I am so glad that I found Sara. She is my new go-to dog sitter! I took my dog over to her home and she was immediately at ease, running around in the fenced back yard. Sara watched my dog for three days and did great. Sara was able to give her space separated from her other dogs, which I had requested because my dog is sometimes skittish. When I picked my dog up, she was calm and happy, which is not usually the case (usually seems freaked out when I go away). I think Sara really put her at ease. I look forward to having Sara dog sit for me again!

I hired Kyle to take care of my cat while I was out of town. I was pleased with his professionalism, and my cat must have been pleased too - she came to say hello to him every day (I know because he sent me pictures!), which she usually doesn't do when strangers are around! I'd definitely recommend Kyle, and would hire him again.

Today was the first time I met Steve in my home. I feel very confident that he has the ability to help teach me to be the best dog owner I can be! I demonstrated my dog running off the porch and down the walkway with me while he was on a leash. I also shared a video of my dog biting at me while trying to get him inside. I'm looking forward to our training classes and am anxious to get started.

I hired Peggy after reading several good reviews. She was able to meet me the same day as my inquiry and watch my cat the next two days. It could not have gone smoother. She stopped by my house for the key and to meet in person. My shy cat took to her right away. She texted me updates while I was out of town and spent a lot of time with my cat. I have already booked my next appointment with Peggy for my next out of town trip.

My 10 year old daughter started horse lessons wth Michelle about 2 years ago and absolutely loves it! My daughter would never want to ride somewhere else and looks forward to her lessons each week. Michelle is great with the children and does a phenomenal job teaching the kids the fundamentals of riding. She lets them learn everything from grooming and getting the horses ready to actually riding. She teaches all groups whether beginner or advanced and I would highly recommend her to anyone. She is flexible with her lessons and her prices are very reasonable as well. And she runs a nice farm with some really great horses that we have become attached too!

Alyssa was very nice. She tried but our cat didn't do so well with a dog groomer. We need to have a cat specialist next time for our cat that got upset-even though Alyssa was very nice.

Debbie was excellent with my Maine coon cat Rocky. He had suddenly formed a huge matt on his back. Every step he took this matt would be like someone was pulling his fur. She came to my house and had the matt trimmed off in no time. Rocky is the epitome of the term scaredy cat. She was so quick he did not know what happened. She even took the time to remove a couple of smaller matts that were beginning to form on his brother. I would highly recommend using Debbie to trim your pets. Thank you Debbie.

Jordan Is AMAZING!! We had our little boy "Spirit" groomed 4 days ago and he is like a BRAND NEW KITTY NOW!! So, of course, Spirit looks great. And, In fact, we have never seen him look better...ever. Jordan took care of EVERYTHING that one could possibly want done with grooming a cat. Therefore, her expertise in the area of grooming, is quite-evidently-obvious!! HOWEVER, there is more than that, that goes along with "Jordan's Touch"...much, much, more. Jordan has a way with animals, that is very, special. She has a gift. After being groomed by Jordan, our little Spirit has a brand new confidence about himself and his surroundings; He is vastly more energetic; And, he clearly has an overall better sense of well-being and happiness with life....all after being groomed by Jordan. My wife and I really can't get over it. We are incredibly happy with our entire experience!!! We both, HIGHLY RECOMMEND JORDAN for any and all of your " Little Baby's" grooming needs. Thank You for Reading, Have a Wonderful Day, Danny and Sharon Holbrook and Family-

I have a 3 year old miniature schnauzer named Gia. My reason for having her join the pack was to get her more comfortable around other dogs. I spent a lot of time working with Gia and she is a good well trained dog except in this area. I couldn't get her over her fear of other dogs. She would bark and carry on whenever she saw another dog. She has been walking with the pack for a few months now and when Melissa picks her up she runs to the car and jumps in, she can't wait to see the other dogs. I would recommend Unmistakable Dog to anyone. Melissa does a wonderfully professional job. Linda M.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do cats have to get groomed?

It’s not crazy to have your cat groomed. Grooming will keep your cat’s fur soft and silky as well as give you early warning about any health concerns. Regular grooming can also help reduce the volume of hair your cat may be shedding and keep your longhair kitty cool if you live in a warm climate. Professionals competently groom your cat and are trained to manage them if they resist being groomed, while you may get scratched doing the same task. The national average price for cat grooming is $50-$70. Pet grooming prices may vary based on the task. For example, a bath and brush for shorthair cats may be $15, $20 for medium-hair cats, and $25 for a longhair. Cat groomers can also keep your cat’s ears cleaned, trim their nails, and provide haircuts if needed. Average prices for haircuts can vary from $30 to $95 or more, depending on whether the cat is shy or aggressive and whether their coat is in good condition, matted, or otherwise difficult to groom.

How much should cat grooming cost?

Keeping your cat groomed is an important part of maintaining their good health. The national average cost for cat grooming ranges between $50 and $70, with prices varying based on where you live and the services you request. Your cat’s temperament can also affect grooming prices. Scratching and hissing during a groomer visit can raise rates an average of $5-$10, or more, as hazard pay. Larger cats and long-haired cats that take longer to groom will also usually cost more. Here are some examples of cat grooming average costs:

  • Shave down or lion cut: $35-$60. These cuts preserve the hair around the face and tip of the tail but shave down the entire body. The lion cut is often recommended for extremely matted hair is exceedingly matted, for extreme heat, or for cats who are suffering from hairballs.
  • Ear cleaning and nail trim: $30.
  • Nail trim: $10-$15.
  • Bath and nail trim: $45.
  • Bath and sanitary trim: $55. A sanitary trim clips the hair on a cat’s behind to prevent fecal matting in longhair cats or cats that have mobility issues.
  • Bath, blow-dry, brush out, nail trim and ear cleaning: $40.
  • Full haircut, bath, and nail trim: $45-$95, depending on matting.

Where can you get your cat groomed?

Cat grooming keeps your cat’s fur tangle-free and clean. Most businesses that offer dog grooming or general pet grooming also offer cat grooming; some businesses even specialize solely in cat grooming. Look for a professional who has training grooming cats or belongs to a professional association such as the National Cat Groomers Institute, because cat grooming techniques can be different than for dogs. Cat grooming can encompass a wide range of services. In addition to haircutting, hair detangling and hairstyling, cat groomers can trim cat nails, clean out your cat’s ears, give flea baths, demat, trim facial fur, bathe and even blow-dry your cat. Health safety and etiquette requires your cat to be in good health and have all their vaccinations before using grooming services.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
