Crystal did a deep cleaning on a home we just purchased before moving in. The house was in pretty desperate need of cleaning. Crystal spent 18 hours over three days cleaning everything. It was SOOOOOO wonderful to be able to move in and start unpacking and putting dishes in cabinets, etc. without having to clean first. We have had housecleaning services for several years and, while we have been fortunate and had people we were pleased with, Crystal is the creme of the crop! She did such a thorough and impressive job. I would give her more stars if I had that option! Every light fixture, window seal and baseboard was sparkling clean. The house was literally move-in ready when the truck arrived with our belongings. I can't recommend her highly enough. She will not disappoint! In fact, as soon as we sell our other home, we will be having her come on a bi-weekly basis.

Shon Blair did an excellent job cleaning my gutters. My house is 2 stories on the back side, has a very steep roof pitch, and the gutters were completely stopped up with leaves & sticks. Shon worked safely, and was able to do the cleanup work on the same day as he came to quote the job. I thought price was very reasonable. Thanks Shon!

They were friendly and came timely. For price, I was expecting a little more, but in their defense items included in price couldn't be cleaned due to recently paining. They also did not appear to move any furniture when cleaning floors as I had to clean up around kitchen table/bench and children's pop up tent. Other than that the house looked great and smelled clean.

I originally hired CMV Worx to do some tile work for me, the owner, David was a really nice guy and did such a great job that I hired him to do crown molding throughout my house and also paint my living room and dining room. After talking to him he gave me a better price to mow my lawn than I was currently paying. I am very happy and thankful for the job CMV Worx did on my house and the landscaping he continues to do. Very professional and courteous company that I would recommend to anyone needing some work done to their house or just need their yard mowed.

Chad is amazing. I have used him on several jobs, from installing doors, fixing a mess another installer made to completely redoing and finishing a hardwood staircase. He can do it all. I do not hesitate recommending him. In fact I have sent him to take care of several things at my mom's house. Mom has been very pleased every time.

When Mr. Braswell arrived on time for our appraisal appointment, we were very impressed because other contractors had previously let us down or never showed up. After looking over our property, he had a good idea of what we would like our new home exterior to look like. We had a huge job, and he was not the least bit intimidated to jump in with both feet. We did not want our front landscape to look overgrown in 5 years. We wanted a front walk to connect our steps out to the driveway, to have a gentle curve and no straight lines. Other than that, we had no idea of what the walkway material should consist of. He gave us price options for the different materials, with pros and cons of each. He also gave us an idea of labor involved for each type of material and how it would stand up over the years. Mr. Braswell suggested installing a low retaining wall, which would make the walkway stand out against our elevated front porch. He provided us with a layout of where the bushes and trees would be located, along with the walkway and retaining wall. All throughout this process, he was very much in tune to our wants and needs. When he laid out the plan for our landscaping, he told us what the bushes would look like. Some suggestions we did not care for, but he very willingly gave us other options to check out on the internet. We also met him at several nurseries and showrooms to make the final choices of shrubs, trees and pavers. All throughout the landscaping process, Mr. Braswell involved us with all required decisions, including cost changes when necessary. We are extremely pleased with the outcome of our landscape and we will hire Brad again in the future if the need arises. He is a very honest, hard-working man and we do not hesitate giving him our highest recommendation.

It was a great experience all the way around. Cody was very fair in his price and went beyond trying to get my roof clean. My stupid pine trees made that impossible. But they tried! Very happy with my clean house and my driveway is great again. Thanks Cody.

The roofers arrived in mass and worked 14 hours and back the next day to finish. They cleaned up at the end of each day. Their work was very good and they all had great work ethics. The gutter people worked across 4 days and also did very good work. My house looks totally different after the architectural shingles and the 6" gutters with rolled screens. I would use them again.

Hired Robin's Residential Cleaning Services to clean our home initially for a one time cleaning, I'd gotten their name from a from a friend at church. They arrived on time and did a good job. Example of what I mean- We had a few pulls in the master bedroom carpet, one of those things that I was going to get to with a pair of scissors one day. I walked into bedroom and they were vacuuming and one of them had gone around and cut them down. Sure made the floor look better. Robin and her crew now clean my house every other week, my office and my sons condo. They are good people.

I hired these young men to rebuild a deck on the back of my house. They demolished the existing deck and drew up plans for a custom deck/patio that would access both sets of french doors on the back of my house. I love it. They were clean with the demolition of the old deck and hauled everything away, never leaving a mess for me to look at overnight. They were here every day, on time. Very respectful. Very on fire for God. They listened to my concerns and worked with me. I really appreciate that being a single lady living alone. They told me that If I found anything I was dissatisfied with to call and they would fix it immediately. I just really enjoyed employing these young men of God.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why is it important to clean your gutters?

