FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Violin lesson rates are as follows: 30 minutes $35.00; 45 minutes $50.00; 60 minutes $65.00.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
If you have experience playing the violin, I'll ask you to prepare to play for me during our first lesson. I'll ask questions about what you know and what you don't know, what's challenging for you, and what's exciting. Hearing and watching you play allows me to assess what you know and what you don't know yet. We take it from there. No matter your level, I'll help you improve your violin playing technique, and we will build upon your skill-set. If you are new to the violin or new to music-- wonderful! This is a very exciting time! We'll get started with learning how to hold, play, and take care of your violin. During our first meeting, I'll ask some questions about general experience with or exposure to music. I'm curious about what inspired you to sign up for your first violin lesson.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an active and enthusiastic freelance musician. I hold concertmaster positions in eastern and western Pennsylvania. I perform professionally as a soloist and as a member of symphony orchestras, chamber groups, and new music ensembles. As a chamber musician, I am co-founder and member of Kamraton, and also a member of Cuarteto Bravo, and Three Rivers String Quartet. Performing is training. I teach at a high level because I perform at a high level. I am constantly reading, researching, watching, and listening to expand my understanding of violin playing and pedagogy, not only to improve my playing, but also to serve my students to the best of my ability. I look to the great violinists of the past for their explanations and gems of insight. Performing with and for colleagues, teachers, and friends, asking for feedback, sharing opinions and experiences through simple conversation, these are invaluable.
