I'm Hannah, a passionate and dedicated musician and piano teacher with over 20 years of experience in studying, performing, and composing music at the piano. With 4 years of teaching expertise, I have nurtured the musical talents of students of all ages and skill levels. Remember, it's never too late to start learning! My teaching approach combines classical technique and theory to build strength and dexterity while focusing on the music that resonates with each student. Whether you're into jazz, pop, classical, or any other genre, we can dig into your favorite music while exploring scales and chords, and building a solid technique. Additionally, I have a background in songwriting and composition and we can delve into these subjects during our lessons as well. I studied piano performance at Colorado State University before embarking on a 17-year journey with my band, SHEL. We signed a record deal and toured extensively, performing at prestigious venues like Red Rocks Amphitheater and festivals such as Lyon’s Folk Festival and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. In addition, my compositions have been featured in movies, TV shows, and on Colorado Public Radio. These experiences enrich my teaching, as I draw upon real-world insights to guide students in discovering their musical passions and goals. My online studio is accessible through various platforms like phone, iPad, or laptop. For high-quality sound and video, I utilize FaceTime and Facebook Messenger. Lessons cover technique exercises, music theory, and a tailored repertoire that aligns with the student's musical preferences. Wanting to take piano lessons with Hannah has been one of the best choices I've ever made. Seriously, I can't write out all the ways spending time to learn piano with her has not only improved all areas of my abilities as a musician, but be happier balancing practice and the rest of my anxiety-filled life. As far as a teacher, Hannah is someone that I think anyone could learn something from, whether that is piano or even just being a good ear as the oocassional life coach. Regarding piano specifically, I started taking weekly lessons in 2020 and have since then felt much more comfortable in practice, live performing, and studio recording situations. I had played stringed and concert instruments growing up, but had very little piano experience and Hannah has helped me learn quite a lot about playing piano on a Roli Seaboard which has additional challenges to getting a proper technique. Over a year ago I could barely play basic triads on the seaboard, and now have began to improvise and understand written pieces of music. Hannah had no issues finding ways to teach me a variety of exercises, songs, and music theory. Her piano expertise is mainly in classical piano, but she has been able to help learn techniques and styles of music across multiple genres of piano including blues, jazz, funk, gospel, and even contemporary/modern uses for midi piano workstations. This also includes thinking about how to expand your playing in different situations such as performing music either as an individual or as an ensemble, and the big picture of understanding a song. Overall, every day feels like progress and I've only gotten more excited when I can play and learn more about the instrument. If you listen to any of her music you know Hannah is incredibly talented, but she is also down to earth enough to help others with the very basics of piano technique and have fun doing it. She is very patient and I still can't thank her enough for that. Hannah is very flexible to work with, offering lessons over Zoom (or in Nashville if you live there). I'm sure she can always find a way to help create a space for anyone to learn from and enjoy playing their instruments. There was initially some troubleshooting for using studio gear through Zoom, but she helped me become much more proficient at that as well. Beyond Zoom, Hannah makes some of the most helpful tutorial/practice videos I've ever watched that can be slowed down and she will respond to any questions you have as a student. Lessons started by exploring my interests as a musician and lessons have continuously developed and evolved from those conversations. I am proud to have her as a mentor and I'd recommend at least a couple lessons with Hannah to anyone, anywhere if you are wanting to learn piano. Thank you, Hannah!

Hannah is an amazing teacher! She is incredibly kind, patient, & encouraging through her instruction. My daughter is 7-yrs old, & with Hannah’s experience & expertise, she has been able to learn, not only to play the piano well, (far past my expectations), but has also gained an immense amount of love for playing. As it is w/all things that challenge us, learning to play the piano can be difficult at times, & sometimes my daughter gets frustrated or feels defeated, but Hannah is always so calm & understanding, & always finds a creative way to bring my daughter back to focus & enjoying the lesson once more. She keeps things fun & engaging by integrating my daughter’s favorite songs into their work together, & has just been a true blessing in our lives. My daughter has learned so much already, plays confidently with both hands, & even writes her own music through Hanna’s encouragement. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I can do 15 minute lessons for $20 for beginners who just want to get started, have very specific things they want to learn, or for songwriters and composers who just want some feedback.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
You tell me what you want to learn and what you'd like to be able to do, and I'll come up with a lesson plan to help you get there. You'll need to practice, at least 15 minutes per day. The more you practice, the more I can help you.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied jazz and classical for 10 years, then trained classically in the piano performance program at Colorado State University for 4 years. I moved to Nashville to sign a record deal with my band (SHEL) in 2009, then toured until 2020. Now I teach and write and record in Nashville.
