Deedee was great! Unfortunately we were unable to conquer the dog chasing cat problem in our first 2 sessions but that may have had more to do with our cat being unresponsive to interacting with our dog. For the last 2 sessions, we worked on manners outside and we have had significant improvements in leash manners and people manners! Deedee gave us the tools necessary to continue working with our dog to continue to improve. Also, scooby doos house of play has a wide variety of options from train and board to personal lessons that we will utilize in the future to continue to conquer our puppy problems :) our dog was an 6 year old rescue so she can obviously help train out bad behaviors in older dogs too! Would go back if we ever decide to get another dog with behavioral issues. Thanks Deedee!

Rhonda has been our dog care person for several years now. She walks our two labs everyday while we are at work and even takes care of the fish in our pond. Her ability is remarkable and she is a good, kind, loving person.

Fetch came into my home to take my 2 dogs for walk or a busy weekend. The woman that took our dogs for a walk left me a note so I knew what they had done. I will be looking to hire Fetch again in the future.

Lynn walked my dog (Nala) every day I was at the hospital for the last three months. Not only did she take Nala for walks, but she would sit with her and give her some scratches and love before she left. She would frequently bring Nala toys and send me pictures during the day so I could see how my little girl was doing. She is very trustworthy, professional, and consistent so I would not hesitate to hire her again! I can't say enough great things about the service I was provided, as well as how great she is as a person. 5 stars!

When our dog reached 7 years of age, we used Tracy to stop by, to walk and let our dog out for bathroom breaks, while we were working. Tracy is very caring, trustworthy and reliable. Tracy would stop by when we were home, and our dog would be excited to see her! I wouldn't hesitate to utilize Tracy's services again.

Darlene is a delight to work with. I was at first nervous about leaving my 2 pups. They are bigger dogs and love attention. But after meeting with her and her correspondence while we were away, all worries melted away. The dogs seem to love her her and she's very good with them. Highly recommended.

Stephinie has been walking my dog, Arthur, every weekday for the past year and also boards him at her home when I'm out of town. I have a very hyper dog and Stephinie goes above and beyond to make sure he gets plenty of exercise. She runs/ hikes/ and plays fetch with him- he always comes back exhausted. She's also a dog trainer so she works on commands with him as well. Stephanie always comes on time and is super reliable.

Based on the recommendation of my veterinarian, who knew Dayton, I contracted with him for 6 weeks of training for a 5 month old German Shepherd. He helped me understand the breed and worked with us as the pup learned basic commands. I was so pleased with my progress with the pup that I contracted for 6 more lessons and later recommended him to a friend who had just rescued a 2 year old greyhound. Dayton obviously loves and respects dogs. He has endless patience for the dog and the owner and is able to clearly explain and demonstrate the lesson being taught. He is very generous with his time and knowledge and he guarantees his training. He is prompt to respond to messages and is always available to address training problems or issues that might develop after the class is over.

Melissa is an amazing trainer! She has been helping me train my dog, Boone, in nose work and without her help we wouldn't have made any progress as her hands on lessons made night and day difference. I can see a huge difference in my dogs confidence and in his ability to follow commands. Definitely would recommend V Force training for anyone looking to have fun and excel with creating a better bond with their dog!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
