Introduction: I use research based methods that allow learners to acquire language in a natural way. This is done not through verb charts and vocabulary lists, but through learning in a way that mirrors how we learn our first language. Students hear slow, limited, comprehensible speech and master the most essential words and language structures that they need to communicate in a meaningful way. I love sharing my passion for language learners and helping others meet their goals. I love how language can open doors, bring people together, and make you think in an new way.

Growing up in a Latino household in North Philadelphia should have provided me with an uncanny grasp of the Spanish language. However, like many other Latinos growing up in many American cities, I have only walked away from my childhood with a very general sense of understanding the language without being able to speak it at all. In my adulthood I have taken Spanish courses in college, but to no avail. I have also sought out the aid of a few Spanish tutors. What I came to find out after many attempts to really learn Spanish is that no matter how well my previous teachers understood the language nor how fluent they were in speaking it, I didn't feel like they were particularly skilled at teaching a language (at least in the way I needed them to). I would later find out that this conclusion of mine was absolutely accurate when I began Spanish classes with Laura Schofield. Not only does this amazingly friendly young lady have an incredible accent and a full grasp on the Spanish language (as well as English), she is also very skilled as a teacher. I feel like she targets very specific trouble areas that have hindered my acquisition of the language, and she has a very lucid method for explaining the learning process. I am grateful to have found such an amazing teacher with a unique style and an obvious passion for both language acquisition and for teaching people. I would happily recommend this teacher to anyone looking to learn Spanish, from the beginner level to the advanced. She has a high standard for what she does, and seems to be a master of her craft. I happier than ever with the progress I have made and I look forward to continuing classes with her!

I have worked with Laura both one-on-one and in a small group class setting. She is an excellent, patient teacher and has a very good Spanish accent. Laura takes the time to prepare different and interesting teaching tools and tailors them specifically for her students. She is also flexible with scheduling and is a really nice person!

Laura is an excellent teacher with incredible patience and energy. She adapts her teaching to the level, needs and time limitations of the student. She is excellent at preparing lessons to meet the specific goals of students. She puts a lot of thought and preparation into planning lessons. She is a gem of a teacher/tutor.

Prioritize finding someone who's a true teacher over someone who's simply giving lessons. Your language tutor should speak to you about your goals, cater lessons to meet your needs, expose you to a variety of new language-learning resources, and provide frequent feedback. She should ensure that you have mastered a concept before moving on and demonstrate an ability to answer questions and clear up misunderstandings. She should be certified in her field and dedicated to her students' language learning.
