If you are looking for professionalism, excellent work and superior customer service, then Bob is your man. Bob was extremely meticulous, not only with mounting my television (which included installing a new outlet and of course concealing the wires within the wall) but also with his prep and final clean up. I was impressed with not only his stellar job on the mount but also his exceptional knowledge in regard to troubleshooting other household repairs. Bob was easy to talk to and provided sound advice across the board. I would not only recommend Bob for TV mounts but for any household challenges you may have. It is really hard to find good help these days and you definitely get that when Bob is on the job.

Bill and his team did the bathroom renovation in my apartment and it turned out beautiful! They were quick, efficient and clean. He replaced a part of the ceiling at his own discretion after seeing that it wasn't up to standards, and when we had a caulk issue a few days later he came right back the next day to fix it. We originally saw his work in the apartment upstairs from ours and the work was just as excellent. His team also replaced a fan and electrical outlets in my apartment in a timely manner. I would recommend him and his team for any household needs you may have.

Jim and the team were very responsive, working us in today because we had a household "emergency". Jim did an excellent job cleaning the gutters and downspouts, including approaching a neighbor to ask to borrow his hose. We would definitely use JKR Services again if the need arises.

My wife and I had a 2 major remodelling projects done to our house. We had a major kitchen upgrade and then had our family room completely overhauled...there was a mess everywhere. We had a red brick wall, in the family room, downsized. There was red brick dust everywhere. La Bella Cleaning Service came in and after 3 to 4 to almost 5 hours our house was like new. The Staff was fantastic in their dedication to detail. This was "a gift" to my wife...a one time only clean up at a very acceptable bid price but now I think we are close to contracting with LaBella Cleaning Service (Rochelle) to have Her clean from September to June. (My wife teaches school and would clean during the summer months...this was not an issue with Rochelle.) Rochelle stopped by the house (even after providing an upfront i-time only cleaning bid on Thumbtack) and took detailed notes on my requests. I feel all of my requests were met and I couldn't be happier with the service. I would recommend LaBella Cleaning Service as a one time clean up or as a monthly service because of Her (and Her Staff's) professionalism. I am very pleased with this experience but more importantly my wife was ecstatic!!

I would def recommend this company to assemble any household things, etc. The company responded to me very quickly with a quote online and communicated with me frequently to my questions. They also were very punctual for arrival to my house. The price was affordable and they did an amazing job assembling my kitchen cupboard/hutch.

After 18 years in construction as a painter, a carpenter, and as a contractor, recently I came across an apartment rehab from hell! MMGC came through for me and we pulled off a very difficult job on time with no hassle. Anthony made sure everything was done correctly and thoroughly and what I thought would be a nightmare went far better than expected. I would certainly recommend them and I will be using their services again in the future.

I had to have a pipe replaced, my tub caulked, a couple of light switched replaced, and he fixed my storm door and tighten up my sink in the bathroom. Winston was very professional and reasonable. I would recommend him for your household repairs and I will use him again.

Keyanna was early in arrival. She also has three other helpers. The whole team is made of pleasant hardworking and punctual people. They used cleaning products that smelled good but nothing to strong. I really liked how they brought their own supplies! They work fast yet efficient. Flexible in scheduling also! They respond positively to criticism. I would hire them again and absolutely refer them to others.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

    • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
    • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
      • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
    • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

    What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor.
