Karen was generous with her time, available and on the call at our set times and always provided critical feedback I needed to hear. Working with Dina was a complete God send and I want to take a moment to describe this experience. After a difficult personal journey in recovering from a job loss, I became quite despondent and lost in terms of “what do I do next”. I was on the job hunt, but literally did not know what to type in the search bar when it came to knowing what I was seeking within a career. Next enters Dina…within the vastness of Thumbtack’s objective of matching you with the right fit, Dina was the only one who sent me a non-auto-generated, well-crafted personal response to me. We immediately clicked in the consultation appointment, where she thoroughly explained how I could benefit from her expertise. From there, she assisted me in regaining my confidence, guiding me towards professional strengths and knowledge that I didn’t even know I had to offer. She coached me with how to converse and deal with recruiters—something I had never experienced before—and when the time was right to apply for positions, she helped me break-down the job description into a way I could understand my potential value, and together this allowed us to proceed with the resume and cover letter process. Can you imagine a scenario of a physician who made you feel like you were his/her only patient? This is what working with Dina was like. Along the way, Dina provided additional advice, words of wisdom, personal check-in’s, and “you might want to check this out” articles or videos. You could really feel the passion for the love of coaching others within her interactions. Within 3 months of her coaching, I have found a new career, one that I wasn’t even considering in terms of a profession. I whole-heartedly recommend Dina for assisting you within your career search or your professional growth!

Reverend Angela Rapalyea ("Angie" to those who know, love and respect her) is a competent, knowledgeable and extremely articulate teacher of the arts of metaphysical and ancient spiritual healing techniques. I entered my own experience with her as a curious skeptic and was so impressed with her font of knowledge and integration of that knowledge that I remained her student for 4 years completing my Reiki I, II, Advanced Apprenticeship and Masters with her. I highly recommend Reverend Rapalyea not only as the fabulous teacher that she is, but also as an enlightened person - one who can assist those actively engaged with her, in a transformative process, which can only clarify and expand one's spiritual understanding of their life experience and purpose as reflected in this current lifetime. With deep gratitude and heartfelt blessings.

Cynthia has worked with me at various times over a decade as an instructor and co-presenter to provide valuable career advice to the general public, college students and working adults. Her years of experience in HR in different industries gives her particularly valuable insider knowledge that many coaches do not have. I continued to request her assistance because my experiences and those of others have been consistently positive. Additionally, I've appreciated her upbeat and caring approach to others and the challenges of life.

Kathie was my Health Coach in the summer and fall of 2017. Early on, she asked questions about what was going great in my life and what I wanted to improve. Kathie then worked with me to set realistic goals for myself. Each week during our coaching session, she had a well thought out approach to discussing my progress and coaching me to learn the importance of positive self talk and personal encouragement. In just 90 days time, I achieved a significant amount of progress towards my goals and I loved Kathie’s coaching style! Caryn

Katrina is a fantastic life coach! She has a very inviting and genuine personality. I felt comfortable talking to her almost immediately in our first session. Big or small, I feel like I can talk about anything that's going on in my life with Katrina. She always has time to "go into the weeds" with me and help understand what I am thinking. Not too long ago Katrina guided me through a major career change. I felt stuck where I was, and Katrina helped me to breakdown what I was going through and figure out what my true passions are. She got me to focus on what was important and we set goals that were both measurable and achievable. I am so much happier now, and I don't think I could have gotten here without Katrina's guidance. I would highly recommend Katrina as a life coach to anyone looking!

At the age 47 and a little out of shape, I needed to get in top physical shape for a police academy. (In New Jersey the age limit for police officers is 35, but there is no age limit for correction and sheriffs dept)...... so I new if I wanted this job in corrections, I had to be ready, and if anybody has been to any police academy, you know it's a para military atmosphere. Screaming at you from day one, not caring about your feelings. Their only concerns is that you will be physically and mentally strong in law enforcement environment. The first Day I walked in, I talked to Bob about my mental and physical weaknesses, and he told me not to worry, and to listen to everything he had to say moving forward. I literally felt at ease from that moment on. Now it wasn't always easy, Bob pushed my mental and physical abilities beyond I thought I could ever reach, and after 6 months of running, sprinting,spinning,rowing,pull-ups, push-ups, weight training, jump roap, etc., I found myself in the best physical and mental shape of my life. Bob is more than just a trainer, he is a trainer, a life coach, a friend, (and even an enemy, lol when he had to be). I am proud to say that on July 12, 2016 I graduated as a New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission corrections officer, cycle 29 and have been working in the jail ever since, and I couldn't be happier about my new career in law enforcement, but most of all, I couldn't of been happier about the choice I made walking into Bob's studio, because I know I could have never done it on my own. Sometimes in life we need a little help to get to the next level, and that's why I made the investment in myself to get to the next level with Bob Pelsang!!!!! Sincerely, S.C.O. T. Venezio

My experiences with Rick began a few years ago, when he began training/coaching me at a martial arts school where we practiced. I post this because simply knowing him has motivated me to be a better person in life. In the school, his directions were clear, concise. I liked that he was genuine, and never explained anything that he had not experienced himself. One trait that made him such a great coach, was his ability to detach, and take a look at challenges and obstacles from an outside perspective, that others may not be able to see. I have never seen him back down from an extreme challenge. Other traits that I noticed about him were his authentic positivity, and a ferocious determination to help others accomplish their goals, while at the same time being humble enough to listen to others and learn. I later came to realize that he is this way because he thrives on helping others perform to the best of their ability, and because he cares. I can always count on Rick, and I trust him. I'm fortunate that our paths somehow crossed in life. -Enrique Luna

I have known Shawntel for many years and for the past few years she's been very helpful in assisting me with making major decisions in my life. Her mission to help her clients "Step Into Your Life" is evident in the approach she uses. As a counselor/coach, she helps you to realize that it is in fact YOUR life and that you are responsible for it. While many times we may look to others for advice, guidance and/or validation, Shawntel asks the thought provoking questions that make you look into your inner self and answer these questions on your own. Her greatest quality is being a great listener. She never imposes on your thoughts or ideas or suggests you make any particular decision, but instead uses her training and techniques to help you assess the situation as a whole and make the decisions that are appropriate for you. Since she's been counseling me, I've gained greater confidence in my decision making abilities. I've begun pursuing an entrepreneurship opportunity that I've wanted to do for a while and am having great success. In addition, I've gained better control over my emotions and have been experiencing greater joy and fulfillment in my relationship than I have before. Prior to counseling with Shawntel, I used to tell my problems to several different people asking what they thought and based my decision on their responses, which did not always turn out in my favor. Now, I am more patient, I think more for myself and don't rush to take action. I do things unapologetically, stand behind my decisions and ONLY talk to Shawntel!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.