Rain gutters, those easily-forgotten trenches that hang off the edge of your roof, protect your roof, walls and foundation from excess rainwater. When they get clogged with leaves, sticks and other wind-blown debris, they can no longer direct water away from your walls and foundation, and may become homes for pests and insects. They also become heavy enough to pull away from the house, preventing proper rainwater drainage and spoiling the appearance of your home. Experts recommend inspecting and cleaning your gutters twice a year, once in spring and once in fall, as part of your regular landscaping schedule. Gutter cleaning and maintenance is a fairly easy DIY job for some homeowners, especially on one-story homes. However, professional gutter cleaners have ladders tall enough to safely reach rain gutters, as well as the necessary tools to clean out the downspouts. Most gutter cleaning professionals can also make any necessary quick repairs.

Why do I need to clean my roof?

Over time, algae, moss, lichen, dirt and even salt (if you’re near the ocean) can build up on your roof. These buildups can affect the look and function of your roof unless removed. The buildup of organic materials such as moss on a shingle roof can prevent water from sloughing off as it normally would. Trapped water can rot the roof or cause early deterioration of your shingles. Even if you don’t have a shingle roof, moss and lichen absorb water, and that wet material adds weight and stress to your roof — as well as providing a home for insects and other pests, and collecting dirt. For reflective, cool roofs that redirect heat away from the home, algae and moss growths can hamper their ability to deflect the sun, which can affect utility bills. Visually, moss, dirt and algae growths on a roof can have a negative effect on perceived home value and curb appeal. For example, black algae streaks on your roof may cause a potential homebuyer to assume that the roof might need repair or replacement, when it only needs to be cleaned.

      Can a roof be cleaned?

Yes roofs can be cleaned, and yes, it’s a real thing. Roof cleaning may actually be a wise investment to prolong the life of your roof. Overgrowth of moss, grime, lichen or algae can all shorten the life of your roof. If you have black streaks growing on your roof, they are likely caused by gloeocapsa magma algae spores that have landed on your roof and taken up residence. Once the algae has grown into streaks, the organism has usually been growing for several months and it’s high time to have it removed. If you live in a rainy part of the country, such as the Pacific Northwest, there’s a good chance you’ll find moss growing on your roof at some point. The northern part of your roof, as well as any parts that remain shaded all day, will provide a wet, cool haven for moss to flourish. Unfortunately this water-absorbing moss can damage your shingle roof, leading to rot if not removed. Beyond roof health and function, a clean roof can boost your curb appeal and potentially boost your home’s resale value. The national average for roof cleaning costs ranges between $270 and $350, although prices can be higher depending on how large your roof is, how steep your roof is, and what type of cleaning is necessary. Typically pros use either a pressure wash or chemical wash (made with a concentrated bleach solution) to remove algae, lichen, moss and dirt.

What chemicals are used to clean roofs?

Roof cleaning is done to remove moss, lichen, algae, and buildup of other grime and dirt. There are several methods for roof cleaning, which can include a chemical soft wash, pressure washing, low-pressure washing and hand washing. When a chemical soft wash is used, a bleach mixture is sprayed onto the roof. The bleach-based solution is absorbed by the algae or moss, which dies from exposure to the chemical. The roof is then sprayed with a low-pressure rinse of water, which loosens the now-dead material, allowing it to slide off the roof.

For homeowners, the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association recommends a mixture of 50 percent laundry-strength liquid chlorine bleach and 50 percent water. Professional roof cleaning companies will use an industrial mixture that is still safe but may be more effective in eliminating algae and moss growths. Asphalt shingle roofs are the most common type of roof, but each roofing material will have its own cleaning needs, so it’s best to consult with your roofing pro before diving in. Don’t do it yourself unless you can safely navigate your roof, the chemicals and a sprayer system. When in doubt, leave it to the pros.

How much does it cost to clean a roof?

The national average for roof cleaning costs ranges between $270 and $350. Factors that can affect the cost to clean your roof are the height of your house, the size and pitch (steepness) of your roof, and the complexity of your roof’s design and accessibility. Geographic location also plays a role in roof cleaning costs as regional labor rates and area costs to do business will vary. There are several ways to clean a roof. The most common is pressure washing. Industrial pressure washers can spray over 3,000 pounds per square inch (psi) of water — which is much too powerful for roof cleaning, and may tear off shingles and damage your roof. Confirm that the roof-cleaning pro you choose will only use a low-pressure sprayer to protect your roof investment. For large algae or moss growths, pros often recommend a combination of low-pressure washing with a bleach-based chemical solution. This is referred to soft washing and should handily remove any growths taking over your roof.
