Very pleased with Curtis' work. He fixed our mold problem from a flooded basement. He started right away and was done in about 4 days--time needed to scrub the air and paint surfaces with mold killer. Curtis was super helpful in getting at all the problem spots, even ones I didn't know about, hauling out the furniture, and putting us in touch with others to help restore the room. I couldn't be more pleased. I highly recommend him for mold removal and restoration.

Dealing with Marco was a dream. We hired his team to deal with a terrible peeling lead paint problem on the exterior of our 1920s home. Marco was professional and knowledgeable from the moment he arrived to look at the job and was proactive in pointing out things that needed to be done. He gave us a very competitive price and the team worked quickly and efficiently to remove the old paint, fix rotted trim, replace gutters and repaint the whole house. Marco recommended powerwashing the deck and garage while we were at it and I'm so glad we did. The crew was professional and cleaned up after themselves at the end of each day. No qualms about touching up anything that we pointed out. The house looks 50 years younger and after dealing with inside renovations over several years I can say its hard to find a contractor like Marco who shows up when they say they will and does what they promise. I wish I had more things to paint - I would hire this company again in a heartbeat.

Dave and his crew helped me with an emergency project (drywall damage by water and mold). Dave was able to come to my place and gave me appraisal in short period of time. The project was started right away. Dave and his team were able to point out the source my problem and give me a solution. Great communication, highly professional team. Customers' satisfaction is one of the main goals.

We decided to get 3 estimates for the removal of mold from our bathroom wall and ceiling. All 3 companies were professional. In the end we were just more comfortable with MA Mold Pros and Patrick Ahearn. MA Mold Pros price was a bit lower than the others. They recommended exactly what we needed to have done with no up sell extras we didn't need. We were especially pleased with how respectful of our property they were. They protected the area they worked in and cleaned up ever speck of dust and dirt afterward. They were also able to complete the job in 1 day. I am happy to say we are now mold free. Thank you Patrick & Crew.

Joan D. from Attleboro, MA. I had attic mold. I called Steven with New England Property Services Group after experiences with 2 roofers and 2 mold companies. Both roofers wanted to remove half of my roof and replace it. Both mold companies sent young representatives, kind, but without much experience. Their job was to get the contract signed, they showed pictures from previous jobs the company contracted with, but were not able to adequately answer my questions. Steven was the third mold person to come to our home. He was the only one who was happy to have us follow him into the attic so he could better explain the possible causes of the mold and how to satisfactory treat the attic. He was never in a hurry, gave us all the time to answer all of our concerns. His team arrived on time, cleaned up when finished and overall did a good job. Recently, I was having a bathroom remodeled and with demolition, mold was found on an outside wall. I called Steve, he came the next day to evaluate and treat. Very satisfied with New England Property Services.

Florian removed a 30 foot hose choked with soaked lint and installed a correctly sized vent hose. My vent flaps are standing straight out, clothes are drying properly, and my wife is happy.

Jason was extremely professional, prompt to answer and available the next day. He gave us a very knowledgeable assessment of the area that was concerning to us and spent 30 minutes explaining to us the problem even though it meant that we didn't need his company's services anymore because we didn't have mold. Another company was on the contrary happy to charge us 3000$ to clean out the area even though they wouldn't say whether it was mold or not. We really appreciated the knowledge and the honesty of Indoor Environmental and will use them next time we worry about mold.

We own a summer home in Rockport, Ma. Shortly after purchasing the home we noticed a horrible musty smell coming from the basement and several rooms in the house. Needless to say we were very concerned about mold and even more so because we have young children with severe allergies. After a quick internet search I came across "Indoor Doctor" and had them come out to do an assessment. Jeff was very thorough in going through the enire house doing a visual inspection as well as air quality testing. I felt extremely confident in his abilities to accurately assess what was going on with our house. He explained everything to us in a non alarming way and told us we would have our results back in about a week or so. Couldn't have been happier with this company! We have since had a mold remediation done (totally separate company) and then installed an EZ breathe system with great results! I would like to add the fact that we had similar air testing done for our home in NY with a different company and didn't have NEARLY the same experience as we did with Jeff! Although he could t travel to NY he was extremely helpful in guiding us through the entire process and telling us what needed to be done (although without expecting extra payment from us!) Very professional but also truly cares about his clients:)

I did not actually have restorepro do the work (yet!) but I'm a realtor and needed a quick estimate for my clients for mold removal. Restorepro responded on a holiday weekend and go out there the next day. My clients were pleased will be in touch with them about the work after they close on their new house.

I called Mike due to sitting water in basement, when electricity went out, and sump would work, during two of our March storms. He called back promptly and in discussing my needs, he politely told me I didn't need him, I just needed a simple product he suggested and I am having my handyman spray the concrete and scrub it, for a fraction of what his, or any other mold services would have cost. I knew it wasn't severe, but I was impressed by his professionalism in sharing what to do without charging me for his advice. If I ever have a bigger mold issue I will definitely call Mike!

Donny Lambert was unbelievably helpful and supportive in helping me sort through a leak from the bathroom above mine. It is going to be a matter of getting reimbursed after a lawsuit, unfortunately, and he provided information and paperwork to back up that process for me. I am in much better shape going forward to present my case after having Bona Fide do their testing and with Donny’s subsequent report. I’d refer them to absolutely anyone who wants to deal with professional, ethical and honest people that you can trust. They don’t remediate any mold levels that are problematic , so there’s no conflict of interest there. Great company! Highly recommend them!

we had a mold issue in our attic for some time, we were referred to Universal through a friend, They came out and took a look, told us they could treat the problem, but also suggested to properly ventilate the attic to assure it will not happen again. The mold was removed, and we haven't had the issue since almost a year ago. Carmine G

In regards to the mold in my basement and attic. Kerry was very professional and his price for the mold remediation was very fair. I had a few quotes from several other companies, who's prices were very high. Kerry finished on time as he quoted and was detailed on his applications and removal process.

