A C Landscaping was hired to remove snow from my driveway sidewalk and walkways during the 2 storms we had in February of 2017 in Belmont. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they performed in a highly professional manner as evidenced by their removing all the snow. I believe that the Owner has a very strong work ethic and is very responsive to customer needs. I definitely intend to use them again in the future as the need arises. Brendan V. My walkway from the driveway to the front step had loose flagstones and missing flagstones, and the job was to fill in the cement depressions where the missing flagstones had been and to secure or remove and fill in for loose flagstones, including on the step, and also to fill in cracks. Douglas came right on time both to meet with me about an estimate and to do the job. He was very pleasant to deal with. There was no mess at all after the job was done. The repair looks like it will last a long time. One of the goals was keep snow or water from forming ice in the missing flagstones areas to avoid slipping there, and another goal was to ease shoveling by having a more even surface; shoveling after the recent snowstorm was much easier.

I hired Dan tonight to plow my driveway and clear the walkway and steps following the storm. He responded to my quote request on Thumbtack within minutes. I was stuck at work all evening and was unable to shovel. He promptly arrived at my house and called me at work with a quote. Very grateful to come home to a clear driveway and entryway, and glad I didn't have to start shoveling at 11pm! Dan was efficient and friendly, and I will absolutely be calling him again. THANK YOU, DAN!

Great job at a great price. I love the retaining wall and concrete walk Fernando and the team at Disere construction did at my home. I needed a retaining wall to keep water from running into my driveway, even in the dead of winter they came out and built more than just a functioning wall, they created art! We couldn't be happier!

Great! We had new baseboards Installed. Arrived when they said they would. Did quality detailed work, were very neat, took care not to affect other areas of the home, by using drop cloths. Cleaned, swept the driveway and vacuumed the home when they were complete.

Steven helped us make some good decisions about our driveway that we hadn't considered. He and his men were on time, courteous, and cleaned up after themselves. His pricing was fair and he returned our calls right away. The driveway came out great and we have already scheduled another project for next summer!

Goody's has done several things at my house and I've always been very happy with the results! Darren mows the lawn but also put up a 6' fence for me last year (fencing in the back yard) and built a really nice paver patio for me two years ago. He's very responsive and I can always reach him on his cell when I need something. In the winter I usually snowblow my own driveway but during very bad storms I've asked him to plow for me and he's always willing to come by and help! I'd highly recommend Darren and Goody's!

I've been working with James @Triple J for about five years. He's done everything from masonry work repairing my foundation and chimney to yard clean-ups. The most recent work he's done for me have been major yard renovations starting with a new front walkway in brick pavers (herringbone pattern which he suggested) which was completed in the fall of 2017. During his work on this project he also removed the weeds and turn at the end of my driveway and replaced it with pea stone. This August, he stripped the crabgrass and top layer of my lawn and replaced it with sod. He cleaned up each garden bed, moved plants around for better flow, used a large stone found in my yard as a focal point in the front, mulched each bed, and finally, put up a new stockade fence we lost during the 2018 Noreaster. James is always on time for quotes and meetings, communicates often, provides ideas and solutions, and he and his crew are great to work with when they're on site. Anytime I need something done, I check with James first.

Working with Al, Bill and Danny was awesome. We needed a new driveway channel drain and some grading issue in our driveway fixed. Al gave me a very competitive quote in a very timely manner. Once we agreed to the scope of the project the guys knocked it out of the park. They always communicated the steps along the way and ensured we understood. The new drain not only looks great but is top of the line. The new grading to the driveway will definitely solve most of our water issues. The guys were timely, friendly and very professional. I would hire Al and crew for any work I needed done, and will definitely talk to Al when the wife and I are ready to put in the paver patio (our next project). Thanks so much Al and crew! We are extremely happy with the work.

We have nothing but amazing things to say about John and his crew. He came out on time, gave us a really good quote for redoing our driveway and a part of our yard, and scheduled a day to start as soon as we decided to move forward. Even went to pick up all the permits needed. He always got back to us in a prompt manner and kept a clear line of communication throughout the process (scheduling, demo, etc.) He's also incredibly friendly and courteous, which we can all appreciate. Our driveway looks AWESOME and we couldn't be happier. If you're looking around for a company/crew to handle a paving job, seriously look no further. Scottop Paving is the best!

Hi called Paul after he responded to my inquiry on Thumbtack about needing snow removal services. Our Dorchester condo parking lot was packed with snow and we needed it cleared out so we could resume a construction project that had been halted by the heavy snow. I called Paul on Thursday, and he showed up Monday morning as promised, with his Bobcat and dump truck. The job took 8 hours to complete, but at the end of it not just the large piles of snow were gone - they also removed the rock hard ice from our driveway, shoveled out the construction material that were buried in the parking lot, and helped me shovel out mounds of snow from around the base of the building. I was very impressed with his professional attitude and his helpfulness. I wholeheartedly recommend him to other clients.

Our driveway looks brand new! The company showed up on time; and carefully prepared the surface before applying the seal coat. They were very responsive to repairing the cracks, neat and very thorough and professsional. The product they use was excellent. We will call them back every years as recommended to reseal our driveway.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
    • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
    • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
    • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
    • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
    • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

    What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.
