Very helpful with suggestions & ideas during the pre-wedding meetings & very easy to work with. She provides so much at such a reasonable price.

I love love love the outstanding job Shannon did painting my living room, dining room and entryway! She is a paint color consultant expert selecting the best colors that enhanced my home decor giving it the wow factor I was looking for. Shannon takes such pride in her work and it showed in the detailed work she did in my home. She went above and beyond what I hired her to do by patching screws displayed in my ceiling, painting over scuff marks on doors and providing a tutorial on how to paint around trim without tape. Shannon is friendly, kind and trustworthy. Plus her fee was very reasonable. I'm very glad that I hired her!

Jenny Weir and Decorating Den did a magnificent job helping me give my house a seriously needed facelift. New paint colors were chosen that had not even crossed my mind. A beautiful rug was purchased because Jenny knew just what I was looking for despite that I had narrowed it down to two others! My existing furniture was updated with a simple paint change and eventually I wasn't making a decorating desicion without input! They are available when you need them, full of fantastic ideas and know how to make you feel like a friend, not just a client.

We hired BF Designs from an ad we saw online. I was completely skeptical but Amber scheduled a consultation and I was sold. We initially only wanted a few balloon arches but after meeting her we sat back and allowed her to decorate the whole party. My guest were so impressed that she couldn't hand out cards fast enough. I will definitely use her again for future events

We are so glad to have chosen Elegance Simplified as our wedding decorator. Our wedding decorator was Renee. She is truly blessed with creativity and patience. During our planning, Rene was always available to new ideas, changes, and suggestions. She was punctual on getting our calls back and responding to any of our questions in a timely manner. We loved how she was super organized and treated us with professionalism. We maintain in contact multiple times by phone and email and she had everything in place! Before our wedding day, we met multiple times in person and worked together to ensure each detail was thought of. Rene went far and beyond when she met with me at the reception venue to view the layout in person and THAT meant a lot to me!!! Even though I had up and downs on my budget, Rene was able to make things work for us. She knew how to handle our situation and no matter what she worked really hard to make our day sweet and special. I'm thankful for everything they did for us on our special day! I recommend Elegance simplified to anyone! Thank you so much helping us through the entire process. It was truly fun!

I contacted Zach to help update my living room. I was so pleased with the results that I ended up having him design my entire downstairs living area! Zach was incredibly easy to work with. He had great ideas, and paid attention to my personal style and budget. Zach masterfully managed every step of the design process from creating the initial vision to the final install. If you're looking for an interior decorator, I HIGHLY recommend using Zach.

Tamera came to do a staging session with my husband and me. We are selling our house and downsizing. She went meticulously room by room and told us what needed to be done in each room (paint, leave up/take down pictures, flooring, kinds of furniture, etc). She was very patient and detailed. She did a great job telling us what we needed to do for our house to be staged perfectly. I even had her come to my Design Center appointment to help me pick out my granite, backsplash, floor, tiles, etc. for my new home. Tamera is truly a professional! She truly made a difference for us!

I was so impressed with Courtney! She helped me transition my dated downstairs into a more modern and clean looking living space. She picked a perfect gray tone for my walls (SW amazing gray) that worked with my existing cabinets, countertops, floors and a lot of my own decor. She helped me chose several new pieces to tie it all together! She had such an eye for arranging my bookshelves and used some old and some new to totally transform the look. She even came by and moves a few things around which made such a difference. I love my new space thanks to her!

Where can I start but by saying Yari Jones was creative, patient, and superior! Anyone who can help decorate a room from a whole different state is nothing but these three things. I live in TX and she viewed my nursery once. After she received the dimensions there was no stopping her creativity. She stayed in contact with me via e-mail the whole time, and got back to me in a reasonable time. Everything she e-mailed me for the nursery, I loved! Not one item I did not like. If I told her it was out of my price range, she did not argue but e-mailed me something else that was just as beautiful but in my price range. It feels good when people come visit your first baby and the first thing they say is, "I love your nursery," rather than commenting on the baby first. lol She adapts, she listens, and exceeds your expectations. I plan on using her again for my play room.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this company. She planned my daughter's birthday as if it were her own. The detail was impeccable on the decorations, invitations, even the food menu. I was able to enjoy the day worry and stress free.

The question is not "Why would you use Cheryl Draa?" but rather "Why would you NOT use her!?" Easy to work with and really listens to what you're telling her. Not afraid to help you go outside your comfort zone and take some calculated risks which you end up loving even more than the things that are within your comfort zone! Cheryl is like an addiction. Once you start to use her talents, you can't stop until you run out of things for her to decorate. At that point, you have to switch to Christmas decorations (a HUGE benefit that keeps "giving" year after year) or you have to buy a bigger house! I've referred Cheryl to some of my friends and they too have been pleased with the initial results and keep coming back for more. Really, she's like crack....but in a good way! ;) Why waste/spend $50 - $100 on some random "tchotchkes" for your house that will look odd after a few purchases when you can INVEST in your house's aesthetic value and use Cheryl Draa and it will look like a million bucks without spending anything near that?! Give her a budget and she'll make the best use of that budget to make your home look like a desigerner showcase!

Joi and her crew traveled to cater and decorate my sister's baby shower! Joi's professionalism and hospitality overwhelmed us and made that one of the most memorable days of our lives. My sister literally cried when she walked in to see the space decorated so beautifully with personalized bottles, pictures, gift and game stations, etc. The passion Joi has for decorating and catering was shown in every detail of her work. I am recommending Taste of Joi to EVERY person that needs catering and decorating services. You won't be disappointed!

Wendy has an eye for detail and a sixth sense for design. What I loved about working with her the most was her ability incorporate what we had while introducing fresh new pieces that made the room come alive and tell a story. She is not a "decorator"- she is an artist and your space is her palate. -Susie

Kalie has helped me with hosting events from philanthropic dinners to amazing spreads at the Queen's Cup Steeplechase! She is amazing at keeping us from trying to do too many things, rather do just a few delicious things for food and simple but elegant and festive decor. She is so creative, and absolutely every event I have attended or hosted with Kalie has been a huge success!

Megan is absolutely an amazing floral designer and cake designer. I told Megan my vision was and she made my dream come true. Her creativity is unmatched and she did exactly what I wanted and more. She created the entire floral arrangement for my reception dinner and she completely decorated the entire room. She also created my bouquet and the groom's boutonnieres. The design was flawless and well put together. Megan also baked and designed my two tier wedding cake. The taste was amazing and the design was simply elegant and beautiful. I was a happy bride and I owe that all to Megan for pulling my vision all together. I will also add, that wedding planning can be stressful and Megan is super patient and understanding she truly has a gift.

Eduardo and his staff were friendly, efficient, and organized. They had a gorgeous set up, and the orchid decorations just enhanced the overall effect. The food was exceptional, and filled a variety of taste palates. People kept going back for more, and commenting on the high-quality food. The Pyrenean Shepherd Club of America had 60 members in attendance, and commented that this was the best banquet they ever had. Thank you to Eduardo and his staff for a wonderful evening.

LOOM hosted a photography class I teach and it's been ideal! The meeting space was flexible and easy to configure, the decor is beautiful and functional, and we easily hosted over 30 people per class. It's really added a professional polish to the class, plus Jennifer and the staff are great to work with. I'd recommend LOOM to anyone looking for flexible meeting or workspace in the Fort Mill and South Charlotte area.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
