Jack was absolutely wonderful with out pets. We have 4 of them, one of which is a 13 year old standard poodle who suffers from emotional detachment disorder every time we leave him, even for a day. He loved Jack, and our Yorkie could not wait to see him everyday! I felt so confident and comfortable for the first time ever leaving our pets with a pet sitter. We also have 2 cats which were so much calmer when we returned than normal. We have already hired Jack for 2 more vacations and have recommended him to a friend as well. We can not thank him enough!

I am so glad that I found Sara. She is my new go-to dog sitter! I took my dog over to her home and she was immediately at ease, running around in the fenced back yard. Sara watched my dog for three days and did great. Sara was able to give her space separated from her other dogs, which I had requested because my dog is sometimes skittish. When I picked my dog up, she was calm and happy, which is not usually the case (usually seems freaked out when I go away). I think Sara really put her at ease. I look forward to having Sara dog sit for me again!

Debbie took great care of my pet cat (and house!) when I went away for a 5 day vacation in August, and I would absolutely use her again and again in the future. The things about Debbie and her services that impressed me the most: she was very reliable, very competent, very trustworthy, and very flexible with her scheduling to suit my needs. Now what more can a pet owner ask for in a pet sitter?! She is like “the perfect” pet sitter in each of those categories. I will say that because I had never needed a pet sitter before, I was reluctant to give a “stranger” a key to my house and to trust them to take care of my cat and to stay in my house while I was in another state, but after meeting with Debbie for a while I just knew she would treat my pet and my home with the finest of care and she did just that. I can say without a doubt that knowing Debbie was “in charge” of my cat (and even my house in the unlikely event a pipe broke or something while I was away…an added bonus!) truly allowed me to enjoy my vacation so much more; I honestly felt as if a family member or close friend was taking care of things and that was priceless. Debbie did an A+ job and I am so happy to now have a great pet sitter when I need one!

Liz was very professional and caring with my cats. She got 2 of my feral cats to come out which they usually never do for New visitors. She sent me pictures everyday while I was away. She even did a few extra things like taking the trash out and she sent me pictures of my cats everyday while I was away which I loved. Great pet sitter and person.

Peggy was absolutely amazing with my teacup Yorkie Rocky! She went beyond expectations! She watched Rocky multiple times and even kept him over night at her house for a few days. She always made sure that Rocky was happy and that he had plenty of time to play and run around. Took him on long walks, bought him treats and even got him some new toys! I could tell that my dog adored her and he was always so excited to see her! I would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a pet sitter! Kim

I used Jordan as my pet sitter while i vacationed at the beach for a week and she did a wonderful job. It seemed like my little Papillon was so happy there with her and got a ton of attention and got spoiled, which i think was needed considering also a new baby at home which my dog isn't quite used to yet. i would certainly use Jordan again in the future and would recommend her to others as well.

Kayla is awesome! We enrolled our two and a half month old Doberman Pinscher puppy in training classes learning how to do basic comands. She is very flexible with our schedule and we meet at a local park to do our training. Kayla connected with our puppy immediately. After our first class she was successful in teaching our dog the basic sit and stay. She really focuses on us the owners how to teach our puppy the correct way to train our dog. We have had a total of four classes and we have been successful in teaching our dog sit, stay, lay, come, paw, heel, long leash training and walk wonderfully on a leash! Since we meet at a local park there are lots of distractions like people, children, other dogs and even a horse and she was able to keep his attention and keep him focused on the tasks at hand. I would recommend her to anyone! I wish I knew about her sooner for my other pups!

Donna is professional, punctual, attentive and absolutely wonderful with my pups! They immediately bonded with her and she with them! She took great care of them while I went on a business trip, and administered their meds as directed. Carol is an excellent pet sitter. She cares for my cat as if he was her own. She pays attention to detail in my cats moods, manners, eating habits and health. I get calls and messages if something comes up & a full report after I have returned home from my trips. My cat loves her!

About

I'm a responsible individual who loves working with animals. After ending my time in the Marine Corps, I started school in the local area. I work with horses and dogs, and have been involved in training dogs for several years. I love all animals; I've volunteered at an equestrian center, interned at a veterinary hospital, and worked at a pet store in high school. I've surrounded myself with animals my entire life, and just love being around them.

About

I am not doing this job for just a pay check. I sincerely LOVE all animals. To me, it is a win win situation. I get paid to do exactly what I love. My goal is to make you as the customer happy, as well as your beloved pet. If I see something odd behavior wise or if thier poop looks unusual, I will certainly let you know. I would never just not tell that there may or may not be something wrong with your pet. I will also scoop your yard for a small extra fee. I know its a dirty job, so why not let me do it!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32.
