Chef Laurie took my Charleston Spoleto experience to the next level this year during the Sunset Serenade on the steps of the historic Custom House. For those of you familiar with Charleston, you know just how special of an event this can be. Add on top of this that Chef Laurie created ambiance, comfortable seating and delicious treats for our palates, the night is going to be hard to top. To set the mood, we had a table that was the perfect height, draped in a tablecloth with matching napkins for everyone (to boot!) and votive candles. Perfect lighting for when the sun set. The icing on the cake were the sunflowers that provided a pop of color to the table. Segue into the food and I only have one word - delicious! From the homemade bread and artisanal cheese, crackers and cookies, as well as fresh sandwiches (with more homemade bread, yum), we managed to please all of our senses at this year's signature Spoleto event. And I'm not going to lie, we had quite a few compliments from our surrounding neighbors as to the quality of our set up. I'll bet we see a lot more of this custom catering at next year's event. Glad to see we started this trend with the help of Chef Laurie! :)

I ordered a deep fried chicken, rice and roasted vegetable dish for a meeting at work from Lowcountry Creole Culinaire Catering. The delivery was punctual, Chef Frisco went the extra mile to cut up the chicken. Most importantly, the food was fabulous. The meal was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at the meeting. I WILL be using Lowcountry Creole Culinaire Catering for ALL of my catering needs and would highly recommend them. The food was outstanding and so was the service.

Chef Jay was amazing. She drove all the way to Savannah from Charleston to teach us how to cook a southern meal. She taught a private class for 6 of us at our AirBnB. She brought everything with her and we didn’t have to worry about any of the ingredients! One of the girls was vegan and Chef Jay was able to adjust three components of the meal to make sure she could eat. The food we made was delicious (the fried chicken was juicy and crispy, the candied yams were to die for, and the best cornbread and collard greens I’ve ever had) and Chef Jay was patient, funny, and kind. I could not have asked for a better cooking lesson experience.

We hired Joyce to bartend at a local event in Charleston. Not knowing a lot about catering/bartending myself, she brought every thing I needed and was ready to help out in any way! Very friendly and great with our clients as well. Highly recommend!

Where do I start with Citrus Catering...This catering company is one of the most professional catering companies I have had hired over the years. With most catering companies you worry about how constant they give great professional services, presentation and most importantly great tasting food. My family and friends raved about how great the food was. We had nothing left over. The personal those that was proved during my Hight Tea bridal shower really went above and beyond by expectations. I had several people requesting their services. I just loved it so much that I used them again for my baby shower. Again the personal touches to my custom menus were amazing and the food and presentation was beautiful and delicious. Not a lot of catering company and pride themselves on the presentation that they present with the theme for a private party. But this catering company always seems to deliver to match. I'm in Love with their level of service and great food.

I have a lot of experience with personal chefs and caterers. Sarah is by far the best chef I have ever hired. Usually catered food doesn't cut the mustard for my food savy guests, but with her years of experience at Charlestons best restaurants she blew us all away. I keep dreaming about the lettuce wraps! She was great with our guests, a true pleassure to be around. I will literally never hire another personal chef again. Rumor has it that she is also shooting a pilot for her own show with the food network...

I hired this amazing company to cater my husband's retirement party. We had close to 200 people in attendance. Our guests could not stop talking about how delicious the food was and how fast they were served. Each person received a generous portion. Chef Chika did a jaw dropping fruit display. The desserts where homemade and so yummy. Several people asked for her card to cater their next event. I am hosting a party in September and I'm not sure who will be the caterer. Just kidding. A lLttle Taste of Heaven has already been booked.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

    • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
    • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
    • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
    • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
    • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