We had Christopher clean the ducts on our old drier. He was great! He answered all of our questions, and replaced the faulty parts right not he spot! I will absolutely use his services for all the other vent work that needs to be done at our house or at my studio.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How is a mold test done?

Mold testing can help identify a mold infestation in your home or business. Mold inspection costs can vary based on the type of test you want done and the number of samples you request. The national average mold inspection cost is $250-$300. The EPA explains that if you have a visible mold problem, in most cases sampling and testing is unnecessary. However, if you have unexplained and potential mold-related illness or can smell mold in your house, mold inspection costs may be a good investment. To avoid unscrupulous testers, the EPA recommends working with a testing agency that adheres to the analytical methods laid out by professional organizations such as the American Industrial Hygiene Association or the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists. Mold inspection costs can vary based on the type of testing done. Prices can also vary, depending on the size of the home, the number of surface areas to be tested, and the extent of the mold infestation. Here are some examples of mold inspection average costs:

          • Swab testing: $200-$300
            • A professional collects a surface swab from a potentially infested area for testing in a lab. Some professionals have concerns about this being the sole test done because it only gathers a small amount of data from a certain area of the house. That’s why it’s frequently done in conjunction with air cell testing.
          • Air cell testing: $250-$350
            • A professional collects an air sample in the home to measure the amount of mold spores in the air. This test is frequently done in conjunction with swab testing to ensure more complete data. Costs are higher for this test because the equipment required of the contractor is more expensive.
          • Both air cell and swab tests provided by the same company: $400-$600.

          How does mold remediation work?

Mold remediation can eliminate mold colonies from your home or business. Mold is a normal part of daily life, but in wet or humid settings mold can quickly colonize and spread by making spores. Whether visible or hidden, untreated mold can cause real health problems and cause extensive (and expensive) damage to your property. Mold remediation involves killing the mold, removing the dead mold and preventing future mold growth. Here is an example of the steps involved in professional mold remediation:

          • Contain work area and apply negative air pressure HEPA air purifiers to prevent cross-contamination. If spores spread, the colonies can easily regrow elsewhere in your home.
          • Mist an EPA-registered antimicrobial to suspend and kill mold spores.
          • Remove affected building surfaces.
          • Bag and dispose of contaminated materials properly.
          • Treat cavities/underlayment and dehumidify.
          • Abrasively remove dead loose mold.
          • Apply EPA-registered protective sealer.
          • Perform clearance testing.

          Remove containment materials.

          What is a mold remediation?

Mold remediation is the process of identifying and removing unhealthy levels of mold that have colonized in a home, office, school or other building. Over time, if untreated, mold can destroy a home by breaking down cellulose-based materials (like wood or ceiling tiles) and causing a slow and messy decay. In the shorter term, a mold infestation can cause severe health problems. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), mold can trigger respiratory problems, nasal and sinus congestion, eye irritation, nose or throat irritation, skin irritations, problems with your nervous system, and aches and pains. Mold inspection and mold remediation are often requested in tandem, although they are two separate services. Nationally, mold inspection costs range from $250 to $300. If mold has been positively identified in your house, either by visual examination or through mold testing, remediation can safely remove it. Properly trained and equipped professionals use specialized equipment (like vacuums and air scrubbers with HEPA filters) to keep mold spores contained while they remove contaminated materials and treat infested areas with antimicrobial spray. A key component to a successful mold remediation after eliminating the mold is ensuring that the water source that caused the mold infestation is also resolved.

          Can mold grow behind drywall?

Mold can grow behind drywall, in your attic, in the basement, under floors — mold can grow anywhere. The key to controlling mold is controlling moisture and water. If your home has been exposed to excessive water due to flooding or heavy rains, if you have an old home with leaky pipes, or if you live in an area with high humidity, you need to be vigilant about mold. Mold is most easily identified by sight. You may see blooms of mold on furniture, on walls, or along the floor. If you can spot mold, you probably don’t need to test for it and can save on mold inspection costs and direct your energies towards mold remediation. But if you’re not certain, you may need a pro to help you determine whether you have hidden mold. Scent and illness are two potential signs of hidden mold. You may smell anything from a musty earth scent to a foul stench, and you may experience respiratory problems, nasal and sinus congestion, eye irritation, nose or throat irritation, skin irritation, problems with your nervous system, or aches and pains. The national average cost of mold inspection and testing is $250-$300.

How long does it take to get rid of mold in a house?

You can never completely remove mold from your house; a small number of mold spores will always exist indoors and are a natural and helpful part of our world. However, if water or moisture is left unchecked inside your home and mold begins to colonize, it can pose a serious health risk. Mold remediation can quickly and safely remove a mold infestation from your home or office. Depending on the size of your problem, mold remediation might take anywhere from one to seven days (or more) to wipe out the major sources of mold in your home.

Mold growths (colonies) can establish within 24-48 hours, so it is important to act immediately if you have a water spill or leak — especially if you live in a hot or humid climate. If you are past the point of DIY and need professional help, mold remediation teams will come to your location, assess the extent of the mold problem, identify and rectify all water leaks and sources of dampness, identify all mold sources (both visible and hidden), use specialized equipment to contain and prevent migration of mold spores, safely remove contaminated materials, treat infested areas with approved antimicrobial sprays, dehumidify and dry the appropriate areas, and seal areas as needed.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
