Armando Hinojosa says, "Working with New Start Nutrition Consulting and its owner, Gabriel, has truly been a life-changing experience for me! When I first reached out to Gabriel for help, I was feeling stuck and overwhelmed with my health journey. But from our very first conversation, I knew I was in good hands.Under Gabriel's guidance, I've achieved results that I never thought possible. Before working with him, I struggled with low energy levels and digestive issues that made it hard for me to enjoy life to the fullest. However, thanks to Gabriel's personalized approach and expert advice, I've experienced a significant improvement in both areas. I feel more energized and vibrant than ever before, and my digestion has never been better! What makes Gabriel stand out is his professionalism, expertise, and genuine care for his clients. Despite being a one-man show, he goes above and beyond to ensure that each client receives the attention and support they need to succeed. He took the time to listen to my concerns and tailored his recommendations to fit my unique needs and goals. But perhaps what I appreciate most about working with Gabriel is the personal connection we've developed along the way. He's been there for me every step of the journey, offering encouragement, support, and practical advice to help me stay on track. If you're hesitant about seeking help from a nutritionist, I completely understand. I had my doubts too. But working with Gabriel at New Start Nutrition Consulting has been one of the best decisions I've ever made for my health. If you're ready to make a positive change in your life, I highly recommend reaching out to him. You won't regret it!"See more

Byron C. says, "Alan Rizo has been my Fitness Trainer at The Matrix Fitness Gym in Palm Desert for about 8 months now. After my first six months 3 days a week, I lost 6” off the waist from 42” to 36” and down only 12 pounds. I did not realize I was obese with over 40” waist? My results were better and much more than I expected being over 50 years old! I mainly went to because of “off and on” swollen knee pain and to avoid knee surgery, but I got a lot more than that! It took 4 months to strengthen and fix the knees without surgery and they are back to normal! I heard about that before, and it worked for me. It’s a miracle..... Now I’m going on my 9th month, and now my blood pressure, cholesterol, etc., is all lowered to perfect levels. I feel more relaxed and sleep much better too. Eight years of bad knees are completely strengthened and healed with no more swollen pain and No surgery! I’m glad I never went to the doctor about my bad knees, that are now good! And all my excess fat is gone, no more obesity, down to 34” waist, 190lbs, muscular build at 6’2”, and I’m now in the best shape of my life and feeling great! The only problem is, I have to buy all new smaller clothes. My family & friends notice a big difference. My new nick name is “Bone Crusher Byron”. If I was in my 20’s, I’d be ready for the UFC! Alan told me in the beginning I’d feel great after a while, and he was right! I’m glad I found The Matrix Fit Gym with professional fitness trainers to help me attain my fitness goals! There is no way I could do it by myself. I will admit, the first few months were very tough, and now I’m very happy I did not quit, because now it’s easy, fun, and rewarding! Everyone needs a fitness trainer."See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.
