walls and crash into one another — this can result in collision injuries.
  • Don’t exceed the maximum number of children at one time in the bounce house.
  • Don’t let kids climb onto the outside walls. Flips and rough play should also not be allowed.

How much does bounce a house cost to rent?

Bounce houses are a fun way to keep kids entertained during birthday parties and other events. The national average cost for renting a bounce house ranges between $160 and $200. Cost will be affected by the size, design and functions of the bounce house you rent as well as the length of the rental. A three-hour rental will likely cost less than an eight-hour rental. Many rental companies offer fun additions like popcorn machines or cotton candy makers, and provide packages with discounts on multiple items. Another item that you may want to rent with your inflatable is a generator to keep the bounce house inflated. Here are some examples of average inflatable rental costs, packages, and common add-ons that many companies provide:

  • Bounce house, 10x10x13-foot: $95.
  • Bounce house, 15x15x13.5-foot: $125.
  • Wet/dry slide, 14-foot: $150.
  • Wet/dry slide, 20-foot: $250.
  • Combo bouncer and slide, 24x10x13-foot: $140.
  • Combo bouncer and wet/dry slide, $175.
  • Folding chairs: $1.50 per chair.
  • 6-foot folding table: $8.
  • Snow cone machine: $45.
  • Popcorn machine: $55.
  • Cotton candy machine: $55.
  • 2300-watt generator: $75.
  • 3000-watt generator: $100.
  • $299.95 package: includes a 20-foot dual slide ($250), table ($8), 10 chairs ($15), and a popcorn machine ($55) — $29 savings.
  • $450 package: includes a double water slide ($350) and bounce castle ($130) — $30 savings.
