I can't recommend Lori and Rick enough! They are honest people and extremely professional. For six years now, they have cared for my 'pack' of dogs. My dogs LOVE them! Sometimes I think my dogs are sad when they have to leave 'Camp Gazaway' because they are treated wtih such love and affection they don't want it to end. Also, more recently, Rick has been house sitting for us and staying the night. The dogs enjoy the routine of home and we feel better knowing that the home is being watched over. Rick leaves the house in perfect condition. I even keep a spare key with them because I know that in any kind of emergency, I can count on them to help. They're the best!

She's great! Very conscientious and truly loves animals. We had an older lab that could not be kenneled because of his hips. Charlotte stayed with him overnight for extended periods many times and on occasion would do day visits. Whenever she stayed overnight my house would be cleaner than when I left. Very trustworthy. Will keep our new puppy in the future!

Tracy was wonderful! She came to the house 4 times a day to let my dog, Dora out. Dora is not used to being alone and Tracy made her feel so loved and comfortable. She sent me pictures and updates and put my mind at ease the entire time I was gone. Not only did she let Dora out but she spent time playing with her (and her daughter was Dora's instant friend. :)). I will definitely use Posh Pooched again and highly recommend Tracy!

      About

With over 20 years of loving experience owning my own pet sitting service, first in Boston for 10 years and now in Hendersonville, NC, for the last 11, I still love every opportunity I have to take care of pets. I do small dog boarding in my home in a fenced-in l/2 acre lot or in your home. I also walk dogs, visit/play with your cat, give insulin injections, fluids under the skin or whatever medications your animal may need. When you call I will set up a free initial meeting with you where I can take an in-depth history of your animal and its needs. Additionally, I can provide excellent references from people whose animals I am presently taking care of on an ongoing basis.

      About

Hey guys, my name is Rachel and here are a few things to get to know me better. I'm an Animal and Veterinary Sciences major with a prevet concentration; since I was a child I have been caring for dogs of all shapes and sizes. My pets have always been an immense part of my life and have greatly impacted my career path, and have pushed me to spend time volunteering at local animal shelters to help the pets who have yet to find loving homes. I am the parent to a 1-year-old Huskimo named Ava and I love taking her hiking, to the dog park, to the lake, or simply running around the neighborhood. I value her exercise, exposure to the outdoors, and overall wellbeing, which is the basis of care I hope to provide to other beloved pets as well.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

      • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
      • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
      • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
